LH A330s

Wed May 23, 2007 3:11 am

What routes are they used on? How many do they have? Any future A330 orders?

I see it often here on approach to EWR. I also think JFK and Boston are served with the A330.
I think the A330 has replaced the A340 on most FRA-Eastcoast flights.

ORD to MUC is A330, and is also used on other MUC flights.

LH435 ORD-MUC is now an A346 3-cabin. However, in the past it was often an A333 route.

Not anymore. I believe last Summer the MUC-BOS flight was an A330 but this year it's an A343. FRA are operated with A343 and 744 each.

IAD sees the LH bring in their A333 from MUC (LH 414/415).

During off peak seasons, DEL sometimes sees the A333 as well in lieu of the regular A343 , again from MUC (LH 762/763)

I'm scheduled to fly BOS to MUC late July; right now, the schedule shows a A343, but LH is notorious for changing their minds. As an aside, the return (which is actually FRA to BOS) is scheduled to be a B747; I don't think I've ever seen a B747 on this route in the summer when they run both flights; typically, they use the B747 during the winter when they run only the early flight. Clearly, BOS is a good route for LH.

Just a quick follow-up.

So, this summer LH seems to have scheduled A330 for the earlier BOS-FRA (and return) flight and B747 (and in some cases A340) for the later flight. I didn't do an exhaustive search; just checked the flights I'm on and a couple more before/after them.

Tony

PS LH even had the A346 scheduled for this summer, but they seem to have changed it to B747.

DTW actually sees two A330's daily from LH. Both flights to FRA. One could say DTW is basically an A330 airport for Int. Operations to Europe, except now we have 757's too.

I believe part of the LH A330 fleet are ex-Sabena aircrafts. The only one in the LH fleet with PTV in economy.

When shall we see the PTVs coming online? I believe it was mentioned to be some time in the fall (?).

Currently FRA-JFK has been upgraded to 2xdaily 747-400 while MUC-JFK has been upgraded to 1xdaily A340-300 and A340-600.

In the winter the A330-300 operated FRA-JFK and MUC-JFK.

I've to correct you:

LH400 FRA JFK B744
LH404 FRA JFK B744
LH406 FRA JFK A343

LH410 MUC JFK A346

that means 3x daily FRAJFK and only 1x daily MUCJFK

The 330 go from MUC to CLT as well. MUC-JFK is an A340-600 and MUC-EWR is currently a BBJ. A second daily MUC-EWR will start in winter with A330, while the current MUC-JFK will be downgraded to A330 during the winter months.

LH used to operate a daily 747 to FRA year round until a few years ago when they added MUC. At that time they dropped the 747 in the Summer and that cause huge problems with overbookings because the demand is so high, especially connecting passengers to India. If you were flexible with your schedule on a LH flight from BOS in the Summer you were almost guaranteed an offer for $600 to give up your seat  Smile Looks like this Summer the 747 is back so hopefuly that will solve the lack of capacity that they suffered on this route for the past few years.

sometime CAI get an equipment-change from ABA to 333. Scheduled on this route are the "new" intercontinental versions of their A300-600's with newer and bigger business class. but the business class seat are still old from the old B747's.
