QF New Scheme B763ER 2130Arr SYD ...

Sun Jul 22, 2007 7:02 pm

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would update everyone on the latest news in regards to QF's NEW scheme... VH-OGD which under went a paint job in XRH (Richmond Airbase) is scheduled to arrive 22nd July 07 tonight at SYD ETA2130 heading to domestic Bravo 2... Speculation has floated this will be the 1st B763ER to sport the revised QF scheme

Is this just rumour or is there a serious possibility of a new livery so soon?

Hey AJ...

Are you still at the roo?? It is supposed to be released on the 24th of July...In line with our new cabins, A380 product and domestic services. Also (strong rumour going around) another new destination (apparently Asia- Ill hold my breath) is going to be released.

All employees are invited as FAMOUS John Bolghetti will be speaking and talking about the "NEW" direction of Qantas and its products!

Cheers

Does that only apply to people in Customer Service or front line employees because us people at the backend have actually heard nothing official about it.

All

I watched the Aircraft land at 2222 and to be honest I dont like the new look at all ... the roo is still
there - but its a fat roo ..... bigger and more slouched back with longer legs... the words Spirit of
Australia have also been retained albeit in a different spot .... The new engine logos look good
though ...

I saw it from the roadway at QF jetbase ... there were heaps of cars around so Im sure it was
spotted by other anetters !

OGD did make it to Gate 2 at T3 - before it was swiftly towed to a nearby hangar ...

Last message is not the most complimentary; apparently 'roo looks more like a fat wallaby; Qantas script changed - italicised (backwards) ... 'Strewth !

I guess we'll see in the morning. Hell, it is morning in in the Merry Old Land of Oz!

I am surprised by the reports on the new logo - it sounds horrible and I hope the actual scheme will be better in reality. I would have liked a subtle enhancement of the present iconic appearance, perhaps keeping the existing kangaroo with some 3-D shading to make it a little bolder, extending the red further towards the front of the fuselage in a gradient, and enlarging the font of the word "Qantas". Oh yes, and red engines would have helped too, even if it ran the danger of confusion with Virgin Atlantic.

But it seems we have a fat wallaby with long legs and backwards italic oriental writing instead. Wow! Quite a surprise, and from these reports, not a change for the better!

Prehaps like Ei did with it's new logo.

Although the new shamrock appears all over advertising and on the website and different documents, they still have the old one on it's aircraft, including the four delivered over the last few months.

Just don't put ".com" on the titles. Tacky, tacky, tacky. Most people can figure out how to get to the website without seeing it in ten foot tall letters on the side of the plane.  banghead

Well the difference in the roo is not THAT big. It looks more streamlined and a bit chubbier, but that's it. I'd still like to see the new font though, before judging the livery...

Click my link above, you can see the new roo on the tail but not the rest of the aircraft. I think they could have done a better job than that. It doesn't seem like much of a change at all considering it may be there for at least another 20 years or so.

Hmmm.. not as bad as some people had described it.. But I'm still not really liking it.
It seems a bit too angular and standard logo-ish

I have to say I even liked the AO kangaroo better than this one. QF why did you bother changing this! The old one was timeless but I fear this one could be out of style very quickly due to it's edginess

Very Very Bad Move.... A Disappointment in the very least!

The change to the tail logo is not that impressive, however it is good that the QANTAS "Roo" is still in tact..

All of the hype surrounding this small change reminds me of something John Clark said in The Games (Aussies will get this)...

Whenever a company's in trouble, they launch a new website. It's the perfect conjuring trick - "LOOK OVER HERE. Bright, flashy, shiny things".

Only seen that fuzzy pic of the tail.... Kangaroo looks more like a cartoon character than before.

Without having seen the rest of the aircraft I'd have to agree.... why bother. QF Group had a winner with the Australian Airlines look. Missed a chance to have a 'real' update me says.

Wonder if they ripped out the 'oddball' mid-galley on OGD (also on OGE/F/V) and standardised it with other GE powered 767's?

Not that much of a difference that average Joe will recognise the change, AND way not worth the cost of redoing the fleet for.

Keep in mind that they're also changing a few things toward the front of the airplane. They probably figured they might as well sneak in a slight tweak to the tail logo. Would it make repainting easier since the kangaroo is no longer being "sliced" by the horizontal stabilizer?

A childish version of the kangaroo. its like those logos you see on the kids coloring books, or kids meal packs.

Not impressed.

Current livery is just fine

I also think the white kangaroo silhouette in the red triangle is an icon itself, so many regular passengers won't even notice the change if you ask me.

Um, isn't this the special livery for the Rugby World Cup?

I could have sworn Qantas would be painting one aircraft in a "Wallabies" theme for the event. Just one.

Now ask yourselves. Is that a kangaroo on the new tail, or a Wallaby?

I've always thought wallabies are fatter than kangaroos. and they are smaller. I think its a kangaroo, but mot tourists to oz dont realize that wallabies and kangaroos are 2 different critters. but hey, they both hop and they both live in australia, so its a kanga-wallaby

I wonder if the Christmas antlers will be added to this new logo this year

I think we need to see proper pics.
No-one has mentioned how "skinny" the tail looks on the 767 in question, yet clearly the proportions as seen in the grab from Sunrise are not the real deal (or is the rudder deflected?).
It looks barely any different to the current - seems they've just refined the shape of the roo, and i like that the legs are now clear of the H stab.
No more gold stripe down the leading edge of the red on the tail?

For my 2-cents worth, I think the 'roo with wings looks a tad evil, like Lord of the Rings or something!

Australian Airlines tail logo is the way to go...very modern...very cool...nice sense of history but still extremely distinctive.

Either way, keep it simple and it should be a winner...

I think there's too much history invested in the current red rat tail to go down the path of the AO livery, which was IIRC created primarily to serve the inbound market from Japan (I am not talking about any of Geoff's other plans re using it as a vehicle to lower staff entitlements or pay etc going forward).
I agree that it is attractive, distinctive, even respectful of the heritage of aboriginal Australians, but the QF roo would be instantly recognizable to a far far greater number of people than the AO roo - and the value of that brand recognition is massively greater than a more aesthetically pleasing roo shape  Smile
