EWR: 1st Daily Flight Out?

Thu Mar 01, 2007 7:31 am

Who has the distinction of flying the first flight out of EWR each day? Is it always the same flight number and carrier? I am usually awakened around 4:00AM. I want to get in touch with the pilots and tell them to fly a bit lower and more Easterly, because, the way it is right now, they are only wakeing up half the neighborhood. I want to get everybody.

I know that CO has a flight to IAH that departs at 5:30 AM, and I think that's the earliest commercial flight out of EWR. I'm going to guess that the flight you're hearing at 4:00 AM is probably a UPS or FedEx cargo flight.

Probably cargo, or really delayed flights (I've left ATL at 230am before)

Looking at Flightaware there are only cargo flights such as Fedex during the night. The first commercial flight appears to be CO611 to Houston at 0546

Between 4.00 and 4.30 there were 6 Fedex flights

I have been on that CO flight at 546 on a sunday morning a couple of times and was surprised to see how full it was each time.

Thanks to all for the info. It is not the CO flight, that I am sure of if the above information is correct. If it is Fed-Ex, are they meeting the appropriate noise standards? The noise I hear is "loud".

Now that I am back in the U.S.A.! I can use www.Flightaware.com which is very cool. There is around a 5-8 minute delay.

Where I now live in Central Colorado, we get a lot of transcontinental traffic right over our heads. E/W, NE/SW, SE/NW, and even international stuff usually bound for LAX or DFW/IAH. When its not snowing (like today!) the sky is covered with trails. Before I left for Italy, I counted 22 trails one summer day.

I have come up with a rule of thumb, if I can hear it, 9.9 times out 10, it is a 722, or 72Q. And that is even with them flying at 33,000 to 36,000 feet...granted, we need to deduct 6,000 feet from that according to my elevation, so it is really like 27,000 feet, but they are still very noticeable.
Next in line are the second generation 733/734/735 and MD8Xs, and almost never A32X or 737/738/739. Sometimes I can hear a 747 heading to LAX, or an MD-11 heading to Asia from Memphis....
I have tried a telescope for positive identification....but they move too fast. Binoculars actually work better.

MEM= You ever looked at flightaware at 2am local for Memphis. There are well over 100 FedEx flights inbound.

And city with some cargo operations is 24/7.

CA has curfews at numerous commercial airports, including SAN, SNA, BUR, LGB, SJC.

All had curfews established prior to the adoption of the Airport Noise and Capacity Act of 1990. Since the passage of that federal legislation, it has become virtually impossible to establish a curfew at a public airport. While there is officially a process (e.g., Part 150, Part 161 studies) that can be used to establish a curfew, to date the FAA has not approved the establishment of a new curfew.

In general, the ANCA act traded of acceleration to Stage III aircraft and in exchange, restricted curfews to existing ones. I believe a Senator from TN wanted to protect FedEx operations.

We have a lot of connecting traffic to Central and South America on that flight. Spanish is a huge benefit on that flight.

Fly low. Fly fast.

MEM is the worlds busiest airport between midnight and 6am. Most airports are technically 24/7 with "voluntary curfews." At TEB we have a voluntary curfew from 2300-0700, violation of this "voluntary curfew" results in a computer generated letter (GASP!), so beware if you ever plan on coming in to TEB late at night. (obviously sarcastic)

fed ex starts leaving around 0330 and finish about 05-0530 usair has a clt leave about 0500 certain times of the year and COA611 is scheduled out however it is rarely pushes when it is supposed to. Next would be Air tran, delta , usa 3000 and Northwest to leave with a UAL in there also. You are probably hearing one of the 6 fed ex 727 that leave, on departue they climb like pigs. ABX-DHL also flys old schod dc'8s and they have a dc 9 that goes to ILN.

FedEx has at several 722's departing EWR right around 0400- probably what you're hearing.

Newark 7 and/or Mariner 2 departures put EWR departures on a 060 heading off the 4's right over parts of Jersey City.
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.
