A380 In BOG

Mon Sep 03, 2007 7:50 am

Hi all,

Today I rtead in colombian newspaper El Tiempo that Airbus will send one of its A380 to BOG in a couple of weeks. I don't think they'll do any promotional stuff (no real customers around here I guess) and testing is not that easy in this busy airport, but hey, I'm just excited if this info id true at all.

Any details on this anyone??

Well "El Tiempo" is the biggest and more respectable newspaper in the country, but these news appeared on the "gossip" part of the edition, so who knows what the source is. In this case I have to see it to believe it, because I don't see a reason for that trip...

Does any airline plan to operate BOG with the 380 in order to justify that flight?

For hot and high tests, Bogota is ideal.

Bogota is actually not that "hot". Never gets that hot any time of year.

But the combination of 20+ degrees centigrade, plus over 8000 ft does make it a candidate for "hot and high" tests. As it happens they were carried out in in the Colombian city of Medellin, that has silmilar conditions, but much less traffic, for the RR powered A380 and Addis Ababa for the Engine Alliance engined version.

I am very interested to see what the A380 will be doing in BOG!

Today i'll get confirmation from a friend who knows someone in Airbus. I'll let you know guys if I started another wothless thread or a great chance to see closely the "beast" in BOG.

I know, but they even had accurate info on other topics in the past. They cannot be trustes 100%, but when the noise starts, heads up!!

No, and don't think any will in the short term. I'm pretty sure, if this is true, this is a small PR stunt for AV and Airbus in thanks for their 60+ order.

Could well be! Airbus also need to make some noise now that the first commercial flight is imminent to show that the delays are a thing of the past and to show off the merits of the giant.

It would also seem that the A380 will visit EZE on the 27th/28th of September, so the BOG visit would be part of a wider tour.

I'll link it to it.
A380 At EZE Sept 27 (by LVHGEL Sep 7 2007 in Civil Aviation)

Gonna be a nice day in BOG, specially from my apartments terrace to see it taking off, hopefully from 13R and then turning right as AF and IB pilots do in their 340s.

I'll look in Airbus site now.

You never know! It might go to UIO too! I mean, in Colombia there is not any more likekelyhood of an order for the A380 than there is in Ecuador. But photos of the "super-jumbo" taking off or landing in UIO would be magnificent.

As I said before, the A380 will be in EZE on 27th/28th Sep. We hear about BOG. We will have to see if it goes elsewhere in the same tour.

Oww how do I hope the A380 will make a tech stop in CUR on their way back to Europe or at least fly over CUR so I can at least see it in-flight. Does anyone know when the A380 will leave BOG and if it will go to France immediately or a stop in PTP/FDF like the first time it went to MDE? I would love to know the departure date and time and when it is most likely to pass over CUR.

Saludos,

Don't know for sure, but knowing that knowing that the A380 will be at EZE on 27th/28th Sep, and that BOG is scheduled for the end of Sep, AND that there is is also going to the US, as stated by Airbus:

The US-tour will take the A380 flight-test-aircraft MSN009, powered by four Engine Alliance GP7200 engines, to the United States. The visits are part of the ongoing route proving process for this aircraft/engine-combination. The aircraft, which has no passenger-cabin, is on static display at the following airports:

Connecticut, Bradley International Airport (BDL) -- October 2-3
Kentucky, Cincinnati/N. Kentucky Airport (CVG) -- October 3-4
California, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) -- October 4-5.

Assuming that it is the same plane, we can guess that BOG will be visited on 29th/30th September. Whether it would go straight from there to BDL, or do an intermidiate stop (would MIA want to test A380 compatibility on its new terminal?), take your guesses!

Okay, I wasn't aware that A380 also plans to go to the U.S. So I guess I can kiss my hopes of them flying over CUR goodbye.....

It would begreat to see them come here, but defenitly not coming, they would of warned at least a chance of coming and if not to UIO, to SELT in Latacunga, has a 3.9KM Runway and I mean, they can make it in there and all, but yeah, theyre defenitly not coming here.

Yeah taxiways here are not that wide, but I repeat, they can make it into SELT any time if they would care.

So whats the arrival date for BOG? And departure?

Nothing confirmed as far as I know. The news was in a "rumour" section of a serious newspaper, but it fits in well between EZE and the US.
I would expect it on the 29th/30th Sep, but would wait until it is definitely confirmed before booking tickets!

Ok, I am starting to get frustrated, ti seems 99% im going to BOG with my crew for this and I need to know dates in order to book. Also, I have a last question to people who live in BOG. last time i was there for 12 hours, I was chargred 35 dollars! i think I was ripped off because my dad a few weeks later, went to Bogota, and he was there 48 hours and when he was going to pay airport taxes he was told he didnt have to, because he was tehre for less than 3 days or so.

So, now I believe I was ripped off, but whats the deal, Im pretty sure we were ripped off. So whats the real deal, can anyone tell me?

ok , now that is confirm that the A380 is going to BOG , I came out with several questions ?
what gates will the A 380 use ? "I think theres only 2 that would be able to handle the A380 C8 and C7" ?
will the A 380 use the ramp at catam or the one located at front of the international gates ?
wich RWY is the most apropiate for the A380 ?
how long will be at BOG ?

I would be surprised if it parked at the international gates. Catam or a remote stand, even at the cargo area would be my guesses.

13L has weight limitations. I am not sure if the A380 would be coming with ballasts to simulate payload, but in any case, 13R is long, so they should use that one!
But if winds were blowing in the "wrong" directions, it would be great to see the A380 doing a circular approach over the city.

I had heard that it would be a plane that was not configured for passenger seating, but at this moment, I don't even know if it is the same plane that will go to the US. According to another thread, the A380 going to the US is flying directly from Toulouse. If a different one, the date of arrival in BOG is more flexible.

20 April 1998: The Tame was operating on behalf of Air France. It had brought pax from UIO for onward connection to CDG, then returning with pax to UIO who had arrived from Paris. The 727 crashed on the outbound flight, so on departure, not on approach. It was blamed on flight crew error.

there is already a set date and time, allthough I have heard that they are doubting on the time, or it changed, etc. But its this week for sure. And no, is not going to La Paz nor EZE anymore.

I hope the one that comes does have some pax config, and colors.

There is now word from the horse's mouth:
http://www.eads.net/1024/es/pressdb/...20070924_airbus_route_proving.html

The A380 will be in BOG on 26/27th Sep, but it will return on 15th October!
This exercise would take the A380 through 150 hours of flying of route proving under normal operative conditions, that will also include the US, Dubai, Melburne (Australia), Manila and Luzon (Philipines), Vancouver and Osaka as well as it Toulouse base.
