I would like to ask a fist question for this thread!
When exactly will copa become associate member of SkyTeam?
for the moment they are not even a Flying Blue partner but I suggest they will once they become paasociated to Sky Team. It would be good if it was before December so that I can claim miles for my COPA flight from PTY to SJO !

I know that we discussed the issues with a low cost carrier on Central America but after paying nearly 1,000 USD for PTY-MEX-PTY I am sure there is room for one. Yes the planes were full both ways and I had to buy it on the last minute but yikes, that was too much for me  Sad

Those USD1000 PTY-MEX-PTY fares passengers are the ones CM is looking for. CM goes mainly after the Business traveler not the Leisure or VFR traffic.
TA, AV, CO and AA all offer PTY-MEX-PTY too, the passenger had choices, hadn't chosen to travel non-stop.

IMHO, No matter how open the skies could be, It's going to be highly unlikely to see a LCC in Centralamerica in the near future; but what I could see CM doing is to set-up a night-hub operation ("Night Owl Airlines", as someone mentioned on these forums sometime ago) to get all those passengers complaining that there are Ryannair/Easyjet type fares in this region..

For work I will need to be in MEX at least two times a month for a while, but with those prices I will end taking the bus instead  Smile, I only found reasonable prices (about $250) by mid May.

It actually would be very interesting to see TA in LAS, even if they're not into flying to Leisure destination that much (LR dropped MCO). IMHO, given the amount of Centralamericans in Southwest U.S.A. SAN, SMF and PHX could be other attractive destinations for TA in the future too.
I often wonder, if MCO works for CM, how come CM has not tried LAS, which seems to be an upscale leisure destination when compared to MCO.

LAS is for adults. MCO is for families. I think that our latin society is more likely to vacation with family than a group of guys/girls (or any combination) and that is the type of people that LAS apeals more too. So

TA involvement in LAS would definately VFR and not "leisure" per-se.

I think Vegas style gambling is too expensive for the average Central American

Do not generalize, Wealthy Latinamericans (I'm thinking the one that might flight Businessclass via CM PTY hub) like to go to LAS or would like to visit LAS at sometime. And as LAS as a family destination, I can't imagine a family vacation in MCO when the family has teenagers over 16 or is traveling with their children and spouses only (no grandchildren)..
Yes, there're the heavy-duty gamblers, but there are also theones who will travel to LAS for the Shows, Concerts, Sports Events or Conventions. LAS does moves a lot of passengers from Latinamerica due to those venues and not just gambling..
I believe a CM B737-700 thrice weekly PTY-LAS-PTY might work, my concern there would be CM crews running amok in LAS the days they've to spend there between flights!!

Hmm.. I have seen it and i can imagine it.. and that the point isnt it? I dont see a clear market for LAS. Sure there are big gamblers.. but enough?

Whats with the 16yo limit. CM doesnt care if the child is 5 - still occupies and pays for a seat (and bothers everyone around).

The average Central American is not a Weatlhty Latinamericans so i am technically still correct.. I would think that it would be expensive for average Latin Americans too. I still think that the "las vegas gambling" market is very low in the americas. So service to LAS has to be based on other factors.

The age limit had nothing to do with CM and if a child regardless of age occupies a seat. It has to do with what is attractive for the teenagers over 16 that is in LAS and not in MCO. As anybody who has been a teenager would know, just around 16 is the time when one doesn't want to be treated like a child but as a (young) adult. Unlike MCO, LAS is not a recommended destinations with families with small kids (pre-teens and under) but as children become older and turn into older teenagers, there're surely attractions for those young adults in LAS that aren't Casinos or X rated shows.

Yes, LAS is not all about gambling, I've been there 5 days and only spend USD20 in casinos. Sadly, people don't realize that there are travelers who go to LAS for other reasons than Gambling, those are the ones that could make a CM PTY-LAS dream route profitable.

Thanks for loking up this for me, I will have to keep this to myself or my boss would get some ideas here.

Since we are on the possibilty of new routes, what about the new US, will they will expand to Latin America?, I believe that a PTY-PHX with good connections could work, right now getting from PTY to the west coast is not that easy. With AA i have to make 2 stops to get to PHX, with CO is ok but for other destinations on California IAH is out of the way makes trips longer.

Excellent news! About time we got more service here!  bouncy

Just found a link with the news:

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

P5 has requested 7 additional frequencies between PTY and BOG due to extremely high demand. AV has also requested 7 Frequencies. If approved this would bring the total number of PTY-BOG flights to 7 (4 by CM-P5) and 3 by AV.

The increase in demand is attributed to the large number of Colombians purchasing real estate in Panama City.

Panama is close to signing a new bilateral with Colombia, also Panama has officially announce that they will NOT require Visas for Colombian citizens, something that has been in the works for a while. The final reason for the decision was that Colombia is the second largest source of tourist to Panama.
