New A320 Cabin Interior Introduced On Niki

Fri Mar 23, 2007 7:40 pm

John Leahy, COO Customers for Airbus, added: “non-stop innovation, this is what the new cabin is all about. We have delivered on all fronts, space, quietness, light, to give NIKI and future A320 Family passengers an even better product. And we are proud that NIKI, Airline of the Year 2005 proves us right with their selection of the A319. Just this little bit more passenger comfort will add to the A320 Family’s leading edge reputation, and make passengers come back for more. “

The new cabin delivered to NIKI effectively features the most modern design and technological innovations, derived from the A380. New smooth lines not only create an ambient atmosphere but also give more space at shoulder level. Increased Overhead Stowage offers 15 per cent more volume. The state of the art design gives a measurable noise reduction, while also decreasing the weight of the aircraft and thus making it more fuel efficient and environmentally friendly.

Available from now on, the next new cabin will be delivered on the A320 to Vueling.

With the widest cabin in its class no matter whether with new or conventional cabin design, the A320 Family offers passengers more space, comfort and overhead stowage volume for their money.

I think the bigger significantly luggage bins will find appreciation.

A better picture of the NIKI cabin, couldn´t find a photo

That is the 320E v 0.3 isn't it?  Wink

From Airbus aims to thwart Boeing's narrowbody plans with upgraded 'A320 Enhanced'

Quote:
The improved single-aisle family will incorporate an aerodynamic tidy-up, engine improvements, weight savings, a new cabin and possibly new large winglets

After dropping the Winglets (unless Airbus turns to Boeing partner Aviation Partners for A320 Enhanced winglets... comes true) . That means they have 1/3 of the 320E isn't it?

Any news about the other bids that are missing?

About the cabin, the same article it says:

Quote:
Airbus has also developed a new interior, which will incorporate new architecture and is 50kg (110lb) lighter, and will be available from mid-2007 on new aircraft and for retrofit.

I know that the target is passenger's comfort, but will those 50kg really make any difference ?

Cheers

Never heard of NIKI before. Cabin looks nice, but frankly, all modern narrowbody cabins are much the same at this point (big bins, better light, etc.) so I'm more excited about the potential cabins in the A380 than in any A320 or 737.

In this day and age, all weight you can shave off an aircraft is good.
Helps fuel burn, and allows you to potentially load more revenue making cargo.

Bearing in mind the high utilisation of single aisle aircraft, it has a measurable impact at the end of the financial year...

The interior looks nice but I fail to see how this is any kind of really significant change from the current A32X interior... perhaps an incremental improvement, but not a leap forward. It seems to me just like slightly enlarged bins, new plastic trim, and brighter lights... all of a sudden everyone needs these insanely bright lights...

I think it is interesting it seems the enhancements don´t come all combined in a new version but at the moment they have been developed and ordered. Numerous improvements have been made to the A320 during the last 15 yrs.

Maybe winglets will come in 2009, wing body fairings in 2010 and improved engines in 2011. Optional so you don´t have to buy them but new operators will always be offered the best available.

Wow...that cabin looks great. Those seats look even wider than in previous A320s...is this because the sidewalls are flat now? Great job Airbus...

Very true. Anyone getting an A320 today is getting a much improved plane in terms of pax comfort versus one they would have received in 1990.

I was gonna say the same thing.......the seats look rather ""hi-tech"" (and uncomfortable as hell) but those are an airline specific item; the rest of the the interior just seems very white and brightly lit but not really updated...maybe its the pics?

Do their FA's still dress up in aluminum foil and saddle shoes with matching bowling ball bags?

Doesn't look radically different, but the cabin is definitely an improvement! Now, if current A32x interiors are upgraded, then this will be a very nice change!

What will happen to the A320E once Boeing EIS's the 737RS in early 2013?

The cabin improvement is very nice!

Out of interest, does anyone know if this improved A32X family features the FBW rudder like newer A330, A340s?

looks nice, but I can't tell if they "found" the shoulder room by moving the seats away from the wall or if they actually changed the walls to make them thinner.

certainly the aisle is kinda narrow like that.

The new ceiling panels look great ! There is less shadowed area.

Wow ! Reading that, I thought "What for ?". The A320 bins are already some of the biggest ones, if not the biggest ones. I could almost lie there... and I'm 1m88, mind you.

Qantas quote : "1kg = US$6,000/year". That gives the picture.

IIRC, they 'curved' the sidewall panels more next to the skin between the frames, freeing up some volume for the cabin.

Boeing should add mood lighting to te 737 aswell as other things to fight back. Since it has a narrower cabin the need to find other things to add to the comfort level.

Features such as mood lighting is customer specific. If WN wanted mood lighting in their 737s, they could start putting the features into their planes tomorrow. Although that scenario is very unlikely.

Does this new cabin introduce LEDs? I believe Airbus were intending to introduce the A318/A380 LEDs across the entire A32X range.
