Airbus 623
Boeing 616

It doesn't get much closer than that. Of course, value rather than number of orders is what really counts and there is a long time before the year ends.

and six unidentified 787s

Dare I say... CI?

News reports in Taiwan has pointed out that the Taiwanese Transportation Minister attended the 787 ceremony and placed an order for CI for six 787s (Type unidentified). This order is for the replacement of six 343s in CI's fleet.

But then, CI has also refuted the rumor:

Dare I say it, or perhaps one can help me in my ignorance, and for all of the past threads on this topic....when will the US heavyweights (AA/DL, etc.) finally weigh in on the 787's? Why the hold out?

Thanks for the enlightenment!

Then it aint them. Why would an airline place an order, then refute it, then confirm it at a later date?

In a word: cashflow or perhaps profitibility. As soon as they have it, they will order it.

My math puts the value race at about 67% Boeing/37% Airbus

I'd say you weren't that good at maths.  Wink

Kidding aside, how did you calculate that?

Using mid-model range list prices against net orders. (this assumes both manufacturers discount at appox the same rate)

The difference in value vs frames is so great because Boeings net order book so far this year is over 50% wide body vs Airbus net order book which is more like 35% wide body.

Good Stuff! I thought Boeing had already surpassed 700 'firm' orders for the 787. I thought that QF recent order with AB order for 25 put the 787 over 700 firm orders. Am I wrong??

Didn't DL just report a very profitable 2ndQ, after a good 1stQ?

Somehow, I think both DL and AA have some reserved B-787 production slots Boeing is ksecretly keeping for two of it's biggests customers.

What about Qantas' 787 order?

QF is exercising 20 787-9 options. Bringing it total firm on order to 65 787.

Boeing & QF have publicly said they are finalizing the contract. I expect it to be final by the end of august.

http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2007/q3/070706a_nr.html

With this order, they will indeed be above 700 firm order plateau.

At this rate...900 firm orders by EIS?

Just imagine how many orders they would have if they announced a launch for the 787-10. I bet we'd be near 1000 orders.

Those six new 787 orders smell like an airline excising their options. Might bet is CO. Probably would not be DL or AA, they would want to order their planes in bulk.

Or maybe it is DL or AA buying options from another airline with an earlier delivery date.  scratchchin  I don't know if they can even do that either.
