Monarch 757 - The Ibiza Dance Club Express! ;-)

Tue May 01, 2007 9:42 am

I think this is Monarch's first ever "logo-jet"...

This summer Monarch will be flying HedKandi customers from the UK to some of Europe's most famous dance clubs on the island on Ibiza and have agreed to have a 757 painted.

I have always thought of Monarch as quite a conservative airline and sems quite a surprise to see a funkyjet like this all painted up. It does look quite cool though!

Wow that looks really cool, big fan of hedkandi, never thought I'd see a hedkandi logojet! Interesting that the aircraft doesn't have Monarch on it at all, although if you follow the flykandi.com link all becomes clear!

Good marketing idea for both hedkandi and Monarch. Now, are they going to ensure it gets the majority of IBZ routes this summer?!

MON operated the 75 to IBZ throughout the summer season last year from MAN, I guess the same will continue this year. MOND is one of the charter configured 757s too.

banghead  Duh! How stupid do I feel now lol

Looking at other photos, someone has said it was only painted like this for a very short time to promote the IBZ route, and is a very rare photo?! Is this correct, or will it operate like this for the full summer season. My guess is the latter, seems like a lot of effort just for a week or so?!

On a side note, looking at other photos of the aircraft in general, it always amazes me how good Monarch 757s look, especially considering their vintage.

Thats ok, I wasn't having a go, just curious. Hedkandi is probably the least chavvy of all dance brands, its far more chilled out, funky music than the hard base and making shapes with glowsticks kind of thing. Hedkandi have tried very hard to position their brand away from the stereotype of dance music, although the the music itself does that on its own. Most of the hedkandi nights I've been to have a strict door policy whereby most of the adidas and burberry brigade wouldn't get a look in! There are always exceptions of course.

I do wonder if this has affetced Monarch's decision to do this, or whether they are just taking the money for the logojet regardless. Would we see a "Happy Hardcore" or "Extreme trance" Monarch aircraft? I doubt it somehow...

Yes Monarch have two separate configs on the 75s - one for scheduled and one for charter. The scheduled config being (219Y) and the charter config being (235Y); however you could be on a charter flight yet still have a sched. configured aircraft, likewise with a sched. flight. When I flew to Catania last year from MAN on a chartered flight I got a 219Y out (G-MOND) and a 235Y coming back (G-MONC). However I didn't find the 219Y that much more spacious than the 235Y.

Someone else might be able to elaborate on the exact 75s which have these configurations, as I think they swap and change them every year.

Cheers

It depends where you sit on this aircraft...

Monarch are offering a number of extra legroom seats on their scheduled service of 31-34inches seat pitch. I think these are located towards the front of the cabin... If your not willing to cough up for one of these seats you will still end up with a 28-29inch seat pitch.

I think the first 10 rows on the scheduled config are premium seats, well not premium but have more legroom. G-MONK is currently a scheduled config for this season. Not sure on the others, there is normally two 219Y aircraft, one based at MAN, one at LTN.

As I stated I was on a charter flight not scheduled (but I was on a sched config a/c), extra legroom seating wasn't offered and I was sat right at the front, seat 3A to be precise. Legroom seemed like the normal 28/29 inches to me.

Just a quick note to say that G-MOND or "Hed Kandi" positioned to MAN today, coincidently operating to Ibiza but not for Monarch but for MyTravel covering a delayed service.

Hi Guys, first post, have lurked for a long time though. MON 757's are now all in the same 235Y config for the summer, with NJ being converted this weekend from its 'round the world' config.

This is the first summer that LTN has had scheduled services to Ibiza and all of a sudden we have three carriers offerig scheduled services to IBZ.

easyJet - 5x Weekly
Monarch - 3/4x Weekly
ThomsonFly - 2/3x Weekly

The Hed Kandi plane is in fact going to act solely as a standby plane which will have crew based from Gatwick, such is their commitment to improving on time performance this year (and quite rightly after their poor showing in the OTP league tables last year!) Because of this you may catch it just about anywhere it is needed.

As RonBurgundy said, all the Monarch 757's will be reconfigured to 235Y for the summer season.

Maybe the recent A321 acquisitions is partly responsible (another reason for Scheduled expansion) for freeing up 757s for charter flights this Summer hence the conversion of all 757s to 235Y config.

And yes the first 10 rows of Scheduled aircraft are extra legroom seats, but I wouldn't class them as Premium considering you get the same service if you was sat in the normal seats.

Their Scheduled performance wasn't too bad, it wasn't great, but wasn't awful. The charter on the other hand... well that was pretty abysmal I'd agree. Would the charter programme take a delay to keep scheduled going smoothly? I think the answer to that is probably obvious, not that they'd ever admit it. Never hurts to have an aircraft sat ready to go though in the event of a problem. Wonder if they'll pick up any subcharters for others as well?!

I've been to Hed Kandi a couple of times at the Ibiza club El Divino, but haven't been back to Hed Kandi in a couple of years. I loved it when it the first few years, but last time I was there I hated it. Too crowded and the women didn't quite look like the drawing on the tail - and that even after a few drinks!!!!

I see Hed Kandi is scheduled again this year at El Divino on its usual day - Saturday, but as a self-proclaimed Ibiza freak, I can think of alot better nights than that one on the White Isle.

That being said, it would be cool to see this jet on the IBZ tarmac this summer!

Ah, a very interesting livery! So HedKandi and Monarch are having a party together this summer! I went to HedKandi last summer in El Divino as well. The music is mostly funky house rather than trance or drums'n'bass and the crowd somewhat more mature than on some of the other places I went to while in Ibiza - then again El Divino positions itself as a more upscale venue. So flying taxi to the club, yes, chavmobile, not quite.

Memories of the Vengabus...

http://www.flightontime.info/scheduled/scheduled.html

ok, maybe not the worst punctuality record for last year, just beating Easyjet and BA (although not the best comparison, especially with their problems at LHR in Dec due to fog). They could do far better though, lagging behind their main competitors Jet2, Bmibaby and flyGlobespan, and not faring well in comparison with other UK/EIRE based LCC's BE and FR.

Like you say, it wouldn't hurt to have an aircraft ready on standby. Monarch actually have an initiative running at the moment called "Every Second Counts" where crew have to be especially aware of their timekeeping during their briefings and when making their way to the aircraft. They have also been trialling a "pit-stop" clean on their turnarounds in the UK for their ZB flights which has proved successful so far. On the week ending 2nd May 07 they recorded 91.5% of departures leaving on time and the previous week 91%! Monarch Airlines and Engineering have been working hard over the winter to get their punctuality stats where they should be. Good luck to 'em!  Smile  Smile  Smile
