In other news I heard rumors, that FLY HAVA YOLLARI re-startet operations for summer 2007, can anyone confirm??

The last I heard, March 22, 2007, legally, the lawsuits that took FLY's operating licences, was overturned. They are in the middle of restructuring and might be ready to operate this summer.

Other news:
-SQ upgrades to 744 for the IST flights.
-TK numbers are out for last year compared to 2005.
Net profit up by 28% to $132.
Pax no up by 20% to 17 Mil.
Income up by 22% to $2.8 Bil.

I read that news as well and was amazed. Isn't this the first scheduled B747 flight ever? I can't remember of any others before. The only time I saw a Jumbo at IST was a QF diversion due to pax illness.

Stylo777:

Saudia uses 747s mostly on Hajj times, also I remember Singapore Airlines were using Jumbos before T7s. I don't know why they've changed again.

Pan Am and TWA were using 747s (I am not exactly sure about TWA). Once I saw LH Cargo 747-200F landing on 36R.

Also KLM Cargo is using 747-400F, every sunday you can see the blue beauty.

Edit: Sorry I wrote this message before I saw your next message regarding 747-400.
At the moment only KLM Cargo is for 747-400

I would like to speculate on this Turkish news. Somewhere in the middle of the article it says, "Since ordering 59 planes in 2004, TK received 31 so far. Remainder of this year they will get 9 more, and in 2008 19 more."

As far as I know, here is the delivery schedule as of now:
In 2007, 7x320s, 2x321s. ( 9 more till the end of this year)
In 2008, 6x320s, 5x321s. (11 more in 2008, 19-11=8 ??)

If what this article says is true, then the rumor of 8x738s in 2008 would make perfect sense. Anyone can confirm these numbers?
Thanks.

I just looked up in Amadeus and it shows that this flight operated by B747 is a non-stop flight between SIN and IST and only operated on Fridays. (SQ496)

the current 4x weekly flight via DXB is still operated by B773. (SQ490)

Probably a seasonal addition.

Most funny thing happened today. The crew scheduling called me if I can accept an unscheduled flight due to crew shortages of the mornings fog.I laughed and told him to call Turkish Army Commander for permission since I am officially in the army now,and I am not even allowed to act as a crew member at the moment.

yeah yesterday was a mess RVR was 150m for runway 36R, lots of diverst in the morning the frequency was crazy...we were sitting at gate 201 waiting to push for BRU yesterday morning, i did my first Low viz ops with the captain it was neat.....taking off was no problem however getting in sucked for most of my colleagues  Smile

If you take off in low visibility, you can't land unless there is CATIIIA with an RVR of 150 in IST, and since CATII is the highest, you need a takeoff alternate, in our case yesterday's takeoff alternate was ADB.

Wing, that is just hillarious, see how things are connected at the airline....next thing you know they will call you because they need you to ferry a plane and you're close by haha...salaklar ya...

I've the information that the two Atlasjet A319 will go to Turkish Airlines. Is this information (from September 2006) still correct?

I was just wondering what the current situation is with Turkish Airlines' long haul fleet order; it was to choose between the A340-600 and the 777-300ER?

Do you think the 787 will be in contention; it would seem to be a good replacement for the A310, A330 and A340, since the -8 (or -3) could replace the A310 and a mixture of -9s and -10s could replace the A330 and A340.

It's great to see Turkish Airlines doing so well; it's new Dublin route is up to five per week (it only started about 12-18 months ago, with 2 flights a week) and IST is quite a popular transit point for routes to Asia from Ireland.

Those would be the two 319's that TK currently flies. Both were part of an Atlasjet order until Atlasjet decided to downsize.

Wing,
Thanks for the list. TK website still has an addition mistake at A321 column, it should be 9 not 10 as total, bringing the total fleet number to 99. 7 more 320,321 will leave hopefully to make room for the 9 320,321 coming this year and the numbers will start to increase again.

Quoting LTAC03R (Reply 66):
It's sad they're slowly phasing out the 734's.

As Bahadir always points out TK paid more money to lease this fleet to actually buy them, what a waste of money to lease a plane for more than 15 years. Looks like the 3 734s are -4QEs, so the number for 734s in servide are at 11, and will stay there until a decision is made about their future.

Hello Kaitak, nice to see you here.
In my wildest dream TK will do down to two types 787, and 737 in less than ten years, but that is me. 787-8,-9,-3, and 737-7, -8, -9. or a combo.
Also Dublin is a natural choice with its economy booming and attracting young visitors from all over Europe. I wouldn't be surprised if it goes daily.

Edited for wrong calculations, misspelling, and bunch of other errors since I haven't had any coffee yet.

Top 10 EU Baggage Losers - BA Ranks 1st (by R2rho Apr 9 2007 in Civil Aviation)
TK is one of the best in terms of not losing your bags, according to this list. #1 in Q4 2006, and #2 in 2006 all year.
In the same list though, punctuality is not so good, better in long haul. Also departures are in the top 5 but arrivals are at the bottom of the list. Funny!
Also delays are down at IST 19%, good thing. Only ATH, and AMS are better in this reduction than IST.
Traffic is up at TK close to 30% whereas the European avg. is around 4% for Jan and Feb. this year.

according to www.airporthaber.com TK will lease an A330-200 for 6 months during the upcoming summer season.

Now the questions are:
- which airline has a spare A332 and could lease it?
- due to the short term leasing I suppose they won't change the interior of the leased aircraft so it must be an operator without a First Class section (TK don't have F/Cl)
- on which routes will this aircraft mainly used? My guesses are Europe such as DUS, FRA, CGN, ORY, AMS, TXL.

This is kind of strange, because TK decided to lease 3 of the type couple of months ago, why would they go down to one? Again a little too late, they might have better luck with a 340.
I agree this might be for European destinations you have mentioned, and don't forget TLV which sometimes gets 3x 332 service a day, also smaller cities; like yesterday Apr.15th 332s went to BCN and HAJ.

TK received an approval for 3 long haul aircraft. They now decided to use 1 of them.

332s to BCN and HAJ were for two big events: congress in BCN and fair in HAJ.

I was on 332 to BCN on April 10 and back yesterday. Flight was 3h15min delayed due a minor technical problem. That was the explanation but we heard that the fuselage was damaged.

- Sky came over and never heard about it? Hmm.. the lady pilot Burcin, is a old friend of mine from license conversion days and she was also in the crew that landed at a wrong airport last year in Poland.

- As far as THY's 330? Could it be Air Canada? I saw their brand spanking new 777 in Everett yesterday. It looked awesome.

- Fly air should be grounded period. They owe a lot of money to the a lot of people and they should not be allowed to fly again. Then again, this is Turkiye.. things happen because of connections..

- Atlas was saved by the bell thanks to the Saudia deal. I hardly doubt that they are making money with services to underserved markets.

- Was looking for tickets in June IST-BJV for mom. KK has 3 flights, Onur has 2 and PGT has only one flight. TK will be the winner this year. As I mentioned before, it's hard to beat TK in flight frequency.

- PGT is starting more and more flights to Germany. This is a smart move because there always is a constant flow of pax from Germany to various parts of Turkey. SAW is not an ideal place for connections, but IST is taken. On the other hand, the leader on Germany-Turkey travel Oeger Tur is working more and more with BlueWings.. turkish carriers are losing the market share on the Germany-Turkey travel.

- Turkey still needs to modernize the airports, approaches, the procedures, etc. The study done by Pegasus revealed that they are losing millions in fuel costs because of indirect routes due to the military training areas.

I think AC is not putting them in the market just yet. Also they have 8 333s, with 42J, 232Y seats. The range is 10,500km, 1,500km less than TKs 332s, and 343s. Engine issues?

-How about this news from airporthaber.com that TK might be interested in buying another airline. Any rumors? A domestic or an int. airline? Do they have thay kind of money?
-Also bringing some international investors into management (rumors of Mark Mobius?)

I heard MS is doing quite well between IST and KUL so maybe TK might want to resume their flight. I believe there is enough long-haul aircraft to open a few new routes but I believe IAD, YYZ, CPT even maybe LAX have priority.

I remember TK announcing that they would fly to MEL or SYD soon so maybe they might start a new IST-KUL-MEL/SYD route... Just a speculation  Smile

On another issue, TK started a ticket service charge. As of April 1st, they have been charging 15 YTL for domestic, 25 Euros short/int. and 45 Euros for long/int. flights for economy class. And 25 YTL, 45 EUR and 75 EUR respectively in Business Class. It's getting more expensive to fly on TK....

I haven't heard about that but they were supposed to start a low-cost airline one of these days. I wonder what happened to that plan...Anyone?

TK service to KUL will be via BKK.

I supposed you mean MH? Yes, the load was fine based on my experience with them in December 2006. IST-KUL was doing better than KUL-IST. I just thought that MH should upgrade IST to B777-200ER from the current A330-200.

Speaking on MS, they have yet to start KUL. Their scheduled first flight will be on 2 June 2007. The service will be via BOM, 2 times a week and will be upgraded to 3 times a week beginning 2 July 2007.

MS will bridge Cairo and Kuala Lumpur again after MH withdrawn CAI on 28 October 2006 following their restructuring. MH used to served CAI with B777-200ER, 2 times a week. Maybe they could shift the aircraft to IST.

KUL flights (TK 62 via BKK 3 weekly) appeared on Amadeus in early March.

However, couple af days later they dissappeared and I believe nobody has an idea when and if they will start...

Nice videos...

An international hotel chain in TRNC is a first... Accor is expanding rapidly in Turkey which is great news... More hotels to chose from....

Did any of you fly to ECN? Landing there is simply amazing.. Because of the "Besparmak Mountains", the aircraft can not lose enough altitude to land so they circle around the town at very low altitudes... At high winds, it's like a arollercoaster  Smile

Airporthaber.com reports TK wants to "wet lease" a 738 for the summer.
I find this kinda strange, why only one frame, why now, why 738?
What happened to the single 332 lease?

Any chance it might be a Futura B738 with winglets? There was one outside Turkish Technic last night.

Turkey and Cameroon signed an open sky agreement for flights between both countries. This agreement includes flights from IST to YAO - the capital of Cameroon.

Interesting. Hows the demand between the two countries like? It'd be interesting to see TK in Younde.
