Here is a video of Delta's new inflight entertainment system. I like how they went with Jetblues DirectTV competitor, Dish Network for their live inflight tv. So I wonder, who is doing the live tv retro-fits and will DL's planes now have that Jetblue like hump on the top of the fuselage?

My only concern with the new Delta Long Haul Product is consistancy, will there be enough aircrafts so if one goes machinical, they will still have a aircraft with the entertainment system available.

I imagine not for a long while. I guess I will miss out on this on my upcoming 757 ride from ATL-DFW.

This IFE system was very stable and fast on my last flight with DL. I can't wait for it to hit the 738, and AVOD on the 763 at some point.

I've used the new system between ATL and SLC before, and all I can say is that it truly is the best IFE I've ever had the privilege of using. The new DL long-haul product really hits the nail on the head in terms of making people happy. Another nice thing is, you can check to see if your flight truly will have it the day before or day of on delta.com by checking the flight status and then clicking the flight details link, and it will list the TV's as one of the amenities.

The only bad thing about it will be is if they dont keep up with the maintenance on it or cleanliness of it. Last flight I had on DL was up front in first and the tv screens were horribly dirty and it looked like it belonged in a 5 year old's room. They can have the best IFE in the world and if it dont work or it the screen if full of finger grease or food stains on it...they accomplish nothing in my book.

One thing I don't quite understand is why they use the new interior 757's on ATL-PHX but not ATL-TUS. Neither flight is over 4 hours and are actually about the same. There are also meals in F on the ATL-PHX and vice versa flights, but that is understandable beause DL doesn't have to have a flight kitchen in TUS.
A small question. On Delta.com, does 767-200 under aircraft type equal 767-400ER with the new interior? Thanks.

I've heard through semi-reliable sources that it costs about $2 million dollars per 757 to install... roughly $11,600 per seat! Wonder if DL is able to charge a few extra bucks to pay that off??

I believe you only have to pay for the live TV. The other features of the IFE are free.
JetBlue charges $5 for channels 38-40 (FOX InFlight)
Channels 1-37 are free. I think Delta will have a smiliar IFE system.

No, you pay only for pay-per-view movies. The rest of the system, including Live-TV is free.
I have been on a few flights, where they have had to re-boot the system. The same has occured with some other airlines with their IFE. Hopefully the system reliability will improve.

DL competes with both US and FL on the ATL-PHX route but, is the only airline on the ATL-TUS route hence the better product on ATL-PHX.

At AC we wii have AVOD on all aircraft 74seats and higher (yes that means on the CRJ705 and the EMB175(they're already equipped, others are being retrofitted as we speak) and it's FREE. The only flight we don't turn it on is YYZ-YOW (due to the very short flight time)...

767-200s are no longer flying w/ DL. The 762 that people keep seeing in the DL schedule are the ex-Gulf Air 767-300ER, if I'm not mistaken. It bugs me too when DL shows a 762 in their SKD when there's no such airplane, anymore.

I'd imagine not. Planes break and lets just say that airlines can't please everybody all at once. A working 757 without IFE is better than being stranded with no other options, period.

Having said that, DL's product is great. I've never used Air Canada's, but I love the live TV, and I love building music play lists and being able to play games with others on the plane. It's always fun when the first class passengers whoop the people in coach on trivia. (usually there's some guy in 37F that knows EVERYTHING...lol)
Anyway, I get to use the new IFE alot from SLC-ATL, SLC-JFK, SLC-EWR and SLC-BOS and it's really great. Plus because of scheduling, this product ends up on many flights less than 4 hrs. I've had it on SLC-SMF, SLC-LAX, SLC-SEA, ATL-PBI, ATL-JAX, etc, etc. So while people laugh that it's only on flights over 4 hours, it really is on many, many more flights, it will just be guaranteed to be on the 4+ hour flights by next year. The 738s are going into the shop now. I think it will be a while before the 763 domestic gets the IFE, because they need all new seats.

I really enjoyed using it recently on my PDX-ATL, and ATL-PDX runs. It's very easy to use, and has a TON of options for each pax. I really liked being able to pause movies if I needed to use the lav, or just wanted to get up and stretch my legs a little.

yeah, I think all of the games except for trivia are $5. TV/Music/Radio are free.
PS: To whoever called this IFE "nothing special" - which airlines have something similar on a domestic product? Certainly no other carriers in the US.. B6 only has LiveTV and XM.

I don't think he got offended, was merely pointing out that AC has a better system on more aircraft serving more destinations than DL, yet DL was trying to "toot their own horn" as my mother would say. As has been said before, though, this is the best IFE offered by any US carrier.

Calm down, I was just asking a question, sure if the plane went mechanical and there was no 757 w/IFE available, then of course I'd rather take one without rather than have my flight canceled. However Delta should do their best to find one with. And also you have to remember than not only is it IFE, its also extra legroom

Evan767 I'm not offended at all. I'm having a good laugh at the DELTA lady saying that they offer the best IFE in North America...which simply is false. We don't charge for any portion of our AVOD system period, looks like Delta's system is equipped to do so and they probably do. As for the best IFE product in the USA, the system that Virgin America has installed looks better than DL's , with a full QWERTY keyboard to boot. So my vote goes to Virgin before Delta.
