US Airways Nevada Colors Debut [w/pics]

Sat Apr 28, 2007 4:02 pm

FYI:

US Airways N822AW (A319) ferried ROW-PHX tonight wearing the new Nevada colors. N826AW (A319) was ferried PHX-ROW and will reappear some time in the next week or so wearing the new Arizona colors. For those of you following the US repainting, N826 was the last A319 wearing America West colors.

AMAZING! I love these special colours and I'm glad to see US Airways keep churning them out! I hope to see some Pennsylvania and North Carolina colours as well maybe?

Nice colourscheme. BTW, is it me, or is US trying to compete with WN when it comes to special colourschemes?  Wink

No, I think that HP has always had special paint schemes.

This plane looks good, I cant wait for the Arizona one.

Looks good, a little boring in the front though. No dark US cheatline on the belly or anything. Oh well, I can't wait to see N826AW now!

Wow I had no idea we were doing this...that's awesome! The Nevada scheme was always one of my favorites. I'm sure we will see some others for the east coast as well.

Overtime you will like HP's (or is it US?) better. Reason being the blue in the front of WN's aircraft begins to fade and peel over time. If you look at the one photo you can see a sort of beige box on the front of the aircraft. They applied a clearcoat to prevent peeling. There's a similar application to the rear of the aircraft.

I can't wait to see it during the daytime.

I saw both the 757 Arizona and 757 Nevada last week in LAS. They still put off painting them.  Smile Now this must be the first time to have two co-existing schemes, an A319 and 757?

It looks like this aircraft wasn't fully repainted ... if you look close enough, you can see around the front of the aircraft where there's a vertical 'line' forward of the US Airways titles, and a horizontal one below the nose that sort of form a 'box' over the cockpit area and nose in which the white looks a little darker and dirtier.

Although not a full body repaint, at least US is using smart marketing tactics in reintroducing the state flag schemes. Keeping the theme, but switching to a smaller a/c is just good business sense.

Interesting, I noticed last night on Quik that 822 was coming out of the shop. But this is not what I expected! In other west news, 914AW (last 75 in the AWE colors) also came out of ROW last night. 904AW is in MCN getting winglets along with East 202.

757 was better, these 319 remakes are kind of half efforts compared to the 757's (comparing the two cardinals planes as well)

Yes, I have to agree that the 757 looks sexy. But, I am very happy that they will continue with the theme planes. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was really sad to see that they were doing away with the 757 theme planes. But, I am beyond happy to see that they will continue to support and make theme planes!

How come they chose to do all the theme planes in the A319's? Why not the A320's or A330's? Oh man, would love to see them paint the A330 in the Arizona colors!

I assume that picture was taken before 826 left for ROW. So that leaves... none (aside from the two heritage planes).

I think the move to A319s was because the 319s can be seen at many more stations than any other aircraft in the fleet.

Nope. Do not like this one either. None of the A319 special schemes work for me even though 2 years later I really like the main US livery. Give me 2 years and I may like some of these.

Is there a reason why they do not paint any of the 320's in specials? Cost is only thing that would come to mind but should not be that much difference.

I don't think cost was that big a factor. The only difference (for painting purposes anyway) between the 319 and 320 is some length. And I'm not really sure that 319s see more of the network. My station, for example, sees multiple 320s but no 319s.
I do know that overall, the US 319 fleet is newer than the 320 fleet. We have some pretty damn old A320s flying around...some of the oldest still in the air.

Friends who work for US Airways tell me today that N915AW is in the paint shop and is stripped of her paint as we speak. N901AW is not scheduled to go to the paint shop til August!!

Does Anyone know if the "Teamwork Coast To Coast" theme will be reintroduced on an A319 or will they do away with the scheme.

I really liked that plane and hopefully they will bring it back.

I really liked that one, too! I think it's an awesome concept as well. Especially today, with the merged US Airways/America West, it would be an important symbolic indicator of the two sides, formerly competitors, now working together as one big team.

Then they'd better choose an aircraft that can fly between systems(East V. West). But that won't be able to happen until the certificates are merged.

I have a question. Are US and WN actually paid something by the Nevada government to sport that special livery?
Otherwise why would they do it? to promoe some base ?

Is US carrying on the HP tradition of naming the state flag jets after a city in those states? City of _____ made great names, IMHO.

Since this has turned into a sort of Polls and Preference thread, I have to vote for the WN design. I was an employee of WN at the time this plane was delivered to us. It was a HUGE party near LAS in a hangar. I was still a new WN employee and was BLOWN AWAY by the spectacle this party was! Live band, intelligent lighting, and balloons EVERYWHERE. They slid open the hanger doors to reveal Nevada One. Herb broke a bottle of champagne over her, then they took off for Dallas. After waiting for all the JANET aircraft to depart, they were able to do a very low gear-up fly-by then shot up like a rocket over the mountains. It was a gorgeous site. The blue of the fuselage and the sunset tail mixing with the desert sky was incredible.

Wow, so I guess it's getting a sentimental vote from me! Anyone know if the tail will be painted Canyon Blue or will it remain Desert Sky?

By the way, US has a nice tail! Just not crazy about the entire white body.
