That BA 744 to Milwaukee might be your favorite, but I'll bet the people on the plane are no fans of that stop. Several years ago I was on a UA 744 from SFO to ORD and we diverted up the lake to MKE...along with half the commercial aviation world, or so it seemed. We landed at around 5pm or 6pm as I recall, and it was like a clogged chessboard. They put us over in the ANG area parked among KC-135s. We couldn't move until the plane in front of us did. And he couldn't move until the plane in front of him did. You get the idea. It took SIX hours to finally navigate across the runway for more fuel. We and a Lufthansa A340 were parked almost side by side getting fuel at close to midnight. The two of us flew nearly in formation down the lake, getting into ORD long after anyone was around to help. I spent the night on a bench and caught a UA 757 to LGA next morning which connected to a puddle jumper back to Manchester, NH.

Yep, looks like some storms are about to pound ORD again, wouldn't be surprised to see more diversions to MKE.

People complain about ATL getting thunderstorms in the summer and ORD getting blizzards in the winter. Well, at least Atlanta doesn't get both!

There is an Air India 744 from Frankfurt and a UAL 744 from Beijing coming in soon to ORD. Wouldn't be surprised if they send them off to another airport soon!

It looks like alot of the flights inbound to ORD have been held on the ground at their origin. I think they saw this coming and knew to hold the flights, unlike last night.

Looks like a lot aren't even leaving their origin cities, much like Pilotfox said about ORD.

My question is this - why divert so much to MKE? Why not just save it for the big planes and divert others to smaller airports? I say that because I got diverted last month on my way to DFW from HSV, and we ended up spending a few hours in GGG (Longview, TX) - we were the only plane there despite all the DFW diversions.
