What Is This Irritating Thing (Indentify This A/C)?

Today i heard something buzzing like a loud bee over my house.. and i see this lil dinky thing... what is it? and what is it used for? Its definately an Indian Airforce craft... what int he world do they do with it?

It's probably used for Flight Training. It looks like an ordinary ultralight.

Also it is not an Indian Registered Aircraft, the G registration [Golf] is from UK

Experimental aircraft use the G- numeric , is there an Indian air force base near you as it may be a demonstrator ???

It's a Streak Shadow, used for bird control/bird strike prevention.

It is an indian airforce plane... as rightly pointed out... reg's from the uk are Golf followed by alphabets and NOT numbers. If you look at other pics of the IAF planes... they have similar regs.

Reminds me of everytime I see - er, hear - other pusher-prop planes fly overhead. The Piaggio P-180 Avanti is one of the easiest planes to recognize. The aircraft looks neat on the ground, but that is one L-O-U-D airplane!

If it is a military registration, does India use UAVs? Maybe its for those pilots to get the feel down and add a little flight time under their wings. Just a thought.

Yes we do use UAV's.

The G registration followed by numbers is because of the fact that it is an ultra-light.
Here in the netherlands we normaly have PH-XXX, but for gliders, ultra-lights, micro-lights etc.... its PH-999 (with 3 of even 4 digits after the PH-).
I think its to keep the "normal" registration exclusively to general aviation all the way up to commercial.

Sorta off topic, but you're right. There's a company sells shares in them at PIE..you KNOW when one's in the area....

I am aware of that.. waw simply asnwering the question whether we have UAV's in India or not. I could clearly see the pilot in these pic after i took them.

What airport are you near? As 2H4 has said it is used for bird strike prevention. I know Mumbai has always had a bird problem and I thought I'd heard about others there. If it's irratating to you it's hopefully bothersome to the vultures and others that can ruin the day for pilots and planes.

Good to see that the Indian Air Force maintain a serious frontline air wing in this era of global terrorism! Wink

You can imagine a "Simpsons" like interception (remember the Wright Brothers plane being intercepted by F-14s in the Airshow episode) - Pakistani fighters approaching fast from six o'clock, only to cruise straight on past whilst saying "wtf?" Wink

Hey:
Strangely enough the closest internation airport to me is about 50 miles away, i live in chandigarh (IXC) which is primarily an airforce base. I think they are using these for the Presidents Air fleet Review which is tomorrow.... infact its the biggest show our air force has.. and its being held after a long 31 years.. so other than this thing buzzing around over my house i have SU-30 MKI's roaring past too!

Infact the other day we had an interesting articl ein the newspaper tell residents to make sure their trash bins are covered so that birds dont get attracted and fly around! lol
