Another simply amazing bit of video!
Wow! How I miss the 72! Back when I was a grade school kid, we lived in Arden,
NC about 3 miles from
AVL. At the time, Piedmont flew a mix of 727s and 737-200s into
AVL. For some reason, we always took the early morning
AVL-
CLT flight which always seemed to be a 72.. I used to not be able to sleep the night before I was to fly and it was such a thrilling sight the next morning to be coming down Airport Road, crossing over I-26, and seeing that tail sticking up over the terminal building. It was huge compared to the
AVL terminal in those days (no jetways and a single level).
If I remember correctly, I logged 727 trips on
TW (my first trip on a 72...and I honestly don't remember it...from
PIT-
JFK), Piedmont,
AA, US (shortly after the Piedmont merger in both old Piedmont colors with the USAir logo and the bare metal US colors),
DL, and
UA.
My last flight was in Jan. 2001 on
DL from
ATL-
MCI, I had no clue at the time it would be the last time I was on a 72.
Thanks for the great memories!
