AC 777s To Be Featured On NBC Today Show

Sat Apr 28, 2007 4:19 am

A heads up to those that are interested:

Air Canada's 777 will be featured on NBC Today Show on April 30 7AM local time. It will be reporting live from Boeing in Everett, and AC's 777-200LR (fin 701) and 777-300ER (fin 733) will be given a insider look on how the 777 is built.

I think the Air Canada 777 is what a 777 is suppose to be, grand and understated. What a great example of Canada abroad.

I was on the Boeing factory tour today...All of their film crew was on the tour area just above the 777 line getting things set up. They certainly have a good vantage point. BTW, it was great to see the new Boeing Future of Flight center, a major improvement to the old tour center...Also they mentioned today that the 787 line began ramping up this week....While I didn't see anything on the line, it certainly looked like many people getting ready....

Air Canada's First Boeing 777-200LR fin# 701 and registration C-FIUA will be delivered in June of this year. If it is true that an AC 777-200LR will be featured it would most likely be in the paint process, or early flight testing.

FYI, there will be more interesting stuff to watch during that broadcast than an AC 777. I'm not sure if I can divulge as much as I want, but it would be worth the effort to watch. If I heard correctly, there will be some 787 stuff in there.

Trust me. You will want to see what they will be reporting.  Smile

Yes we do get NBC and CNBC on cable, however MSNBC is limited to satellite dish feeds.

Odd for NBC; being a American network to be featuring an AC 777 instead of an AA DL or UA 777. Didn't DL recently order the 777LR?

Sorry to be thick -- I know I should have seen this on A.net or AC's website before now, but what will be the 777's first routes for AC and when will it start them?

The main issue is likely the time it is showing. 7AM isn't exactly 'time to sit down and watch tv' time for many people.

The first 77W is already flying YYZ-LHR-YYZ and in the afternoons, YYZ-YUL-YYZ. about 5 or 6 x weekly.

Has this already happened?

It's doing the YYZ-YUL and YYZ-LHR runs as familarization flights at the moment, but they'll be put on major routes like Heathrow, Shanghi, Sydney etc.

And we do get NBC here; I've got two or three versions!

Channel 7 shows the NBC Today show from 4:00am to 6:00am Tuesday-Saturday mornings.

When the local NBC shows have their traffic and new reports we end up with the weather page.

From what I've heard, their suppose to fly YYZ-LHR and YYZ-FRA as their first 2 "major" routes for their 77W.

There is no hearsay on what routes the 77W and 77L are to fly, the detail is in the present AC or Star Alliance on line schedules through to early 2008.

It's not a case of not receiving it, it's a case of not being home to watch it.

Funny, and I thought LHR was Heathrow.
The YYZ-LHR run is not a familiarization run for the 77W; it's one of the runs for which the type was ordered..
The nice thing about a mistake is the pleasure it gives others.

Go to this website and click on the launc button on the right hand side just below the video and there's a whole bunch of parts to it but the best one is the "Matt takes Flight in a 777" it has 19 minutes worth of tours around the factory info about the 777 and 787 and a test flight in a 777 Simulator!

Interesting comment... I'm trying to determine if it was a deliberate slam on American nationalism or just a harmless contemplation. In any case, I doubt too many people watching the show were saying, "Why on God's green earth are they showin' Matt with one of them FOREIGN airliners!? Can't them people at NBC show some American pride?"

Then again, there are probably some Americans who don't realize Canada is a separate country.  dopey

I think the fact he was on an AC plane, showed to the audidence that Boeing is a global company.. Building aircraft for airlines in countries that use Igloo's for terminals.

I suspect that NBC used Air Canada to avoid having to show favouritism to one US airline over the others. They chose a plane belonging to a country that carries NBC programs.

I noticed an AC 777 was moved to the paint-shop prep area last night, so I am guessing she was the one shown on TV?

Boeing has been using the 747 line for the tour last week, so I don't know what's been going on at the 777 line since the weather sucks so the doors have been closed. On the plus side, they have been doing the flightline tour at the end.  thumbsup
