Boeing Orders Update For 4/3/2007

Thu Apr 05, 2007 11:46 pm

Here's Boeing's weekly order update for this week:

http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm

5 x 787 for JAL
18 x 787 UFO
3 x 737 BBJ
24 x 737 UFO
9 x 777 UFO

That's 59 new orders and they are up to 185 net new orders for this year.

To break those figures down a bit:
The 9 777s are 2 x 773ER, 2 x 772LR, and 5 772ER (orders placed on the 30th of March.)
The 18 787s are 15 x 788, and 3 x 789 (orders placed on the 30th of March too.)
The 24 737s are 15 x 73G, 5 x 73G and 4 x 738.

Could someone (BA) made part of their long haul order this week with 18 787s and 9 777s? All on the same day, all fitting into the category that they would be looking at. Obviously its a bit low, but maybe its a split order?

What I really find amazing is that just under 80% of the 185 ordered aircraft is wide-body product... incredibly strong cash source to rely on!

787 UFO's:

Model Order Date Total
787-8 28-Jul-2006 2
787-8 15-Sep-2006 11
787-8 18-Jan-2007 2
787-8 24-Jan-2007 2
787-9 09-Mar-2007 15
787-9 30-Mar-2007 3
787-8 30-Mar-2007 15

So I know the 787 program has 514 firm orders... yet I don't understand how they get 43 different customers. Last week, they had 39 customers. Added 2 UFO orders (total 18)... how does that make 4 more "new" customers to get to 43 (JAL does not count)?

Wow... and considering that all but the 747-8 have paid for themselves, Boeing's gonna be raking it in once they deliver these. Wide-bodies are where the dosh is. I'm wondering if the 777 will cross the 1000 orders mark this year. Hasn't the 767 already done that?

Perhaps I don't understand orders math. Boeing announced that the order for 5 787s from JAL pushed the total order count for the 787 over 500. According to the orders website that are the only 787 order added this week. How ever the 787 order report shows a total count of 787 orders is 514 and the JAL order isn't listed there. Perhaps one shows only finalized orders and the other shows orders in process? Interesting. To see the 787 report go to the intial link in this thread and click Standard Reports -> click model -> select 787 from current models and click view reports

It is 57 more 777s for 1000 (as Zvezda said). The total orders were 903 at end 2006, and there are 40 this year.

The (15 787-8s and 3 787-9s) were ordered on 30th March. Now as has been discussed on other threads, these should be for four new customers. Four new customers on the same day! That's a bit odd.

Widebodies are indeed as strong as ever, but that extreme shift of balance is really to do with the dearth of 737 orders.

Of course if you look at last year there were no 777 orders booked until May, and aside from the large QF order announced in 2005, there were only 9 787s through early April 2006. In contrast Boeing booked around 100 737s. Things go in cycles, and a lot depends on the types of orders Boeing was trying to book before the end of the year in 2005 and 2006 to get the orders crown.

Yes but not BA.

I would expect the BA fleet renewal to be announced in much the same way as the recent 772ER order. As in they will tell their share holders first.

Well, in terms of carriers who don't plan on ordering new aircraft at this stage but have to, I automatically think of AA, UA, and DL. Of those three carriers AA and DL are not considering the A350, but UA had been publicly noted as considering both types, so my only guess is UA ordering in the first of many stages, which would certainly be nice to see!

It couldn't be DL, since they would have to disclose it publicly as it was ordered, even as UFO, in BK.

That leaves AA and UA for USA carriers, and I'm pretty sure it's AA based on their recent moves. They need to secure 787-8s ASAP, even if they are waiting to announce when the 787-10 is launched.

But that's just my take.

AA already has a boatload of deferred 737 on order, right? They wouldn't need to place new orders, just accelerate deliveres. So I doubt AA on the 737's.

AA also has deferred 777 orders, which I don't expect them to ever take delivery on, but rather to convert to 787,

Any chance that AA will take some 787-8's from ILFC? ILFC has 22 on order, with only 7 assigned to customers (so far as I know). 15 787's available in 2010 might be a good start for AA, with purchased aircraft to follow.

I would say it's for Gulf Air from the clues given.

Lots of trouble with the current 767 fleet which will need replacing a.s.a.p. Afew 767's near term to tide them over, then the 787's as actual replacements. If this is the case then you will see additional orders in the future for 787-9's and if launched the 10's, this would allow the current 763's,332's and 343's to be replaced by one aircraft type.

Could all of that be for one customer? If would be very odd to see multiple customers book on the same day.

Now... who operates (would want to operate) 737s, 777s, (including the 777-200LR) and 787s, and would not yet be sure of their engine choice?

Sounds like Delta

About time we see some 737 orders.

With WN's last purchase (awhile back), isn't the production line for the 737 full with a strong waiting list?

I'm pretty sure it's AA based on their recent moves.

Which would bring us to the next all important question -- how will AA modify its iconic red/white/blue livery on polished aluminum on its 787s??? A question almost as interesting as when AA will order the beasts to begin with (and when NW will discard its DC-9s)  Wink

That's 59 new orders and they are up to 185 net new orders for this year.

Not bad. Boeing won more orders in the first quarter of 2007 than it had in 2006. 185 vs 176.

Airbus is having a very good quarter too.

Cheers.

The 9 777s are 2 x 773ER, 2 x 772LR, and 5 772ER (orders placed on the 30th of March.)
The 18 787s are 15 x 788, and 3 x 789 (orders placed on the 30th of March too.)

Is it completely out of the question that these five 777-200ERs and the three 787-9s are for Air New Zealand? They've been ordering 787s in small lots and they could use the 777-200ERs. Just a thought...

Can't say if its true, but as said: its an airline which really needs it... don't be suprised to see an interm solution.

You'll understand the hint, and if im wrong, it will be the next 787 order

You are just speculating here. I've heard something completely different. AF-KLM is going to order the A350/B787 at the same time as a joint order and they aren't going to do it this year. However, KLM is going to replace their MD-11 slightly before the original schedule of 2012 with more B777's and A330's. KLM has been looking at the B787 but doesn't want to add another new widebody plane at this moment. They are concentrating on B747, B777 and A330 and will stick with this for now.

Edit: forgot to mention that some of the B777's are for KLM as well as the 4 B737-800's.

Cheers!

I must say you sound pretty confident about your sources
Well, your version makes much more sense, first the 787-8 isn't a proper M11 replacement, the M11 is a fair bit larger.
Ordering 15 frames is more than finding an "interim solution", it is choosing for the 787, period. AF-KL have said for a long time the 787/350 decision would be a joint one, now if this would be indeed a KLM order, this could have some significant impact, for which I believe it is a little too early, seen that there is so little known about the 350, and the state Airbus is currently in.

The 777 / 737 order however, is very much KLM style. Placing a modest number of wide-body orders, combined with a small number of narrow-bodies that accompany the deal. KLM orders tend to show up as UFO's first, so I think this is very valid, as the 777 is a proper replacement for the M11, and KLM very pleased with its performance. It's sad to see the last McDonnell Douglas plane leaving the KL fleet - of which I understand the lease rates are close to "nothing", but the plane causes so much disruption in the KL operations, I think they are making the right choice. That is, if your sources are correct
