Seems were back to that rubbish WX again tonight and diversions have started, so far here's what I've got:
DAL247 N635DL B757-200 ATL-SJO:
Holding for a while, if not headed to LIR.
CO1796 N76505 B737-800 EWR-SJO:
Headed to ???
AA2167 N678AN B757-200 DFW-SJO:
Headed to PTY.
AA2141 N7055A A300-600 MIA-SJO:
Holding waiting for the TSTMS to move out...
Will keep you guys updated.
UPDATE: SJO open again, back to normal, guess it was just one of those bad times!

Weather troubles could become quite often through rainy season in SJO, especially related to restricted visibility due fog, heavy rain and so on.
My limited understanding about diversion decisions and approaching systems, suggest PTY and SAL as heading destinations instead somewhere else even closer such as MGA and LIR. Am I right?
I´ve just noted that LIR has been used as an alternative airport for SJO even considering both limited ground docking and inadequate landing systems.

I still maintain that part of the problem at SJO is the ILS. Why don't they invest more money into a state of the art CAT III ILS/DME (at least a CAT IIIa), and move the old ILS to RW25?
