Its not fair, we have the best airline WAAAA  weeping 

Do they think this will help them with their current operations. If anything they are cutting off thier foot to spite the FAA.

Ok now seriously...

If Senator Durbin DID lobby to shut-down the airline then that gets into some very hairy areas.

As someone who's worked for many airlines and has many FAA regulations branded in my brain, EVERY airline has broken rules and has not been caught OR has broken little rules that were punished inadequately.

Long story short on the RegionsAir fiasco: (A very short "rough" story)

In 1996, per SOP and FAA manuals, RegionsAir Check Airman were supposed to go under emergency attitude training in the simulator. Somewhere along the line the airline/FAA/instructors left this out of the training. Many years have gone by and no one ever noticed (neither the FAA, Management, or FlightSafety). Someone last year magically "stumbled" upon this rule and pointed a finger and said to Regions "You are wrong!" and shut them down for one week. This caused many heads to roll and people began snooping at Regions HQ. Some more issues came up (not sure what) when people began reading with a magnifying glass, found some more small things, and shut em down for 180 days


RegionsAir as Corporate Airlines was a great company. Family atmosphere, decent pay per industry average for 19 seaters, and a quick upgrade time. When new management came in the company went to crap. Took on a Mesa attitude of "Lets see how little we can pay our people and how management can make the most." (No offense Mesa people, I was in the boat myself a few years ago). Sad what crappy management can do to a good regional in a years time.

Current operations? I don't think they have any employees left as the last I heard all of them were terminated many months ago. After they had that accident where they lost a J-31 in the trees in IRK where several people were killed when the crew broke the steril cockpit rule below 10,000 ft and lost focus, they tried to cover it up by changing their name from Corporate Airlines to Regions. I could see a name change but I found it strange that it happened very shortly after the crash. The name may have changed but they still had the same crappy management/aircraft/operations, just ask the people in CKB, MGW and PKB how that turned out when Regions showed up.

The test will be simple: does the FAA have the statutory and/or regulatory authority to completely shut down the airline for the check airman violations. According to the article, this is the legal question, and it's either permitted in the regs or it isn't . So if the FAA does have the right, then RegionsAir has no chance. However, if the FAA overstepped their legal limits on what kinds of punishments are permitted, and airline shut-down is not an ennumerated option, then the agency will have to justify why it did so-- and Dick Durbin's intervention won't cut it.

Any aviation lawyers out there know if this is a prescribed penalty for check airman violations? Of course, the article could have it wrong...

If the airline writes their manual and they don't know what is it in, that's is there dang fault and no one elses.

no to stray from the topic, what was is going on with the former Regions routes that Great Lakes were to take over as American Connection rom STL? The FAA awarded some of those routes as EAS, why have they not been re-started?

Because Great Lakes has turned out to be a joke out here in the Midwest. They jerked Illinois around for months regarding the intrastate service. Why anyone thought Great Lakes would be able to operate multiple routes from STL when they could'nt operate ONE from Chicago is beyond me. Durbin drove Regions away, and now we have nothing. Thanks Dick.
