BA Probes Jets Collision At Airport

Tue Jul 31, 2007 6:29 pm

From http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20...-collision-at-airport-6323e80.html

British Airways is continuing to investigate an incident in which two of its passenger jets collided on the ground.

No-one was hurt when a Washington DC-bound Boeing 777 reversed into the path of an Airbus A321 which had just arrived at Heathrow Airport from Zurich.

hey,

just heard about this on heart 106.2fm - apparently the 777 pushed the a321 back by some ten metres! must have been some collision.

am now a bit bemused as your article says ten feet versus heart's ten metres...

either way, not good.

The article indeed said 10 feet, well, poor planes being mishandled like this.

Sounds like they collided because BA had no ground stands available in order to "save money" ended up costing them though.

Quoting Flyorski (Reply 4):

I'm sure BA would love to have extra stands available at LHR even if it cost more; the simple fact is that there are far too few available with many planes having to park at remote stands and passengers bussed. The fact that their are not suifficient gates makes their utilisation very high and increases the chance of such accidents. It must be remembered that BA is a tenant of BAA just like any other user of LHR; BAA's inability to provide sufficient infrastructure costs all the users dear.
