PH, very nice job but you overlooked USAirways Express that has 3 aircraft, CRJ-701 N708PS operated by PSA and ERJ-170-100SU's N828MD and N829MD operated by Republic Airways !

Excellent post, well done!

I flew on 9V-SRE at Christmas time. It was in pretty average shape and in dire need of an update. Its getting quite tired now.

Nice job.

Btw the reason why Spanair have that many is that most of them are SAS aircraft and SAS, which own 95% of Spanair keep switching MD back and forth between them

Lauda Air and Tyorlean didn't really got kicked out but rather merged into Austrian's entity.

ASIANA and LOT's Star livery now gets the "10 years" anniversary logo

Impressive list. An alliance scheme makes airlines look like one company, but it also brings an extra variety in scheme's.

More alliances should think of this. One world has a very nice scheme

I mhave two questions:

1. Why is SIA allowed to keep its original tail?
2. Why was Varig 743 painted in *A livery onoy one day? (its those tpe of expeditures that cause an airline to go bankrupt)

I'm sure UA have had more than just two.

Star Alliance wanted SQ more than SQ wanted Star Alliance. SQ may have negotiated an exception.

personally I like the SIA and the UAL paintscheme most, because of the unique tail (SIA) and the blue engines (UAL).

What a great job! It's always a pleasure to see all the aircraft in the Star Alliance livery. I still remember Mexicana's 757 and Varig's MD-11 with that paintjob!

Cheers

Great job!

I'd like to add that Asiana has a 737-400 (HL7527) painted in the Star Alliance colours, however there aren't any pictures in the database, because of how difficult airliner photography is in Korea.

How about a LH 747-8 SuperJumbo in Star Alliance livery?

Quoting Stylo777 (Reply 13):

I think Star Alliance are foolish to not require that the tails always be painted in the airline's standard livery. It would not only be more interesting, but help to bond the marketing image of the airline as part of the Star Alliance, rather than as something distinct from it.

Several hours in total, but I spread it over some days.

Quoting Amirs (Reply 9):
1. Why is SIA allowed to keep its original tail?

There have been various threads discussing the issue. A number of reasons has been mentioned:
Why SQ Doesn't Paint In Star Livery (by SQ452 May 23 2004 in Civil Aviation)

Quoting Amirs (Reply 9):
2. Why was Varig 743 painted in *A livery onoy one day? (its those tpe of expeditures that cause an airline to go bankrupt)

I couldn't find an explanation - maybe some Brazilian members know the answer? Btw, it was painted on one side only.

Quoting Zvezda (Reply 10):

No, they have had only two. N653UA was the first one painted in 1998, N218UA followed in late 2004.

How do they decide how many aircraft in the fleet need to be painted in the scheme?
Is it on a percentage of fleet?

Just a question Blue1 is also a Star Regional member (as well as Crotia and Adria) but I wasn't able to find one picture of Star logo jet from Blue1. Aren't regional members required to have these?

No, the aircraft on the picture is G-MIDW, now flying for Spanair as EC-KEC.

How come UA and LH has such few aircrafts painted in the star liveries. If my memory works correctly now weren't these two carriers one of the founding airlines, yet they have so few aircrafts to show for it? If its a paint-job to aircraft fleet size ratio then both of these carriers should have more aircrafts painted in Spanairs' fleet. and If any information I have said is incorrect feel free to correct me cuz my mind is not fully awake.

Two questions I'd like to have answered:

1) Why does Singapore not paint their tails?

2) Why are some tails white and others dark?

PH, I can't believe your list of former Star Alliance carriers does not include AN! (1999 - 2001)  Sad
I'm sure many A Netters would agree their livery and service was really good.

Does UA have a 744 painted in *A colors? A buddy of mine said he flew on one last week SFO-NRT but I kinda doubt him. It was a replacement aircraft after an ORD-NRT 744 went tech and diverted to SFO the previous day (Thursday the 24th)

Makes sense to me!

Doesn't seem to make much sense since all the rest of the aircraft are uniform. And if you want variation then why introduce things like certain percentage of your fleet that has to be in the Star Alliance Scheme.

Uniform? I can see definate differences in all the different schemes (and no, I am not talking about the airlines' logo).

Examples:

Adria Airways: Look at the winglets

Air New Zealand: Wingtips

ANA: Engine Color

Austrian: Tail Color, Engine Color, Every Engine Is a Different Color

bmi: Engine Color, Look at the 320

Coratia: Engine Color

SAS: Pretty Noticable, eh.

Singapore: Very Noticable

South African: Winglets

Spanair: Wingtips

United: uhh, Bright Blue Engines

Is there any pictures of the 10th anniversary pictures?

ASIANA's HL7516 (767-300ER) has been repainted to reflect its new logo and the 10th anniversary logo is applied behind the word "Alliance"

LOT 737 also have the extra 10th anniversary logo

I think it should be on Star's website already

Superstitious issue

Don't ever recall Ansett had star livery.

Maybe it wasn't UA's, or maybe he just meant the "new" United Colors.

Very good question, have never heard an explanation yet.

AN has never operated an aircraft in Star cls.
