Quoting EI321 (Thread starter): Just seem am interview with Emirates CEO on Bloomberg. He said that the A380s will indeed have on board showers and will be 'unlike any of our existing aircraft'. |

Quoting Flitemax (Reply 4): Quoting Osprey88 (Reply 2): I can just see a guy taking a 45 minute shower and exhausting all the water on the flight. I highly doubt EK wouldn't check this problem by putting a limit on H2O consumption per shower session. I think 5-7 minutes of reasonable water pressure is Ok no? |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 5): Quoting Osprey88 (Reply 2): I can just see a guy taking a 45 minute shower and exhausting all the water on the flight. There will be a very, very small water tank and the water will be filtered and recycled. |

Quoting EI321 (Reply 7): Correct, and before everybody sharts shouting ''eeeewwwwww'', I suggest we all take a look at how many times the tap water is recycled in major cities before we drink it. |
Quoting Malaysia (Reply 6): Quoting Zvezda (Reply 5): There will be a very, very small water tank and the water will be filtered and recycled. Better really beee recycled, what if someone bleeds from some wound or something.. |
Quoting EI321 (Reply 7): I suggest we all take a look at how many times the tap water is recycled in major cities before we drink it. |
Quoting Poitin (Reply 14): My, my, what a wonderful way to get AIDs. Viruses need to be more than filtered out. Maybe they will use blue water from the toilet instead. yes |

Quoting Agill (Reply 16): HIV isn't that contagious and the virus is quite unstable since it's a RNA virus. The odds of the plane crashing is an infinately bigger risk. |
Quoting BoeingBoy (Reply 13): 480 towels take up quite a bit of room also. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 19): You don't seriously think they'll have showers in Economy Class? Even on a WhaleJet, floor space is valuable. Either there will be one only for First Class or there will be one for First Class and one for Business Class. I suspect First Class only. |

Quoting Rdwelch (Reply 17): What if AF decides to put in bidets? |
Quoting Jacobin777 (Reply 21): NH is planning on putting bidets on their B787's.. |
Quoting Rdwelch (Reply 22): uoting Jacobin777 (Reply 21): NH is planning on putting bidets on their B787's.. Get out!!!!!! Let's hope that Boeing doesn't engineer the blue juice up the wrong line.. ![]() |
Quoting FrancoBlanco (Reply 3): ... translates to late in delivery, useless, uneconomic, short-ranged, terrible fuel consumption, unreliable, unmodern, basic interior, generally speaking a huge waste of money. No, you didn't just read that. And before the Airbus lovers pulverize me and the Boeing lovers glorify me; That was a joke!!!!! I love Diamond Aircraft! |
Quoting Jacobin777 (Reply 23): Jacobin777 |
Quoting Jacobin777 (Reply 23): NH is planning on putting bidets on their B787's.. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 18): Also, the UV filter would probably destroy it. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 19): ither there will be one only for First Class or there will be one for First Class and one for Business Class. I suspect First Class only. |
Quoting TKV (Reply 26): We shall not forget that a first class round trip flight between as example LHR and Beijing costs today about $ 13,000, (assuming that the luxury EK will cost the same) compared with $ 3,300 Business and $ 1,700 Coach !! The flight time direct is about 11 h non-stop, compared with 14 1/2 via Dubai, plus 1 1/2 hours lay off in Dubai in the most favorable case = 16 hours. (data is from Expedia and the EK website) If I am a F passenger (normally not so young) I would not spent 5 hours more travelling, incl. probably aircraft changes, because of a shower and some more entertainment, not even considering the fact that many prefer to travel in their own country's airline ! |

Quoting Zvezda (Reply 18): It's also a physically large virus. I don't imagine HIV making it through a reverse osmosis filter. Also, the UV filter would probably destroy it. |
Quoting Lightsaber (Reply 27): UV will also kill the bacteria. (Although, I hope they dope in a little chlorine "just to be safe.") |
Quoting TKV (Reply 26): But of course, the A380 could afford, at a cost no doubt, to carry enough fresh water so not to use re-treated one! |
Quoting Lightsaber (Reply 27): For DXB-JFK, a definite plus. I can see this selling seats. |
Quoting ThirteenRight (Reply 1): That'll be fun in turbulence! |
Quoting FrancoBlanco (Reply 3): ... translates to late in delivery, useless, uneconomic, short-ranged, terrible fuel consumption, unreliable, unmodern, basic interior, generally speaking a huge waste of money. Quoting Poitin (Reply 29): HIV is just one of many viruses that can be spread through water |
Quoting Poitin (Reply 29): people can and do ingest water while showering, the water |
Quoting Poitin (Reply 29): if recycled -- must be "fit for human consumption" at least in the USA |
Quoting TKV (Reply 30): Anyway, as said, they really could do it without recirculating. |
Quoting Rdwelch (Reply 20): Agree. Showers for the F PAX on the SIN-JFK route only. Hot/moist towels for the J class folks. Y class gets a wet napkin . |
Quoting Poitin (Reply 29): Otherwise, they will be open to all sorts of law suits from people who "mysteriously" caught something in the shower. |
Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 37): In my opinion it would make more sense to expand the availability of shower facilities in airport lounges (including arrival lounges) where you can take a shower at leisure, and forget about such gimmicks on board aircraft. |
Quoting TKV (Reply 30): If the decision is to fly DXB-JFK with or without shower, you could be right. But if you initiate your trip in Cairo (or Mumbai, or Beijing, see my reply 26) and there are Non Stop flights available, you will not fly to DXB first (no shower ! ) and spent many additional hours travelling, only to be able to shower after taking off from DXB !) |
Quoting Viscount724 (Reply 37): Quoting Poitin (Reply 29): Otherwise, they will be open to all sorts of law suits from people who "mysteriously" caught something in the shower. They may also be sued by passengers who slip and fall and break a few bones in the shower. Slippery showers, soap and the fact that turbulence is hard to predict and can be severe are not a good combination. Even on dry land, bathtubs and showers are one of the most dangerous places for accidents in the home. In my opinion it would make more sense to expand the availability of shower facilities in airport lounges (including arrival lounges) where you can take a shower at leisure, and forget about such gimmicks on board aircraft. |
Quoting Baron95 (Reply 36): if recycled -- must be "fit for human consumption" at least in the USA Incorrect. Many airlines lable the washroom/sink water as "Not Potable - Do Not Drink". That warning is acceptable for tap water, in planes and ships, and I'm reasonably sure it is sufficient for showers as well. |
Quoting Baron95 (Reply 36): Come one people. It is a simple nicety/bonus/bragging rights freebie. Don't you think EK has enough sense to avoid the negative marketing pitfalls of using someone else's runoff to shower an F passenger? |
Quoting Baron95 (Reply 36): Incorrect. Many airlines label the washroom/sink water as "Not Potable - Do Not Drink". That warning is acceptable for tap water, in planes and ships, and I'm reasonably sure it is sufficient for showers as well. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 42): |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 42): 385 lbs on an airliner is a big deal. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 38): That is an interesting suggestion. It's amazing how many otherwise excellent airlines e.g. SQ do not provide lounge and shower access to arriving passengers. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 5): There will be a very, very small water tank and the water will be filtered and recycled. |
Quoting Zvezda (Reply 10): The recycled water in an airliner shower will be a lot purer than bottled or tap water. |
