Is this attempting to head off a similar route by CityStar? Heard through the grapevine that it was up for consideration with them as well.

BD and bmi regional have done quite well with new routes this year.

LHR-JER (which replaces LHR-CDG)
EDI-ZRH
ABZ-KRS
ABZ-BRU
LBA-CPH (which replaces LBA-CDG)

Have I missed any? Are there any other than the CDG routes that are facing the axe this year?
Next flights: LGW-LBA-LGW, LHR-SIN-SYD, SYD-BKK-LHR, LGW-GRO, GRO-CIA, CIA-MAD, MAD-LGW

Certainly better than last years attempt with SOU-AMS. I think they were looking to make SOU a new base IIRC as they were advertising for cabin crew etc but it has all gone quiet. An even larger BE presence at SOU would certainly make life difficult for them, although if they could offer some routes with longhaul connections (i.e. ZRH, FRA, MUC, LIS, CPH) they might stand some chance.

CPH does not directly replace CDG.

EDI is geting a new based aircraft to cover Zurich, an extra MAN flight and replace an LBA aircraft on one LBA-EDI flight. The LBA aircraft will then do LBA-CPH instead. However, with CDG going (which took up one aircraft) bmi regional will have 1 less based aircraft at LBA this summer. But there is the bmi mainline aircraft coming for the charters

Is it confirmed yet if SWISS will codeshare on EDI-ZRH - would certainly help towards it being a successful route

Gkirk,

I flew this route in 2004 (I think?) with Duo shortly before they folded. There were 7 of us on the flight and if I recall correctly, my flight was booked at about 3 days notice for about GBP 60 single inclusive. I was impressed that Duo served proper crockery and a good breakfast, though.

I don't contest, that with proper promotion and marketing, that this route could work. However, I have little confidence that BD management know what they are doing, period. [Apologies for using an Americanism here  wink ].

Would like to be proven wrong as I spent four years in N Switzerland and I am not really Chinese.....

Cheers

I think there will be a strong chance of this seen as SWISS don't serve directly Scotland.

BD have the advantage of *Alliance though. If they do codeshare then passengers who live in sweden and use SWISS a lot will proberly go on the SWISS website first and see edinburgh as a destination and bingo, theres a new passenger for bmi.

BMED,

I see your points, especially regarding the alliance. Personally I see no evidence of, nor envisage a codeshare with LX.

In no way do I wish these flights to fail.

Time will tell.

BTW, why fly Sweden to Switzerland to Scotland when there are flights Sweden to England (MAN, LHR) to Scotland with better frequencies?  wink .

Cheers
