Does anyone have a link to this video? I have searched both on here and youtube under every possible wording I can think of. You know....the one with the idiotic commentary...thanks alot.

Actually without the commentary and the captions it's not a bad video. Some of the comments are so stupid though and combined with the creepy tone of voice (reminding me of a Steven King novel) just spoil the whole video. "Turning at the outer marker" at the end of the runway, calculating the V1 speed and "we are on the road to hell" are up there with the best. The "author" paid $20 for A.net membership some months ago though and there was a lengthy disussion here already.

Ha, ha. Thanks for posting the link. Reading the captions on that tape are hilarious. Talk about being over dramatic. The knowledge of what is going on in the flight deck, more flight hours than a certified pilot, outer marker, fireballs, knowing when V1 is by looking out the window with a camera, the horrors, a life changing experience. Priceless.

I presume that it was in the last three years during the summer months because there was AC 40 parked at the gate as well.

But is it more recent such as last summer?

It is radio transreceivers that is banned although many airlines ask electronic devices to be turned of during this phase. But I don't think AC specifically does, more details from AC fliers?

That's perfectly plausible. Many road warriors spend well over 100 hours per month in an airline seat. Most airline pilots spend 80. I'll bet there are members of this board who have logged more time airborne than many of the pilots that ferry them around.

I'm not sure. but it's not worth searching for it. Imagine a video of a rejected takeoff from a passenger's perspective (quite undramatic) and some attached commentary from an overly dramatic narrator (the filmer). Sure, it was a bit laughable and also a bit geeky. But the sharks on this forum were quick to ridicule and brand him an idiot for misidentifying certain aviation terms and for exaggerating the event. Even still, people (above) are calling him a tool/toolbag.
It's not very encouraging, considering each one of us knows little or nothing about many other topics, and would be loathe to have 'experts' publicly belittle us.

There was a posting some months ago, possibly at the end of 2006. The person that filmed the video started the thread and posted a link, he also mentioned he had just started his membership. I don't think he was prepared for the battering that he took and proceeded to remove the video from the upload location very quickly. By then of course another A.netter had downloaded it and posted it again. The tread had hundreds of responses, especially when members here found out that the person had used a false name to join a.net but had published a link to his blog containing his real name. A think he was a student from Toronto and from his blog you could tell he was more interested in food than flying.

I find it's more the tone of his voice that made him sound like a complete git. Misidentefying procedures/equipment is understandable, but his constant over dramatiztion of the whole take-off phase (never mind the rejected take-off) is way over the top and that's what IMHO makes him an utter moron.

Then his comment about him flying as many hours as a certified pilot, well, this may be, but guess what, he isn't a certifed pilot.

While I agree with 3point, if you fly routininly enough, you get a general idea of what's happening, but a very general idea. And if you have logged so many hours as he claims he does, you would realize that this was not nearly as serious as he tries to make it out to be. Maybe he should apply for a journalism job ... Wink

hahahaha I agree with you. This idiot has been discussed before - I think he actually has an a.net account.
I believe the conclusion we came to before was that this guy was probably born without enough oxygen, and that he is defiantly a few fan blades short of an engine.

This guy was being pretty asinine on his video, being overly dramatic, and frankly quite annoying. People on A.net have limited tolerance for people annoying pretending like they know what's up, and being dramatic and what not. This guy was an annoying tool.

When you're in that seat on the plane, you've got no power over what happens. If the plane aborts landing, so what... none of this "we could have been crispy critters in a fiery ball of death" crap. If you walk away from the plane alive after an aborted takeoff, skidding off the runway, or a perfectly smooth flight, the outcome is the same. The guy who made this video just needs more excitement in his life.

The difference is, I don't pretend to be an expert on things I do not have a high level of knowledge. My favorite people are the kind who will talk out of their ass (to "impress" others) thinking no one else around will be able to question it or know the difference.

My personal favorite is we're landing in RDU on a Southwest flight from MCO. The weather was God awful. Heavy rains. Low ceiling. Parts of I-40 were closed due to flooding that day. That would be getting closer to V2 (positive rate of climb), Vr is called out when the aircraft has reached the point in it's take-off roll to start rotating the nose into the air, but it still takes a few seconds for the aircraft to start climbing. Wink

I think people respond negatively towards the guy because he thinks "experience" as a passenger and enthusiast makes his comments more valuable than those of someone else when he says a lot of nonsense and over dramatic things. It is like video taping a fender bender on the freeway, mentioning that you have the experience of an automotive engineer because you have opened the hood a few times, mention how the steam powered engines could have been damaged, then talk about possible fireballs and disaster and how something has gone "very very wrong" while the vehicles under their own power drive off the shoulder of the freeway. I think people would have simply corrected him rather than chastising him if it wasn't for his claims of experience and superior knowledge. There is nothing wrong with not knowing something. The error is claiming to know what you don't know or claiming a comprehensive analysis of facts when only a quick opinion is being made.

I know. I've logged over 6000 commercial hours and I sure couldn't tell you from the passenger cabin when we reach V1. Which is why I mentioned the following.

Hi Its me again!

Two questions came to my mind after this V1 and VR talk.

1. Is V1 allways slower than VR? I am talking about airliners from a 737/A320 upwards-size!
2. What about for example the 13L/31R at JFK. Can it be possible that on a long runway a passenger plane ( not a Cessna taking of at Groomlake runway) can still stop after VR if they didn't put the nose up yet?

Everyone dumped on the guy because, IIRC, he claimed that he almost died in that RTO. After everyone who saw the video before it disappeared the first time told him it wasn't that serious, he couldn't accept that then claimed he could have died and continued to spew all kinds of other b.s.

What a tool. The OZ aircraft must have been at fault since pax in the lounge are always the best source of information. Could it be that some FOD blew a tire during the roll (the bang was pretty discernable over his incessant banter). If the situation was so dire, why did they bother to return to the gate under power?!

I, for one, think the pilots realized that they were going to have to eat Air Canada food during the ride over and simply couldn't deal with it!!!

Now correct me if I am wrong but the V1 and Vr can be equal but the V1 can not be grater then Vr, providing you have a long enough runway and can stop in time with your current weights etc....
