Although it's not daily, it doesn't appear to be only seasonal! That route sure came out of the blue.

SEA is having quite a 2007 so far; somebody's doing a good of selling SEA/TAC these days!

Perhaps the FL flights between SEA and ATL will become year-round.

It will be interesting to see how WN responds. FL is trying to jump into markets before WN does.

I doubt WN will respond to BWI-SEA; they have little interest in growing SEA due to the high fees at the airport.

BWI/SEA is the largest unserved domestic O&D. SEASONAL service between BWI/DFW?? Right Silly.

I guess only time will tell on this one. AirTran may be planning on going year-round with SEA on the BWI run. It shows that it's scheduled all the way through the end of October, which is the end of when AirTran is selling tickets for. For example, DAB-ATL is seasonal, but the DAB-BWI flight is scheduled all the way out through the summer.
Good goes around!

As is generally the case Scott, I agree with you 100%; in addition, I would be surprised to see WN expand transcon service much anywhere, as was very recently addressed in the "WN @ SFO To Be Significantly Larger Than Before" thread.

Although the PR didn't specify, I will take your word for it MAH'.

In any case, it's shaping up as a very good summer for SEA aviationists!

GO SEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think this flight would work year round as BWI is the largest O&D market out of SEA unserved.

I agree. I could see the ATL flight staying seasonal and BWI going year-round, so that SEA still has the option of connecting into the AirTran system during the off-season, while they can also take advantage of the O&D traffic.
Good goes around!

I could see this going year-round, but time will tell.

What a month for SEA...MKE, BWI and CDG all jumping on the n/s list. Go us.
Picked a hell of a week to quit sniffing glue.

I've been speculating for almost a year now that we would hear IND-BWI. I expect this route is now sooner then later with the BWI buildup going on.

The return of seasonal service between DFW-BWI, the most they ever had on the route was 2 and now they are going to 3. I always thought if they ever wanted anything to work out of DFW they would have to have more freq. I'm thinking they are trying a little to late though. Gald to see more service by AirTran in DFW.

There's a typo in the release, there are only two DFW-BWI flights.

This flight is actually from DFW to BWI, not the other way around as it shows in the release:
Baltimore/Washington** Dallas/Fort Worth 324 7:40 a.m. 11:40 a.m. Daily

**Service begins May 8.

FL either needs to fire their PR people or at least REREAD because they had a typo in the PWM release too...this is two for two.

I think it will also be interesting to see whether and how AS responds here, as they charge exorbitant rates DCA and IAD to SEA, when compared with SFO or LAX (even their own flight DCA-LAX). My true hope is that this will lower AS's fares so I can take them more.. Or maybe they'd start their own BWI-SEA. One note though, with less-than-daily weekday service Airtran is not courting many business travelers.

AS no longer serves IAD - hasn't for the past year or so.

With respect to DCA, it realizes higher yields due to its location. Business and government pax will pay a premium for the convenience over IAD/BWI if the option is available. DCA is also slot restricted, and any flights west of Denver require special authority. That's why AS has a huge competitive advantage here in that they're the only ones flying from DCA to LAX or SEA nonstop.

The flights do very well. AS won't be cutting prices anytime soon. And you can bet service to BWI will have absolutely no effect on AS's DCA flights. UA at IAD might see a little more pressure, but it's still going to be the lower yield pax that aren't their bread and butter anyhow.

The biggest loser will be WN, given that they're so big at BWI.

As was mentioned, AS doesn't even fly to IAD and hasn't for a while now. In as far as "exorbitant" fares go, I hardly think $140 one way is "exorbitant". You can find it that low in Coach, while First Class is right around $650 one way. Again, hardly "exorbitant". If you can point out to me where you can find a First Class fare from LAX/SFO any lower than that, please do. In fact, I would be willing to bet you couldn't find coach fares a lot lower than that to DCA.
