Mr. Hunold indicated yesterday during the share-holder meeting in London,that the airline is still actively looking for additional acquisitions....
That would mean after Deutsche DB and LTU there are possible new buy-outs on the horizon. Any qualifed guesses ??

on the German market only HHI and DE is possible, but both are very unlikely. I could think of HG, if Niki Lauda agrees...

He does not have to buy HG ,they own already a 24,9% satake and have a good co-operation.
I rather see them buying abroad (OK -Austria would be abroad but is not very likely ) -even a carrier with wide-bodies..now that they became a long-distance player through LTU.

Airt Berlin should withdraw 733 from service.
Last tuesday I flew BGY-TXL and TXL-BGY. I thought I would have flown A320s or 737-700/800 but.... both flight were operated by 737-300 which look quite old, even if in fact they aren't so old, but they look very old.....

these are the old DI planes and I suppose they will go on flying around for a while

SkyEurope operates 737s, is very strong in Central/Eastern Europe (where AB is weak) and is adding 4 aircraft to its Vienna base this winter (6 aircraft based then). together with AB and Niki they could be a threat to weakening OS in Vienna...
On the other side, York capital is a strong partner/shareholder of SkyEurope and it seems they finally managed to bring SkyEurope into safer waters.

To be honest I would be sad to see SkyEurope go, I love AirBerlin, but they and SkyEurope are two different service level. I do not consider AB a real LCC while SkyEurope gives superb service while still maintaining LCC prices. I love the reliability and German efficiency of AB, but on the other hand I get almost the same on SkyEurope for the fraction of the price, and that lunchbox does not deserve the extra dope they ask for. And the comfort of Sky's pre-seat selection system is unbeatable in the LCC world!

I'd say an interesting target would be Sterling, the (albeit distant) 4th largest LCC in Europe. Sterling are in knee-deep trouble (as always), and could indeed need the support of Air Berlin in the battle with SAS most notably. NB and AB have similar route maps and customer groups (a lot of leisure, but also significant lighter business travel). NB operates various 737's, although I think they've manage to cut it down to 737-700 and -800's now. But as for integration of NB into AB, that's another issue - however, strategically I think it's a decent option for AB. As for the price, they could probably buy NB for close to nothing right now..

An alliance with the Spanish carrier Vueling, could be a great option.
Vueling is one of the most important low-cost airlines in South Europe and a partnership with the Deutsch carrier would be a great option to expand it's destinations.
