Last night I was on JetBlue Flight 1224, from Raleigh to Boston. It was N265JB ('Blue Streak'). I found no pictures of it here on airliners.net and was curious as to how 'new' the plane was. On Tuesday I flew BOS-RDU on N183JB, which I guess is the first-ever E190 that JetBlue took.
As a user of MHT, I noted as many times as I could to the crew how much we'd like to see JetBlue there. They'd always laugh and tell me they've heard it all before. I told them they ought not be afraid of butting heads with Southwest. First, because they do so already at several cities. And second, they have marvelous service differentiation with the snacks and the live TV.

You have no idea how often we hear people tell us they wish we flew into MHT. Maybe someday we will but I don't see it happening in the near future. MHT is a common one along with PVD.

What airports & markets are currently served by both WN & B6?
In my experience, Southwest tends to offer more choices and better schedules in their markets, by JetBlue has a better product once you're on the plane.

I think going into MHT would be a very good idea for JetBlue. They could have a strategy sort of like NYC - go into neighboring airports rather than just the focus operation and look to capture the whole market instead of just a piece of it. WN may be a very good airline but they are no longer hedged at such low prices and B6 has some brand name recognition in New England as well.

I agree that JetBlue would do well at MHT. But the thing probably keeping them away is Portland, Maine...an admittedly 'fragile' market that would be potentially sobotaged by MHT. PWM is very seasonal, so from Labor Day through the winter to Memorial Day I'm not sure how well they do. I think if not for PWM, B6 might well be at MHT. Only conjecture on my part, though.
I hope we see them here, because my first impression was extremely favorable.

No doubt flights down to JFK would do well. But LGB? I highly doubt B6 would start that route out of MHT given that B6 has other large stations without LGB service. First things first, lets wait until WN starts up a PHX flight.

Exactly.
JetBlue has invested in Portland, and they have a major base of operations in Boston. Adding MHT to their destinations list would only serve to detract from these two established destinations.
MHT thrives as an alternative to Boston (with Southwest at least), and it also pulls a number of Maine residents in with its low fares. If JetBlue were to open up Manchester it would first of all not get the Boston metro passengers, as people will most likely choose the direct flights and potentially lower fares at Logan. Second, they would possibly spoil the market they're trying to open up at PWM, encouraging the continuance of the trend to head to MHT instead of Portland...
MHT may work great for Southwest...I just don't see it working well with Jetblue, or any other LCC that operates at Logan already.

MHT is too close to BOS to have an effective route ops. i do agree MHT would have good business, but i dont think B6 will go there....
on a side note, i will always refer to MHT has MANCHESTER AIRPORT, not the MANCHESTER/BOSTON REGIONAL AIRPORT crap they voted on a while ago..no offense intended

Since we are asking questions about JetBlues e190's i figured that i would ask one also! I have flown the e190 several time from BOS-NYC and last week from BOS to MYNN (Nassau). First off i would like to state that i find the aircraft very comfortable and much more comfortable that the A320! I simply love it.
Having flown it many time i have taken note of what seems to me as the plane not being 100% stable during approach and landing. Can anyone comment? Many planes that i have flown on feel as if the glide down to the runway. On the e-190 the approach always seems to be bumpmy and there seems to be a series of spooling up the engines followed by idling the egines and spooling them up again. On my landing a few night ago this occured for the last twenty minutes of the flight. The weather was clear with very light winds-it felt as if the plan kept on jerking side to side at a very quick rate. Could this have been the result of the final being done at what i thought was a low sppeed of 115-120? (according to the TV)
Anyone comment about this on the e-190!

As a matter of facts, the 1st 190 we took delivery of was N178JB which was the prototype for the E-190. Propilot, can you confirm that?

Incorrect.... N178JB is s/n 190.0004. It is the 4th aircraft.. and the 3rd flying commercial.

Whaaaat? BOS is a very nice airport, as ive had my fair share of them. Terminal E and customs are some of the best on the east coast. they've put a lot of work into BOS, and its paid off. just out of curiosity, when was the last time you were there and what terminal? im just curios...

Terminal C still needs a lot of work (I know all the others have been remodeled recently and A is brand new), that new road way system they put in was designed by an idiot. For anyone who has parked in the long term/economy lots at BOS will tell you that it seems like Massport (A very corrupt organization I might add) doesn't want you parking there.
And the last time I was there was...oh lets see...Jan, 6, 2007 was my departure, and I returned on Jan, 14, 2007, so less then a month ago. (TR coming btw)

There are numerous factors that go into making an airport 'nice' (or not): ease of navigating the roadways; the ease of parking; the cost of parking; the baggage claim system; the terminals themselves, etc. Clearly, MHT wins several and probably loses some. Roll them all into a big ball, and you get the 'hassle factor' that MHT probably does better on than Logan.
As for 'butting heads' with Southwest, I was referring to JetBlue's reluctance to even come to MHT because of the domination by Southwest. If the two carriers fly to different cities from MHT, then they certainly could co-exist. But I firmly believe that PWM and BOS are the reasons why JetBlue isn't at MHT. One way to prevent the leakage out of PWM would be to have the exact same mix of flights and prices at MHT and PWM. No one for whom PWM is more convenient would ever come to MHT, thus protecting their investment there.
Back to my original point, I really like JetBlue and their E190s. It seems to be the perfect 'tweener' aircraft...smaller than a 737 with 100 seats but larger than the 'lawn darts' we've grown to hate. Kudos to JetBlue for what appears to be a great choice in aircraft.

Checking the B6 Route Map, while noting all the wishes for their entry into MHT on this thread, I notice an awful lot of little blue dots up in that itty-bitty part of the country. At the same time, I see a huge glob of the middle of that same country with NO little blue dots at all.
Conclusion: let's give someone else a chance! I'm still not a big fan of Blue's current expansion moves (too many new cities too close to existing stations) so I would encourage them to start connecting the West and the East with some middle-ground. Enough with the Northeast already! (Better watch out B6, XE and FL are setting up shop in the Mid-west right in front of your eyes.)

As much as I now like JetBlue, I agree. Let JetBlue focus on parts of the country where they aren't as focused. In return, let's get one of those carriers from the midwest or west that's focused 'out there' and have them (finally) come east. I'd trade a JetBlue for a Frontier.

I think some airline (B6, WN, or even a legacy) need to get MHT a flight to the Pacific ocean. Let it be SFO or LAX by United, or LAX by WN, or LGB by B6. Right now I believe the longest flight west is a once daily LAS on America West.

I disagree about jetBlue over-expanding in the Northeast. This is part of the renewed strategy to return to proitability-- to concentrate on the region where they first set up shop. The midwest has been coming on line slowly, with the additions of Chicago and Columbus. Both Northeast and Midwest expansion is happening at the airline, just at unequal growth rates. This, I think, is a smart idea, as the jetBlue name is much more well known in HPN than it is in SDF.

Maybe because they are a northeast based airline and that is the market they want to go after......????? It was not all that long ago Southwest ONLY flew within Texas....!!! Just take a look at the Southwest route map from the mid 1980's....and look at it now.

Right city, wrong airline. Southwest plies the MHT-LAS route, and it is a huge success with only 137 daily seats each way (one RT circuit).
While I mentioned that MHT might cannibalize PWM, I guess if both stations had mirrored service that wouldn't necessarily be the case. It's when one station gets something different, or is priced differently, that cannibalization of a nearby airport occurs. That's why Delta has pulled share from MHT back to Boston.
I understand that B6 at MHT is a longshot, but I certainly think they could make it work. I also agree that there are many other spots in the continental U.S. also deserving of jetBlue...cities which don't already have the carrier at two nearby airports.
I do like the jetBlue business model, though. Differentiation is where it's at. Having ample chances to use Southwest up here in Manchester, I can see the superiority in service that jetBlue offers. Is it enough to get me to trek down to Boston just to use them? Short answer...No. While live TV and blue chips are nice, a simple, short, hassle-free experience at MHT beats dealing with Logan by a mile.

Yeah, I got it EMBQA - thanks. It was that lack of punctuation - you know that silly thing called a Question Mark - one of these ? that threw me off . . . most questions, at least in the English language tend to have one of those.
