Picture Of LAN's Premium Business Class Seat

Thu Mar 29, 2007 2:40 am

It has been hard to find a picture of LAN's Premium Business class, but here's a link I found. Surprisingly, it is actually an angled lie-flat and very different from the description and computer generated rendering of the seat on LAN’s website. Disappointed that they aren’t SAA style.

yeah, that's not at all like the impression I was given previously. That's no different from dozens of other airlines business class... nothing special.

I have a question about Lan and thier planes' configuration.... are all (Boeing and Airbus) widebodies going to have the same type of service? Because on their website it says that the A340 will no longer have 1st class, but there's no information if they will be updated with the new interior of the B763s... could someone explain what is going on? Thanks.... BTW, Lan's new business seat is great!

It has and will always depend on the airline and the customer base that they can attract. Airlines that service a large customer base, fly long-haul and have a wide network as well as using fifth freedom rights (like CX, QF, SQ, EK) will always have the need for 1st class as they're able to attract the premium customer base that is prepared to pay for this luxury.

Other airlines, less fortunate in their "natural" circumstances, have recognised this and adapted a product to suit. NZ for example has dropped it's first class and now offers elite business class, executive economy and very good economy products in long-haul. It's medium and short haul product are different again - appropriate to their circumstances.

The layout is dictated by airline customer not manufacturer. Airlines utilising product from both major manufacturers will need synergy of product across the fleet if they're servicing the same tasks - this to appropriately meet customer expectation.

IMHO of course

Thanks for the info Flyfirst...hopefully I will get to try the new PBC when I fly down to GYE in a couple of weeks.

Atnight was actually asking what are they going to do with the first class cabin now that they have stopped offering it and if they will be installing the PBC on the A340 like they are doing on the 767s. I have no idea if this will be done...

Atnight I beg your pardon, that was a very patronising answer to your question and I'm sorry I didn't read it thoroughly. Thank you Chupame for pointing it out.

So LAN have found themselves in the economic circumstances of other decent airlines in geographic isolation like NZ. I wonder if SA will do the same?

Apology accepted  Wink I am however wondering if there are any friends from Chile who could tell us what will be the final configuration on their A340s.... I will eventually fly on the SCL-SYD segment, and would like to know what type of service will be available..... Thanks Chupame for clarifying my question..

According to their website and pics which are in the DB this is what LA's premium seats are like on the A343. I wouldn't mind trying it for a ridiculously low price of $320AUD (oneway of course) despite the early morning departure out of AKL to

There doesn't appear to be any indication of them changing the A340's cabin at any point soon... unless you've heard something?! Makes sense to me to have a consistent product across their fleet.

Hi!

This is the oficial photo for the new interiors:

I heard that the 340 will also see the new interiors in Business and Coach, finally killing first from LAN's skies.

I think this is a HUGE mistake and will tell you why. I am a Comodoro/Emerald (7 years in a row) in Lan Pass and I get upgraded on all flights on a space available basis.
My company pays me to fly in Business class and I usually was upgraded to First. Now that they are removing First class on all 767 and maybe 340, I will only buy coach class and still fly in Business class. There is a $4,000 difference in the ticket price that LAN will loose with me each month traveling to MIA.

Not a good move... and the end to the great ALMAVIVA wine in First.

with respect I think you have shown exactly why they are removing First ... by your own admission you usually got upgraded - in other words they were not actually filling the seats with paid First class pax .

That is true, but they only had 5 seats in the front and why not keep them to their most loyal pasengers. Still they will loose big amounts of cash, since pasengesr like me will only buy coach tickets insted of business.

Funny to see that official photos are so rare, here are some quick n dirty shots I took on last years FIDAE:
On the left of one you can see the 180° flat seat / bed.

Maybe you won't keep your emerald status by buying only economy tickets. Then you won't even get upgraded to BCSmile

beacuse they can switch 5 unprofitable seats for 6 protitable seats. Besides, you'll keep flying LAN, right?

You mean horizontal flat or tilted in an angle down to the ground? After seeing the first drawings and demo video, I was under the impression that it was a fully horizontal bed, like the one from South African Airways. But now I see the real pictures taken by LH526, they don't seem to be real horizontal  confused

I just flew one of Lan's newer style 763's from LAX to GRU. They are indeed lie flat seats, not angled like the first picture link, albeit a bit thin, and not as wide as a standard business class seat. According to their web site they are doing away with first class on some routes (I think the ones to and from north america IIRC). Their new premium business class seat is, of course, better than their old business class seat, which unfortunately I got flying from SCL-LAX for the return trip... their A340 business class seating seems to have a greater pitch than their old style 763's (correct me if I'm wrong)

I can't wait to taste the full "flan" seats !  Wink

But, seriously, the seats look awesome. LAN is way ahead of the rest of latin american airlines. Good for them.

I fly over 130.000 miles a year, so I still would get Emerald status, but I still think is they should keep First.

Dont know the statistics, but on the SCL - AKL - SYD route, they are ussualy full in First.
I will still fly LAN to Europe and Sydney, now for the US, I will try the new AA seat.

I guess it does. Nothing stops an airline serving wine early in the morning to premium pax
