Awful. It may look nice on some planes (T-tails come to mind), but I don't like it on the 757. What's with this half widget on the tail?

Here is my question. I know that when they had the most recent scheme, the winglets on the 757's were to be painted like the tail. Wonder what will be on the winglet now?

This is not a nice paint at all.
If somebody looked at that plane from a distance, they would think 'which airline is that?'. It just doesnt stand out like the previous livery, and its luks dull and faded.

As a former Gold Medallion member, and a long-time fan of the airline, I congratulate Delta and all its employees today!

I am very pleased with the livery. It's simple and recognizable yet reminiscent of the company's past. Those of us here on A.net understand and appreciate the significance of the widget in its newest, more subtle version; I imagine much of the public won't get the tail design but I still think it looks good... and distinctive.

I'm thinking maybe over the coming years, what if the tail design is gradually changed and the widget slowly emerges and becomes more vertical; the fuselage can stay the same. Kind of a dynamic livery-in-motion kind of thing...

Believe it or not, those of you in the young "need-flashing-bright-lights, loud-nasty-sound and must-have-video" generation, there are still lots of us more mellow and laid back (I guess you like to use the term "boring") folks who have no problem with a more conservative and low-key approach to things. I find DL's new livery to be just what I expect from one of the grande dames of the airline industry!

Has anyone noticed that this is the fourth different paint scheme applied to this particular aircraft?

First, it had the classic widget:

Then, it went to the "Deltaflot" scheme:

After a couple of years of that, it was a Song bird:

And, now, it heralds in the new Citgo-esque image:

I thought this one was their best livery.

This new livery is horrible, I don't even want to see these colors anytime soon at OKC.

Where are they going to paint the rest of the fleet?

This is...so far away from what Delta is to me. Delta is not a dull, bland, and common airline, but a vibrant and elegant one, or at least that is what I hope they would have aimed for. The 70s was hard and tough, the interim was more for business travelers, but kept some spirit, the gravy at least looked high-spirited and more world reaching...this looks like an uninspired copy of US. Oh well.

I couldn't have said it better myself. This new livery isn't all that ugly, but it doesn't represent the Delta that so many of us were hoping it would. I also have issues with the all-red widget. The widget has always had blue in it. It just doesn't look right next to the Delta titles in all red.

you guys say what i think too!!

On an actual aircraft it looks much better in my opinion. I'm not sure I like how small the widget got on the forward part of the fuselage, but maybe it'll grow on me.

I suppose that's possible. Just repaint the tail, paint over the old title, repaint the new title, paint the bottom and the cowlings. I hope they don't do that though. It doesn't look very good IMHO.

That's a UK charter/schedule airline's (First Choice Airways) livery, but with a Canadian operator's (SkyService) titles on  Smile I don't believe SkyService actually have their own livery any more - they just have their titles on a number of different liveries based on the tour operator they fly for, and/or who they have leased the aircraft from.

The new Delta livery... The widget on the tail is all wrong, and does indeed make the aircraft look like a Citgo corporate jet.

I think the new widget reminds me of looking straight down from above at the nose of an airliner if you can picture that. The unpainted area would represent the windscreen.

This new livery is one of my favorites Delta has had. It really is a refreshing new look for the new Delta. Although the last one was nice, it is to much of a reminder of the hardest years in Delta's long history. May this livery see much better years than the last one.

HORRIBLE. Good airline BAD choice of a paint scheme. I have to admit it will be cheap to paint their fleet like this but I think the tail would look better with the widget made upright again and like most everyone else is stating on here already get the DELTA alot bigger.

First of all Congtadulations to Delta and all of her hard working employees. I cant wait to get on another Delta Flight and congradulate them in person. The worked Very hard and stuck together to get where they are now.

As for the Livery.

While it isnt bad and I am glad to have a widget of some type on the tail it would have been nice if Delta kept the Red and Blue widget. The widget has been tilted on the tail before. In fact the origional widget was sideways.

I think that they may have been going for the Onward and Upward theme with tilting it to point forward and up.

I can not say it is bad and I do not like it. It seems like it is Low Cost. Meaning that it won't cost the airline much to repaint the aircraft. It can be improved upon and we can be sure that it will be in the future.

I wonder why DL would post a document on their website that basically defends the new livery based on cost considerations of painting and the predicted savings of one day in the paint shop per aircraft?
http://media.delta.com/images/Newbrandfactsheet.pdf
To me, it looks like DL knows the livery is not the best and has to do a prememptive strike on why they decided to go ahead with this cheap paint scheme.

I have to admit I haven't been the biggest fan. I was hoping for some surprise. But nevertheless I saw the local news in ATL today where they covered the event. They had a video of the 757 en route to the runway, and finally taking off. It looked pretty sharp in the bright sunlight. So maybe it will grow on me. What I liked best was the gate and bag claim areas with the rebranding. The ticket jackets also look real sharp. Like it or hate it this is the new direction. I can say that I will miss seeing the distinct ribbon tails.

For those with the technical knowledge of the paintshop, will the conversion from wavy gravy be easy?

Does it just require redo of the tail, new titles and paint the silver under belly white with the blue underbelly "blob"?

Ot will it be a complete redo?

I am actually liking it every time I see it. It looks more modern and business-like, which is something that is very important for an airline like DL. Although the body is white, I think that it looks modern with the body and the tail like that.

Is it possible that planes may be painted quicker if only the tail and titles have to be repainted if it had been painted recently in the flag colors?

I suppose that's possible. Just repaint the tail, paint over the old title, repaint the new title, paint the bottom and the cowlings. I hope they don't do that though. It doesn't look very good IMHO.

i don't find Delta among the client list...

Yes, I noticed the same thing - it may change in the next few days. If you look at the event, they are mentioned by Mr. Grinstein, I believe.

For an airline that went nearly 30 years without a livery change, they have now done it 3 times in 8 years.

wah wah wah, it sucks! wah wah wha i hate it! wah wah wah what were they thinking, its horrid!

People, accept the change and move on. It may not be the best looking thing you've ever seen, but for the love of god, you sound like 3 year olds talking about broccoli or something else that a 3 year old would whine about.

Now, if you could post the reasons why you think the way you do about the change, i.e.:

I don't think that they should have cut the widget off, it seems like a bastardization of the company's history, and the fuselage seems dull and uninspiring, they should do something to liven it up, and the titles are too small, they should have made them bigger to help you identify the airline if you didn't recognize the tail.

... it would make these threads so much easier to read.

In other words, don't say things like it sucks, or i dispise it, if you can't suggest what they could do to fix the scheme, or you can validily state why you don't like the scheme, what about it doesn't appeal to you.

Anyone who may potentially be from DL might be reading these forums, and wanting to know feedback. But if all the posts they can choose from state:"I HATE IT" , "IT SUCKS", "ITS HORRID", its not of any use to the marketers.

Now that I've made that clear, Here is my oppinion about it:

"It''s not the best scheme they could have come up with. Personally, I would combine the fuselage of the Interm scheme with the cheat line with the new tail. I believe that would really settle a lot of complaints about the fact that the fuselage is quite white.

Also, the titles are too small, you can't really read them from any distance, which for brand recognition, is bad. If they just made the titles bigger, that would make a world of difference to me. Just simply fixing the size of the titles to a larger size would really help this scheme a lot in terms of brand recognition."
