AA 1730 - ORD-DCA - 6/21

Could I impose upon someone with access to said information to look up the load for AA 1730 from ORD to DCA on Thursday?

I'm confirmed on AA 644 later that day, but given that its the last flight of the night to DCA from ORD and AA and the fact that the weather, according to the Weather Channel, a bit iffy, I'd like to try and slip out a little earlier. I only have a short period of time for my excursion to DCA and I want to make the most of it!

You can do that yourself at aa.com 810 has 5 in coach, 1262, & 1730 are sold out in coach.

Yeah...I did that, but I wasn't sure whether or not that was an accurate representation of the actual loads.

Yeah. Its real time. What does everbody think about the new price and schedule option? I think aa.com needs an interactive travel map.

See above.

They are only selling 4 first class seats for your flight, so Y is totally sold out on 1730. You cannot discern this information from the seat maps, however.

I often get on earlier flights by going standby. Somehow I almost always make it. Get to ORD early and put yourself on the standby list as soon as the agent appears at the gate. You may be surprised.

I don't know what kind of weather you'll have at ORD Thursday, but the weather should be pretty nice here.

Thanks for the information everyone. I've done standby numerous times before and I've purchased the $25 day off earlier confirmed on UA.

Problem is that I'm traveling with someone as well, so that would mean that the two of us would have to clear the list. In addition, while I think our reservation was originally under one PNR, I believe it got split when he changed his ticket for the return to get back to ORD earlier for a family obligation.

I was just checking into things and knew that if there was a place with people in the know, it would be here.

I normally wouldn't worry at all, but I've noticed that AA 644 has XLD a couple of times as of late (including last night when we had some weather here in Chicago).

The seat map actually plays a big factor of the flight load. If you look at the seat map on aa.com and the seat is unavailable the seat is unavailable at the time. Now that doesn't mean that an individual didn't buy a refundable ticket or has a reservation on hold. This is where over selling seats come into play. AA will sell what ever revenue managment allocates to sell on a partcular flight, but if everyone shows up. You got it.......someone isnt going on that particular flight.

It means just that ... unavailable.

I assume that like most all other airlines, seat are held by AA for check-in and elite FF members ... exit rows, front seats etc.

Very rarely does a seat map on an airlines' website reflect the actual load.

Absolutely. You have to purchase a subscription from a data service on the web if you want to see how the flight is looking without having information to JetNet.

Seat maps are a poor indicator of actual sales with the precision that you were stating earlier. I'm AA PLT and sometimes I buy tickets and don't get assigned seats even though 1/2 the plane is free. Sometimes I buy tickets and dont' get seat assignment and there aren't any open seats, and I can see every seat not assigned on the flight.

For the particular flight, I looked it up in the web service and it was ZERO for all fare buckets in coach, meaning AA is not willing to sell any more seats for it. For certain that is an overbook situation, which you might get lucky and guess from looking at a full seat map, but would have no way to really know.

As to getting to DCA, get to the airport early, and if you walk up to an AA gate going to your destination AND you have no baggage, occasionally the gate agent will put you onto the flight for no fee (despite the "no favors" policy and the change fee policy). This will not always work, but I've done it 75% of the time w/o drama. goodvibes
