MKE Power Outage
Chicago and Milwaukee media are reporting a power outage at MKE from 1530 to 1800 local today, but details are kind of sketchy. Did it affect operations at all or just make life real miserable for passengers?

From the information we received ... the D concourse at least was more or less "dead in the water" ... TSA had no power, so they had to manually screen pax, and gates were without power, so no computers. I don't recall if jetways were without power or not ... but YX and AL dispatch remained operational on backup power.
I don't think the Midwest Connect operations were disrupted very much, but the mainline side saw some delays as a result of the outage.

I've never been in a terminal when it has lost power...but....
I used to work in radio. The studio complex had power outlets with orange colored outlets and regular (wall color tones...beige) outlets. It was common knowledge that anything plugged into the orange outlets was essential equipment and as such would go to a generator if main power failed.
While I haven't read anything on the MKE incident yet, it amazes me that a major US airport (a hub for YX) doesn't have "orange outlets" so essential hardware and equipment keeps running on generator.

Local Fox Station here has reported that TSA had to manually check all carry on and checked luggage. Jetways were not in operation durning the power outage if I recall correctly. Also ticket agents had to write paper tickets. Few flights were delayed from this outage because it was the afternoon, more planes were arriving than those taking off. Other than the terminal being hot because of no A/C, it could have been a lot worse.

I didn't see this thread last night when I posted mine, but thanks JBo for moving my stuff over.
The entire airport terminal building w/ all 3 concourse out of power.
Not a single airline had use of Jetbridges and yes, the agents were down to writing the old fashion paper tickets. Also to check people in they had to call our outstations to do the computer work.
We saw tons of delays because of the manual screening of bags by TSA. We didn't push anything until we were sure all the bags were out. Also it was fun trying to find passengers, had to scream around the concourse. I don't know why YX would just have a few small blow horns on hand for times that this.
