Central Mexico City To Toluca Airport

Thu Jun 07, 2007 8:29 pm

Is there a bus service from central Mexico City to Toluca Airport? Volaris offers this: http://www.volaris.com.mx/AeropuertoVirtual.aspx. But it seems that that is only available to those flying Volaris. What are the options if you're fly another airline, like Interjet? Is there a standard service available to all or whatever?

Thanks a lot.

Interjet has a bus service like that of Volaris. I don't know if theres a dedicated bus service from one of the bus stations in Mexico City to TLC.

Thanks. Any chance of giving me the barebones of it, e.g. location in MEX, times, price? I can't read that much Spanish and Interjet's website doesn't have an English version.

Thanks a lot.

Also there are independent buses from Toluca that takes you from various points of the city directly to TLC. But I think that the one that Viaggare mentioned are just about right for you.

It certainly looks straightforward getting from downtown Mexico to TLC.

I don't suppose you'd know about a bus from Cuernavaca Airport to either downtown Mexico or to downtown Cuernavaca?

Thanks again.

Try: www.caminante-aeropuerto.com.mx

This is the company that handles transportation for Interjet... but if you are not flying Interjet, they have public service from 3 bus stations to TLC and from Interlomas to TLC!!

Cuernavaca airport is more isolated. Some bus companies that go to Jojutla stop by the airport

Try: www.pullman.com.mx

I think their Lasser brand goes to Mariano Matamoros Airpot from Cuernavaca Casino station.

Where is the World Trade Center in Mexico? I can't seem to locate it. How far is it from the historical area?

Also, is there a bus that runs from CJS to downtown Juarez? I guess there's no buses directly from CJS to downtown El Paso.

Thanks.

Well, just booked TLC-MTY-CJS. Great deal. With Interjet on TLC-MTY and Viva on MTY-CJS.

I was in CJS last weekend, flew IJ TLC-CJS-TLC... Transportation from CJS airport to downtown Juarez is very limited. Either you take a cab, rent a car or walk to the Carretera Panamericana to take a bus (dangerous for a tourist). I always rent a car, because it is cheap (US$42 per day all in). The cab to downtown Juarez is US$20 and the bus should be around US$1.00 but I do not recommend it, since Juarez has some dangerous places and if you end up in one, it will be difficult to get out!! If you want to go to downtown El Paso, take a cab to Cordoba International Bridge or Lerdo Internatioal Bridge and cross it...

Tijuana is a much easier place to fly and cross the border compared to Juarez!!

Thanks for your replies.

What is IJ like? I'll be flying it TLC-MTY. What does it offer? Not offer? Any input based on personal experience would be great.

What is VIV like? I'll be flying it MTY-CJS.

Also, what is MTY terminal like? I'll have 6 or so hours there. Are there any views of the runway/aprons from LANDSIDE within the terminal?

Thanks.  Smile

Just got back from my 5th flight with IJ... The airline is just great, their fleet is made by fairly new A320s with leather seats and good leg room, is a LCC with a higher sense of service, you will find great airline personnel and the 1:15 flight is pleasent. You will get a free non or alcoholic drink and a can of Sabritas (Fritolay) Nutritas. All my flights were on-time (but one MTY-TLC cancelled due fog they sent us on the next flight). The problem I see with IJ and Volaris are not the airlines but the airport... be prepared airport security at TLC is the worst I've ever experienced around the globe! Don't expect to find friendly people at security, be prepared to get your laptop off, to be questioned almost about anything and be careful... don't bring an extra set of batteries in your hand luggage, put them on your check-in luggage, or they will take them off. Same applies to odd stuff, I was once travelling with flower and they made me put it on the x-ray conveyor... funny stuff though.

As for VIV I have never flown with them but many of my relatives have used it and well that's a true LCC, is a RyanAir model based airline (in fact people from RyanAir is working with them) so you will fly a 737-300 in quite good condition, on a true coach configuration and everything onboard has a cost. This also applies for extra luggage. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! You should be checked in 45 minutes prior the departure, by this I mean you should have your boarding pass 45 minutes prior the departure time so taking in count that you will probably find a line, be as soon as you can! Flights are closed 45 minutes before departure, and they are open 2 hours before departure, so I sugest to be in line to check in 2 hours before departure. IF you don't board your plane you will lose the total of your ticket and will need to buy a new one.

Check out their Terms and Conditions

MTY is a great airport you will find it pleasant with good ammenities, like coffee shops, stores, etc. It also has Prodigy Wireless Internet Service and AFAIK you can get access if you have a boingo or AT&T Wireless service too. Get prepared to walk! When you arrive on Interjet you will do it on the terminal A, then you will have to walk thru a tunnel and then get into the main building so you can pick up your luggage. But is still a small place compared to MIA or DFW you will be out in the main building 20 or 25 minutes after landing.

VIV is operating on a different terminal and I honestly don't know if there is a bus/taxi connection between the terminal A and the terminal C, again AFAIK there is none... sooo, if there's no connection, well you will have to exit the main building and walk to the terminal C, be prepared if you do it during from noon to 4 pm, because with our temperatures around 90s will be a good walk. I suggest you to spend some time on the main building and when is about 2:45 minutes before departure walk to the terminal C. At the main building you can't see the runway operations. Unfortunately the "Concorde" restaurant located on the top of it was a great spot, but was closed about 9 months ago, it is a shame. On terminal C once you check-in with Viva, you can see the runways operation and if Visual RWY 11 is in use, you will see the action pretty close.

I hope you find this information useful, and have a great flight!

Best regards,

David

Thanks for your reply and help, David.

Interjet's fares seem to be mid-priced between Viva's and Volaris'. Viva's can be exceedingly cheap by Mexican standards - sometimes less than US$20 one-way including taxes - whereas Volaris' fares are normally expensive or very expensive. Avolar's fares also seem expensive/very expensive.

From my perspective, I hope Viva will at some stage launch more routes from MTY and create more bases in Mexico. I wonder whether VIV will begin MTY-PBC. And I hope, most of all, that it will finally begin flights to/from the U.S.A., and make getting to/from there very cheap indeed - it'll be long overdue.

Will I need a ticket to enter the main terminal at MTY? I'll only have my VIV ticket.

What's happening with VIV's MTY-ZCL service? It's meant to be thrice-weekly. It's in VIV's booking facility on its frontpage, but it is not in its horarios. Is it still going to operate?

Regarding WTC Mexico (aka Hotel de Mexico) an easy way to go there, is taking a southbound Metrobus http://www.metrobus.df.gob.mx/ruta/index.htm to Poliforum station (the map is pretty lousy, the line actually runs in a north-south fashion, Poliforum station can be seen next to one of those ugly green icons) from either Insurgentes (Line 1 Pink) or Chilpancingo (Line 9 dark brown) Metro stations http://www.metro.df.gob.mx/red/index.html . You'll be right there in no time. Be warned that you'll be required to buy a prepaid Metrobus card, this is not the case at the Metro (subway).

You won't miss it, it's pretty tall and it's got a fairly disctintive silhoutte.

The "Zocalo" subway station (Line 2 dark blue) is the very center of the city, within walking distance of the Cathedral, the National Palace and the Templo Mayor ruins and museum. A transfer at "Pino Suarez" station will get you on Line 1 (pink), from there you can go to Insurgentes station and transfer to the Metrobus as mentioned in my previous post. Since there is an-rapid-transit-system route between these two points I would be surprised if it took you more than 1 hour to get to the WTC, however planning more than 1hr would be your best bet, since you never know what could happen and you could loose your transport to TLC.

Well, yes you need a ticket to enter any terminal at MTY. My guess is that if you want to enter the main terminal at MTY with a VIV ticket, well they will kindly send you to the C terminal anyway. But the best thing you can do is to ask. I hope you have fun at my home airport!

Dont fly Avolar, stick with InterJet, i made the mistake of choosing to fly Avolar TIJ-GDL, this friday, and found out i could only take ONE bag of luggage per person as opposed to AM or other Mexican airlines, on top of that they told me if i was not 2hrs early exactly,(im not making this up) i would be denied boarding, that and ive heard nothing on board for free, its a lower class LCC than IJ from my impression, as this is my first time on Avolar im hoping it wont be a disaster, and im not sure if their service is the same to MTY, but its looking like im going to have a flight from hell... about Avolars prices, i found them to be very good from TIJ even to MTY, so i dont know what to say except IJ probably delivers better quality for a similar price.

Have a good trip.  Smile

Volaris hardly ever has any low fares. In comparison to a lot of Viva's fares Volaris' fares are decidedly expensive/very expensive. Likewise Avolar's fares. Interjet's fares are ordinarily in-between Viva's and Volaris'/Avolar's. Of course, exceptions exist. But the only true Mexican low-fares airline is Viva. And they might well have the lowest costs, too.

There is a small van which links every 5 minutes both terminal A and terminal C.

You do not need to have a ticket to get inside the airport, but obviously you need it to check in. VIV printed confirmation of your flights works as ticket.

Yep, you are right their are a low fare airline... and what I'm trying to figure out is how long will last the low fares, with maintenance, labor and other costs increasing some day the "honeymoon" will end.
