If this is true this will be the first time we dont see a polished belly on DL for a very long time. I think that Polished aluminum adds class to the whole livery. Ill be sad to see it go with the widget......

I really like that last concept with the shrunken widget up front, however I think that design would be absolutely perfect if the engines were all blue. Just for my curiosity, could you post a pic with the widget taken off the engine? Nice work.

After looking at it a lot, I have to say I love the new colors. It screams class to me, I can't wait to see it on an actual plane. Hopefully they turn the widget right-side up though, then it would be perfect. Here's to a bright future for all of the people who make Delta the great airline it is!

I was really skeptical, especially after reading the majority of comments on the forum, but I like the new livery. It's clean and powerful. The logotype really pops.

Here's my take on what seems to be giving people the most pause ... the tail. It's a bit of a geometrical problem trying to fit the widget onto the tail of an aircraft without distortion. The widget is essentially an equilateral triangle, and the tails of various aircraft are truncated scalene triangles. The two shapes are really hard to match. The idea to rotate the widget 120° to allow it to be placed, undistorted and yet not geometrically awkward, on the tail, is brilliant.

I think it's a jarring change, and a controversial one for sure. But from the point of view of a professional designer, this is solid work, and should endure ... at least seven years until the next change  Big grin

Just to add my two cents in:

Delta has a winner with the "wavy gravy" livery. This new design is an absolute dud. Why the hell did they tip the widget on its side? It leaves out half the logo. Not only that, but the widget is all red. Stick to the red and blue, paint the tail background white and get the whole logo on the tail. It seems they are trying to mimic UAL in cropping the tail logo. It works for United but NOT for Delta.

I have got to admit, I'm beginning to like the way this looks. That is, in part, due to the different variations that have come out. RootsAir's variation, however, is great. I think it looks better than US simply because the red is right on top of the blue. Either way, I think this livery is going to look good on a lot of planes.

I was'nt very impressed by the new livery at first (I was'nt that impressed with the new US livery) but looking at it I like it. Delta is becoming a trully global airline, an airline that is respected and is coming of age. This livery represents this new airline that DL has become, its classy, minimalist and will look great when flying.

The present livery is much better and also more beautiful than the projects in this thread. The projects here have really nothing special, nothing original, it looks like any common livery already in use...while the present one is something quite unique and striking.

I have a question...any help/information would be highly apreciated:

Who has done the 1/50 scale model of the 767???? It looks terrific (not the livery, but the model!)

Is it possible to buy that kind of airplane models...??
... I would LOVE to have the whole El Al fleet (OC) in such a great rendition.....!!

Thanks.... Smile
I bitterly miss the livery that should never have been changed (repetition...)

Graphic I like the modification with the widget at the front. IMO the blue doesnt need to comeup to meet the widget though and there is no need for the maroon cheat line.

I wish I could do stuff like that maybe once exams are finish I will try something.

It's bland. Better than the 1997 livery and a bit stronger than the 2000 Deltaflot livery, but all in all, Delta is still struggling. They have a name that is hard to peg to a travel experience, flying, or otherwise. Delta is a triangle. They need to use the livery and corporate image to somehow convey to the world that they are a global carrier.

This looks like someone revived Canadian Airlines.

I guess that I am in the minority here, but I really like the new livery. It is simple, modern, classy, exactly what a livery should be. Most of the modifications on here just clutter it up and take away from it. I think the new livery really makes DL look like a business airline for the 21st century.

Funny,

Some of the support for some of the homemade alternatives being posted make me even more confident that Delta's new livery is going to be just fine.

It seems like there is a huge contingent on here who doesn't like the new livery because it isn't painted up like a NASCAR car. Delta is not a a leisure charter airline. It is a global, business-oriented carrier with a rich history. The new livery not only speaks to that history but actually creates a new standard of professionalism and elegance for the old lady from South. Too much flash, so much color could be construed as vulgar in many aspects. Look at the world's great airlines, few are flashy.

Much like the 90's era BA livery redefined the image that people had of British Airways, I think that this livery (actually total re-branding) could have the same effect on Delta.

A livery is a huge statement. I think clearly Delta is trying to move away from the "boy racer" look and to a more elegant and sophisticated identity.

I do sense that a lot of us are coming around to it as we ponder it. I'll say this again though, it will take on a whole new image when we see it painted on a REAL plane in REAL sunlight.

Delta did not get to launch this in the way that it wanted to. I think that is unfortunate. Opinions may have been much different if we had first seen it as it rolled out of the TOC into the bright Georgia sun.

I agree with Jetlanta - I've been watching some of comments on this thread with a sense of surprise in terms of how many people this livery has actually grown on. From what I understand, the livery was not done by Landor (as the current and previous ones were) or any other outside firm, but was done internally. I liked it from the get go. For my taste, it's a clean, simple, elegant look. Nothing more, nothing less. Is it similar to other carriers? Yes. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so.

At the end of the day, this may not be the end result anyway. Time will tell. But I, for one, am willing to wait and see what is rolled out of the TOC and how the real one looks.

Ok, I will finally join the minority and say that I really like the new livery. It's clean and elegant, and I'm guessing it's going to look even better in real life. Let's wait and see what it looks like. I'll have to admit, with all the branding on ticket jackets, billboards and printed materials lately, I thought the new livery was going to have elements of the Habitat for Humanity 767 that is flying around (with the wavy lines).

Having said all that, I think JuniorSpotters is even better. Imagine the line up of planes at Hartsfield with all those blue and red widgets, but I like the engine design better of the Delta Scheme; the one that's visible on the 738.

Maroon cheatline added:

That looks incredible. It doesn't take away from what they are trying to do, but at the same time, adds some more pizazz to the aircraft. It makes it stand out a little more, while still not being unprofessional or in your face. As I've said in previous posts, Delta needs to find something that appeals to the eye of both their liesure and their business travelers, as both are very important components of their business.

Quoting Jeffry747 (Reply 77):

I agree here as well. I am a HUGE fan of the wavy gravy livery, and unlike most on here who believe that it's "just not delta" I think it really screams DELTA!
