Tap Portugal - Confirms 3x A332's From Austrian.

Wed Apr 11, 2007 6:28 pm

Sorry folks link only in Portuguese.

It basically says that Tap will receive 3 A332's from Austrian Airlines.

This will also mean that Tap Portugal, by the end of 2008 will be operating the following longhaul fleet.

11 x A330-200 ( 6x PW + 5x GE)
4 x A340-300

http://www.presstur.com/site/news.asp?news=9888

In the same article it is also stated that TP is considering the opening of a new route to the US to one Star Alliance hub. If that happens, my bet goes to ORD.

Great news!

In my opinion, they have one of the best new liveraries and some very interesting destinations.  Smile

That's a really smart, distinctive livery - I wonder what it would look like on a A346?

Any news on their A350 reconfirmation (as I there was a suggestion of a couple more being thrown in?)

Hi!

According with the TP sources the A350 order is to maintain!!! At this moment the only thing that really bugs me off is the fact that TP will use the A330-200 with 2 different types of engines...I don't know if this is good or bad. TP is getting their brand new A330-200's from October on and maybe they still had time to change the engines, or not?
I also hope that some austrian enthusiasts here can help us keeping the track of those ex: Austrian A330-200's. Are they still flying or they left already Austria?

Basically the frames will help TAP to boost its presence in GRU, GIG and LAD in addition to launching LIS-BSB nonstop scheduled to start in mid-June 2007.

Can anyone confirm if two of the weekly flights (Wednesday and Friday) to BSB will have a stop in GIG?

Will TP ever consider coming back to Boston (BOS)? I know this question comes up time and time again but the answers always vary...

Now that IB is coming over, I feel like the chances get smaller and smaller...if there ever was a chance!

Same as on the 343 and 332. Horrible, disgracious, shameful. An insult to any airplane. I can't think of uglier among all the legacy carriers. I'm glad that some people like it though, good for them!

On a side note : what is taking over the 332's job at OS? 763? 772?
I don't really understand why they got rid of an a/c type that (apparently) the whole industry is trying to put its hands on at the moment...

I have to be honest that I was one of the biggest critics of the new color scheme. Since it's introduction it has slowly grown on me.

From what we have seen lately from Jet Airways, Air Canada, and even Delta I think that Tap's scheme is still miles ahead.

Wings, many thanks for the news. Now with more planes and only a small part of their request for more Brazilian operations (21 weekly flights) authorized by Brazilian ANAC, i believe they will need to find how to use at least 1 plane !

Today TP announced also a capital increase of EUR 24 million on their MHRO operation in Brazil (VEM, with main facilities in GIG and POA). With 50 planes, and an increasing widebody fleet, i'm sure VEM will play an important role on TP strategy.

No way! TAP's livery is probably THE ugly duck among all liveries out there, even LX's is better Big grin But that's a personal opinion, though i haven't really heard a lot of positive critizism.

Hi!

When I look to a livery like the AC one and seeing the way AC is slidding down the way they conceive liveries well I really don't know what to say!!! But I understand AC livery, the colours they use reflect the country they have....all ice, all snow mostly all over the year. TP colours reflect our country, green like the fields, red like BENFICA and white because we're pure...and it's fresh because we are fresh people, we can live outside most of the year around. It's not the perfect livery, but because it's my airline from my country, and because I'm the one that actually paid a bit I think I like it...sorry, I'm portuguese...and I'm remembering a sentence that came out a few years ago - What is portuguese is good!!! - and I agree!

In my opinion BOS could be a very good option if it only had a stronger presence from a Star Alliance member. BOS O&D traffic to LIS is obviously higher than ORD but without a good feeding i don't think this could work.

I think that in terms of opening a new route to North America TP would be better with YYZ than ORD actually, although i think ORD will happen if TP decides to open a new route into this market.

I also think that SFO could work for TP but i think this is very unliekly.

TP TOP 3 new American destinations (IMO):
1- YYZ
2- SFO
3- BOS

A bit off topic but TP could / should / is already doing:

1- Consolidate Brazil
2- Consider MAO
3- Open Moscow
4- Consider EZE
5- Consider a North American city
6- Start operations to North African Countries (using A320 aircraft that spend the night seating at LIS)
7- Rearrange MPM/JNB flight from a 3 weekly LIS-MPM-JNB-MPM-LIS and 1 weekly LIS-JNB-MPM-LIS to 4 weekly LIS-MPM-LIS and 3 weekly LIS-JNB-LIS providing connections between MPM and JNB on the days the flight is not operated to each city.
8- Increase OXB and TMS to 2 weekly and end the STOP at SID on the inbound flight from TMS

Just some thoughts.

Agree with item 1, and it could be with a partnership with G3/RG !

I can't agree with item 2... MAO seems not to be so "hot" destination. I would say CNF is a good option.

Item 3 Ok, and what about India or China to take advantage of their Brazilian Network ?

EZE... i think it's a good destination as it could allow connections for Santiago de Compostela, La Coruna and other closer Spanish destinations. And EZE is under-served of non-stop to Europe, so TP could take an advantage on this !

About the Livery:

Gostos nao se discutem  Smile

I don't like it too much, to be honest i loved TP's old colors, it looked specially smart on the long A321, but well, i seem to have gooten used to it by now.
What i don't quite understand, i thought they were to be 'pearlish-white' kind? they are just plain white now...

I agree with Lipe. If they want to target MAO's market, they would most probably increase frequencies to BSB in order to capture connecting pax.

Correct... there is absolutely no market between Chicago and Lisbon. Toronto, Boston, and the SF Bay Area have huge Portuguese communities making maybe 2x weekly frequencies to each feasiable.
