What about Ocean Air's plans to serve Lagos (Nigeria)? Nothing was heard about their plans recently.

I saw the plane (PR-ONA) arriving MEX yesterday, on time (16:45 LT).

Makes sense OceanAir takes avantage of AV staff and check in counters, etc.

I'm wondering how long before AM goes back to 767 service on this route. Ocean Air will be considerably cheaper than AM, so I expect them to take a big chunck of business away. Will AM be able to fill up a 777 on a daily basis with Ocean Air on the route, and let's not forget GOL from Lima is just around the corner.....

In fact Varig will run it non-stop (762) or thru MAO with 738.

Plans for LIM-MEX flight are suspended.

Next will be LAD as soon as a new 763 become available and ready, probably November/07. LOS probably could begin with the same 763 one or two months after.

In fact, Ocean Air is taken advantage related to other Latin American carriers linking MEX-GRU.
For example, LA, TA and CM are capable to cover such schedule considering layovers in their respectively bases.
On the other side, Ocean Air makes it cheaper and no stops on the way...

IMO there is no high yield market for 2 or 3 non-stop flights without reducing profits (i'm not saying that the flight will become a loss). AM can decide to deploy a 763 but IMO they will keep the 772 because they know it's the best product they have.

Sounds like too much capacity to me. Varig I heard took one B767-200 among the pack of B767-300s just for the MEX route, but now that Ocean has jumped in already maybe Varig will lose out?

Is there really that much traffic to warrant all that capacity?

Does anybody know the range of prices that Ocean Air is charging for a roundtrip MEX-GRU-MEX flight in both coach and business?

OK, Eduardo, what I was able to retrieve from Ocean Air´s website, for a MEX-GRU-MEX, is asflw:

Coach at BRL 2,093.00, equivalent to USD 1059.00 roughly, inclusive of taxes and surcharges.

Biz at BRL 8,362.00, equivalent to USD 4254.00 roughly, inclusive of taxes and surcharges.

Last time I checked AM, it was at around USD 1350.00 for a PVR-MEX-GRU-MEX-PVR in coach, of course.

Ocean Air says the above fares are promos, but to me it looks like there is not too much difference from what Aeromexico would be charging these days. Anyways, it is nice to have a new airline running from Mexico to Brazil.

Once Varig starts operating in the Mexican market, again, things will get additionally interesting.

Best regards

It'll take some months for people to be able to tell what the fares on MEX-GRU will be permanently. The prices will change as these three airlines figure out what they can and can't charge to sustain a profit and compete. Within the first few months, I think their fares will be comparable, but as time goes by, it will come to a point where their prices will separate.

I hope all three make the route work.......saludos

A very wise AM decision would be to keep, which i'm sure they will be doing, the B772 on route. Offer the best... sure the B772 is being very reliable with on time departures and arrivals... what OceanAir and RG once should do is to lower fares... that's the only way they're going to be competitive on route... nothing beats AM B777 IFE system and service.

From what I read from the caption of the two pictures, OceanAir is already flying to Africa? Is that right?

No Ricariza, they just flew to LIS to run some flights to TAAG, but because they need the plane to prepare the MEX flights, they begin some domestic flights in Brazil using the plane in order to give their crews the required experience.

As the flights to MEX uses a plane the entire day, they need a second one in order to begin their African operations.

They have plans to fly at least one weekly frequency to CUN by year's end. Toluca(1X), Guadalajara(1X) and a second CUN frequency are also being considered.

This from Ocean Air's President.

We could see three destinations in Mexico for Ocean Air!

Thanx for sharing PPVRA. I can see them doing CUN 2 times a week, maybe even more by next year's end, but GDL, well I didn't expect that, and I'll be surprise if they launch it.

ps (still waiting on Avianca to announce CUN....).

Wow! CUN... ok.. but TLC and GDL are being mentioned, thats very nice! I too didn't saw that one coming. Also i think TLC's 1X is very few... they should fly minimum 3X. OceanAir should wait for RG to see if they're able to restart flights... if not, rights will be lost and they should apply ASAP for the extra frequencies to MEX!
