Aviation High School (In SEA)

Thu Feb 01, 2007 4:41 am

Has anyone heard about this high school? Seems interesting to me. Alot of AS/QX employees have their kids enrolled there. Its a part of the Highline School District in Seattle, I believe. Here is the link to their website:

I haven't heard of it, but it's definitely something worth looking into for my kids when they get older.

It's a relatively new thing. I heard on King5 News about a year ago.

That's pretty cool. The kids probably have an advantage if they want to pursue an aviation career. I think it's good that High Schools have some specific education pertaining to the student's career choice after High School as opposed to mostly general ed. classes.

Well, at my high school, they (the taxpayers, it was a public school) payed for the flight training for my PPL. Doesn't look like this school does that. Too bad.  Wink

I heard a rumor that my former school may be switching to LSA training in a few years to save money instead of paying for students' PPL's.
I love ASO!

The one disadvantage of the school is that its not mandiated by the FAA, so its not a 14 CFR 147 school. It probably never will. No certificates can be given out as a result of that. But the idea of having an aviation related high school does help alot though.

I first heard the existence of this school after the unfortunate loss of two students in a crash back in October 2005. I recall reading a thread on it here in A.net after the accident. Time truly flies... Sad

Davis Aerospace Technical High School in Detroit, MI has been around since the 1940s as part of the Detroit Public Schools. It used to offer flight training, but I believe it only offers training in A &P mechanics these days.

The idea isn't new, apparently. Sure wish I could have attended one of these schools!
