QF/JQ to order more 320/330/787/380 series, and maybe some 777s.

I would like to see the roumered AA 787/777/737 order.

I dont think BA or EK will announce anything.

SU is a possibility.

We will find out who the 30 UFO 787-8 are for hopefully.

Kingfisger are likely to order Airbus w/b's.

Hopefully US will announce their 787/A350 decision.

I should also add that I expect some new orders for A330F. I believe that this aircraft is well suited to Emirates.

AA order materializes, but not in the numbers predicted (or maybe the 100 numbers are firm+options).

Boeing will cross 700 orders on the 787, prolly will have 787 order for the 787 by first flight.

As a side note, when are the announcements scheduled? Are they all going to happen Monday or do they spread them out across the week?

My predictions (besides the ones pretty much known) -

- EK orders more 777's (whats a big airshow without big EK announcement)
- More 748F orders and 1 carrier orders 748I
- Massive A350 and 787 orders ( 100-200 for each)
- More A380 orders ( maybe new customer)
- No AA widebody order
- More chinese 787 Orders and maybe 748I order
- US signs A350 order

Airbus books 400-500 orders, though many are not new. Most are for A320 series.

787 adds a true bluechip customer, at least via a commitment, though I don't know which one.

A380 appears in full SQ trim, including VIP tours and photos.

Not to be outdone, EK reveals A380 interior. Otherwise, they would have waited to unveil the new 77W/77L interior until this week...

Let's go out on a limb here:

*A traditional Boeing airline makes an Airbus order.
*Either UA/BA (or another expected 748 carrier) is offered a deal they can't refuse and go for the A380.
In fact, the A380 gets a few healthy orders
*Skybus adds to their outstanding A319 order
*Some airline orders 737-700ERs specifically so that they can do transatlantic flights with them.

(Items marked with a * I predict will happen at some point, but it's fun to predict that they will happen this week)

From Eastern North America to Western Europe, it would be quite easy. Privat Air does it now with BBJs, which is the predecessor to the 737-700ER.

Some are already some doing it. Flyglobespan fly to New York from Knock (Ireland-West Airport) and I'm sure there are a few others. However I dont believe the 737 (or A320) is the ideal l/h plane.

Here's my predictions.

A given:
-Firming up of Qatar Airways A350XWB order.
-US Airways will order 60 A321s, 20 A350XWBs, and will reconfirm 10 A330-200s previously on the books.
-Another order or two for the 747-8I (possibly a 20-plane order from Emirates).

Highly likely:
-AA will order 787s (about 50) and additional 737s (IMO, that 62-plane unannounced order for 737-900ERs screAAms AA).
-Delta will order additional (5-10) 777-200LRs and a few (5 or so) 777-300ERs, and maybe a few 787s.
-Air France/KLM orders 787s.

My wild card predictions:
-United announces A350XWB/A380 order, with a few A330-200s for the interim.
-NWA orders 777-300ERs.
-The long-awaited Emirates order for either the A350XWB or 787.

Hi Zvez... do you mean additional A350s or simply firming up their long-standing LOI?

--------------------------------

My wild and baseless predictions:
- No announcements from AA / DL / UA (they're not really in position to order aircraft yet)
- No wide-body announcements from LH or BA and, if they DO, it'll go A380 (top-up for LH, new for BA) / A350.
- US Airways is outted as the UFO customer for both the 30 787's and the 60-odd 739's on Boeing's order book.
- Emirates will order more 77W and 330s
- Air France / KLM will order 748Fs / 787s / 320s
- Korean will exercise options on 787s
- Boeing will ink several 777 deals (freighters / passengers) and will announce 1000th 777 sold at the show!
- (drum roll please...) Qatar will pen an agreement to buy 80 A350XWBs, and some number of "interim" A330s.

Im not expecting SQ to firm up their A350 order. They indicated it wont happen before the specs are firmed up more.

I do expect some fresh A350XWB orders (nothing massive, bar Air Berlin / LTU) and the confirmation from several 'old' A350 customers that they will be converted [hallelujah!]

I also think we will see some A330F, 777F & 748F orders. I remain coy about the chances of seeing a new 748i order.

There is "firm" and there is "firm".  Smile

Seriously, Gallois has guaranteed the A350 models will meet certain performance targets. However, the engineers still have to continue to develop the plane until it can actually meet (and/or exceed) those targets, and that is not expected to be completed until October of 2008.

In any case they will have to wait - A350 or 787 - until 2013 or 2014. That in mind, an interim deal may be important if they are looking for shorter delivery times.

Then why did Gallois get his panties in a knot when Boeing's CEO said the A350 wasn't yet firmed up? Isn't that now fact (in light of them completing the spec by October 2008)?

There's a lot of speculation over B739s for US. Personally, I can't see it. They'd be cutting their own throats if they use these aircraft to replace B752s. Even more so if they ever fly any cargo in the belly. There is only one aircraft that is close to being a viable and capable B752 replacement in the US trans-con market and that is the A321.

State your case sir.

Here's mine. A321 has cargo capacity closer to the B752. B739 can't take containers in the hold.
B739 is load restricted due to having too many seats for the number and configuration of its emergency exits. It is limited to the same pax load as the B738. A321 has no such problems and can carry 45 more pax than B739 if required with a 200nm greater range (Very important for trans-con).

I don't see US ordering the B739 at Paris but stranger things have happened.

A321 has no such problems and can carry 45 more pax than B739 if required with a 200nm greater range (Very important for trans-con).

Does this apply to the 739ER, or the plain 739? I believe that for the 739ER, Boeings advertised range and advertised payload do not work in synergy, ie airlines can only benefit from one or the other.

The A321s advantage is quoted against the B739ERs published figures. I assume as with most airliners there will have to be a range/payload tradeoff as max pax + max fuel usually always come out higher than MTOW.

IMO the B739 is a bit of a pointless aircraft. It doesn't make economic sense to me and I doubt it will make as much sense in US Airways fleet as the A321 does.

Airbus will preen. Boeing will preen. Leahy will say something stupid. Carson will roll his eyes. Randy the former will have a quote in a news paper somewhere. Airbus will come out ahead on orders. Airbus fans will preen, Boeing fans will fume. Both will forget that this is exactly what happens every year.

Big 787 orders from ILFC and a American carrier.
Big 350 orders from carriers that already had money (and hence deep discounts) on A350s. One new customer who didn't previously commit to the platform.
A token A380 order (2-4 frames).
A token 748 order, probably from a cargo line.
Boeing hinting like mad that both Y1 and Y3 are around the corner.
Lots more interest in the 739ER in a post Bermuda II environment.

I am adamant that something Will be said regards the 737 replacement (likewise the A320 replacement), however I still believe that this Y3 thing is not imminent. The aircraft that it replaces has not even reached design freeze yet!

I was talking about the 739ER......not the 739.

You cannot compare the 752 vs. 321. The 752 exceeds the performance and ops than the 321. I'm too lazy to provide a source but I can say that this has been beat to death in other threads in the past years...

B739 can't take containers in the hold.

Neither do the 752's, IIRC.

But its the same case with the 739ER. Otherwise there would never had been a need to develop the 757 as a 727 replacement, as we would have seen a 737-400ER.

It seems as if many major carriers (SQ, US BA, the list can go on) are putting up camp in Boeing's camp, while Airbus is relying on startup carriers, nonmajor carriers and a stagnat list of A only carriers that rely on 320's. 19's and 18's. Am I right to think this or are my thought process off base. Finally, what new routes can we expect with some of these orders?

B739 is load restricted due to having too many seats for the number and configuration of its emergency exits. It is limited to the same pax load as the B738. A321 has no such problems and can carry 45 more pax than B739 if required with a 200nm greater range (Very important for trans-con).

There is some debate on whether or not the A321 can consistently fly transcon missions with the new ~170 seat config:

AS used to fly the 737-900 (non-ER) with ~170 pax between SEA and MIA (2700+ nm) with no issue, so one would think the 737-900ER's improved performance would make transcon missions from PHL and CLT a cakewalk.

US, DL, AA, WN, NW or CO. If I wanted to be more specific I would have been  Wink. I still don't think that there is a snowball's change in hell that Boeing will be able to match Airbus on the A350 contest at US.

A380 - Token from a A380 program point of view. Just enough for Airbus to pretend like that A380 has some sort of momentum.

I said they would talk about it, if for no other reason then to stall out A350 sales discussions. The ultimate timing will have to do on if the A350 manages to get any sales momentum.

Quote:
June 18 (Bloomberg) -- US Airways Group Inc. plans to order at least 90 Airbus SAS aircraft valued at more than $10.7 billion to replace planes and add long-range jets, a person with direct knowledge of the sale said.

US Airways will purchase about 60 single-aisle Airbus A320 aircraft, eight wide-body A330s and 22 long-range A350 XWB jets, said the person, who asked not to be identified before today's announcement at the Paris air show. US Airways, the seventh- largest U.S. carrier, chose the Airbus planes over Boeing Co.'s 737 and 787 Dreamliner models after months of negotiations.
