Final Call, LAX Meet 19th March

Sun Mar 18, 2007 11:49 pm

I hope everyone has a great time, however want to caution people about the lack of likely parking and traffic restrictions on the North side of the airport. Some road closures will take effect Sunday evening.

I would not count on much of anything being available at or near the little island that In-n-Out is located at.

From the LAWA press release;
The recommended viewing site, Northside Parkway, is adjacent to the airport's north airfield perimeter fence and can be accessed by walking westbound along Westchester Parkway for approximately 1.25 miles west of Sepulveda Blvd. The entire distance of Northside Parkway (from McConnell Avenue on the east to Loyola Blvd. on the west) will be closed beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2007. Spectators should arrive at Northside Parkway after 5 a.m. on Monday, March 19.

The public is advised to use public transportation to Westchester, a Los Angeles community north of the airport, or park in public parking lots such as LAX Economy Parking Lot C at 96th Street and Sepulveda Blvd. Several privately-operated public parking facilities are also located in Westchester along Sepulveda Blvd. and Century Blvd. No stopping or parking will be allowed on Lincoln Blvd., a major thoroughfare on the north side of the airport.

It is anticipated that there may be traffic congestion which may result in intermittent street closures around the area. Therefore, the public is encouraged to use public transportation and arrive early.

http://www.lawa.org/lax/newsDisplay.cfm?newsID=903

The visit is projected to be the biggest public event at LAX since the 1974 visit of the Concorde which brought out tens of thousands of folks, and caused traffic bottle necks around the airport.

Good to see another SANophile will be there with me!  Smile

As I wrote in the older thread, I will be arriving at 7 am at the LATEST in order to get some decent parking... either that, or I'll see if my aunt can get up that early and drop me off. Either way, I'll be there pretty early.

Looks to be a great time. This is one aircraft I will NEVER see at PIT. Have fun guys. I want to see some awesome pics and vids!

Ok to answer some questions, The A380 will park in the Flight Path Learning Center in the LAX Imperial Terminal at 6661 West Imperial Highway after its landing on 24R, i have no idea what time its leaving SYD but there is something planned for its departure, and the A380 will depart LAX on the 20th at 7:15-7:30pm on 25R. For everyone that is interested in the A380 will move from the Flight Path to Tom Bradley International at 2:00pm on the 19th

You might have to downgrade me to a maybe. I have put in a listing for non-reveving on HP102 that arrives at 0805, but that flight is very close to full so I'm not sure how likely it is I'm gonna get a seat. But I still want to come, I just hope I can make it.

I don' think Sam or anyone else will be flying chase on Monday. Here is the forcast:

Forecast period: 1000 to 2100 UTC 19 March 2007
Forecast type: FROM: standard forecast or significant change
Winds: variable direction winds at 3 MPH (3 knots; 1.6 m/s)
Visibility: 4 miles (6 km)
Ceiling: 1200 feet AGL
Clouds: overcast cloud deck at 1200 feet AGL
Weather: BR (mist)

Not very favorable conditions for VFR flying especially around KLAX.

BTW, the weather was also poor back in 1974 when I was there for the first arrival of the Concorde which landed on the South Complex.

Crap... I hope the weather isn't so horrible that it affects the quality of my pics... and based on what I'm hearing, looks I should get there a lot earlier than 7!

Ugh, I probably won't be able to GET there until 8:30 at the earliest! I'm thinking the 96th st garage will probably be my best bet for parking. Is anyone planning to park elsewhere?

Well all, the hour is almost here. I just want to thank everyone for the input and info the past 3 weeks. I can't wait to see you all tomorrow morning. I'm planning on a very early morning so I am going to try to catch some shut-eye in hopes of actually sleeping and not staying up due to excitement. haha! Here's to great spotting and hopefully good weather (although I've been around LAX the past two mornings and it hasn't been very good.) But that's another story. Tomorrow, we welcome the Beast to the west coast!

ONT

P.S. I'll be wearing jeans, red shirt, white thermal, and a red and white Taylor Made golf hat for anyone that gets there early.
Doin' just fine thanks...

I will be there. I will be driving up from San Diego, so I will be leaving VERY early to beat traffic. The weather will make things interesting. It hasn't been very good over the past week. Anyway, see y'all there!

Where they will sit until the normal queue catches up. It was already mentioned by a screener that photos of the A380 LAX visit tomorrow will not qualify for priority screening.  Wink
