Manchester Airport was closed for two and a half hours today after a power cut in the early hours.

Flooding at the airport caused a short circuit in electrical cables shortly after 5.30am.

No aircraft were in danger but all lighting, check-in and security departments at the airport lost power.

Forty-eight incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled and power was restored at around 8am.

All three terminals were affected by the power cut and telephones, computer equipment and baggage conveyor belts shut down.

An airport spokesman said: “We had a power failure at around 5.30am today. All the critical systems such as air traffic control run on a separate back-up system and no flights were ever in any danger.

“Power was restored at around 8am today.”

Passengers due to fly today were advised to go to the airport as normal but to expect delays.

Flooding??? O...k... It hardly rained overnight!!! We had power in T2 from about 6 onwards, but a lot of check-in systems were down, ours thankfully wasn't, but trying to navigate through pax in T2 was hellish!!!
