BA Fare Help

Tue Jul 10, 2007 3:42 am

I am looking for flights from Manchester to Orlando via LGW with BA on 13/12/07 to 6/01/08
The flights involved are:

08:25 Manchester Gatwick (London) BA2903
British Airways Economy (Traveller)

11:40 Gatwick (London) Orlando BA2037
British Airways Traveller

6 Jan 18:35 Orlando Gatwick (London) BA2036
British Airways Traveller

08:45 Gatwick (London) Manchester BA2904
British Airways Economy (Traveller

If I do this as a straight through, it comes to £13,231 for 2 Adults and 2 Children (TOTAL FARE)

If i do this as two seperate tickets MAN-LGW and LGW-MCO and return on the same flights then the fare from
MAN - LGW return is £414.80 for 2 Adults and 2 Children
and LGW-MCO is £2222.40 for 2 Adults and 2 Children
TOTAL FARE (£2637.20)

How can their be a £10593.80 difference ???????????

Firstly, to return on the 6th, you have to go via O'Hare, because BA is full that day. Thats why they want soo much for the ticket!

If you go BA MAN-LGW-MCO-LGW-MAN, but return on the 8/01/08, it would cost £2208.80

Sorry, can't make any sense out of your posting. Assuming that quoted numbers are not suppressed for some legal reason, please edit your post to a) use GBP instead of the pound sign, and b) check that the figures are correct.

Assuming that the total price for separate tickets is higher(?) (which cannot be deduced from your post), that would be perfectly normal, as the MAN-LGW and LGW-MCO tickets are technically sold as separate products, and are thus priced accordingly. Connecting flights are sold as another product altogether (which is rather obvious), and are therefore subject to different pricing criteria.

If the price difference is the other way round, then the above argument still applies, in that different products have different pricing criteria, and sometimes that might make a through ticket more expensive (though that's quite unusual).

Riv'

EDIT: Well, now I can see all the numbers displayed correctly, so I see that the separate tickets are cheaper. A big difference, clearly, but I think my explanation still applies... I suspect that the booking class for a through ticket, and a point-to-point ticket, are different, and will/may have different fares attached, but that doesn't explain a difference of 10k!

I have just exited the BA site and was offered 2 adult and 2 child return tickets for:

BA2036 MCO-LGW 6/1/08

I would look for another airline. Although i find BA's service good, it is pricey. Could you try airtours?

Hi
I have just tried again and it has come out as the same as you. Theres no way I can prove it but it did offer me a 13000GBP fare on those selected flights. I can assume it is a computer hicup but I will never know now.

BA.com has had a great big almighty fart, no doubt about it.

The fare it offered you was a full J1FL fare MAN-LGW (GBP308.00) combined with a full Y fare LGW-MCO (GBP3152.00). What is most odd is that even when searching for a flexible economy fare, it will not (or should not) return these options again. The J1FL and Y fares are truly super-dooper full fares that are interlineable on any carrier - when looking for a flexible fare on BA.com, it should only give you 'full' fares that are valid on BA only.

It really was great big hiccup. Very interesting indeed.

Scratch that, I misread the dates. I come up with US$3129 for four people. It connects a bit differently. The problem is that MCO outbound is SOLD OUT those dates and also AA is sold out ORD-MCO and v.v. The fare classes you need aren't there. Amazing deal for four, I think! A travel agent can ticket this for you but you won't find it on the BA website.

Another major advantage is connecting in ORD vs. LGW. Anytime I can avoid my luggage entering the domain of BAA London I'm a *very* happy man. Not to mention that I'm sure int'l arrivals in MAN is much easier than at Gatwick!

Mate - run a search in Kayak.co.uk - I swear by it.

Ive just done it for your specific date and its showing adult fares with AA, DL and US for under £500 - AA is £350.

Duration of flights is probably the same as connecting in LGW and at least you wont have the feeling of 'going back on yourself'. Oh and avoiding LGW or LHR has to be a bonus.

Hope this helps
