PPL Or Confrimed Lsit

Thu Aug 30, 2007 2:27 am

Just curious but im a CSA with NW...and was just wondering if other airliners have what we have which is a PPL or Confrimed list in which at check in only a certain number of the seats are realeased (70 %) to be exact and the rest are realeased 30 minutes prior to departure. So which basically means the remaning customers are issued verification cards in which there seat will assignment will be issued by the gate agents. The passengers always seem to think that they are put on "stand-bye" and have big issues with you about how they reserved and confirmed seats etc etc. So basically jsut curious to see what other airlines have.

Yes, DL has this as well.

It's called the "confirmed list" and it means that you are a paying passenger with a confirmed seat on the flight in question but that your seat will be assigned at the gatehouse.

It's an easy way to deal with overbookings--let the gate agents deal with the screaming and shouting and trying to solicit for volunteers for that oh so coveted DBC....

You can also think of it this way (which is how I used to explain it to passengers when I was a CSR)... You have to have a buffer in case a person with disabilities or a family with children check in and you need to shuffle seats closer to departure time. Passengers seemed pretty accepting of that excuse, most of the time.

Exactly.... I'm a gate agent, so when I'm asked as to "why we are on stand-by?" I simply reply with, "Sir/Ma'am, actually you are not on standby, you do have a confirmed seat on this flight. Delta however keeps a certain amount of actual seat assignments under airport control for PAX with disabilities, or family's with children that may need to be seated together." If someone does approach me at the gate, I always try to ask if they do have any preferance as to where they want to sit, and IF I can, I will try to accomodate them as best I can.... just makes em feel happy that someone is willing to go that extra step. I find it makes the PAX much happier.

I don't know about other airlines, but these PAX are called HK's (held confirmed).

I like your way of thinking, but You need to understand here at NW, we are dealing with the "bus crowd" that came from Greyhound and they have all differnt reasons and questions as to "why they dont have a seat yet"

Its funny when they are standing in line to just reconcifm that we have them on the PPL list, and you expalin to them we are working on the seats and we will call there names in a little bit, and when 30 minutes prior to departure comes around and you hear over the PA, all rows to board at this time, then the passengers turn NASTY! and start demanding why, who what, this. etc. Sometimes I wished that NW had general seating and not preassigned seats.
