Fun Airline Acronyms

Tue Sep 04, 2007 3:05 am

There was a thread a while back on carriers (like LAN and KLM) whose name is an acronym in some language. This is a less serious version of that thread, for acronyms that management would frown on. So, for DL, we might have

Don't
Ever
Leave
The
Airport

or

Don't
Expect
Luggage
To
Arrive

Neither one is very fair (though they might have been had US bought DL), but they are fun. This weekend, an angry DL Platinum taught me a new one (that seems more apt than the ones above) for EV:

America's
Sorriest
Airline

I'm sure there are more out there, and I'd like to hear them... fire away.

Phillipine Airlines was at one time PAL ( inc) Plane Always Late ( If Not Cancelled)

prior to the birth of Air China/China Eastern/China Southern there was CAAC , the Civil Aviation Administration of China which was often said to stand for Cancel at any cost

and my all time favourite was SAHSA , a Honduran airline , I cannot remember what it really stood for in Spanish but I was told on more than one occassion that it meant "Stay At Home , Stay Alive"

I heard something a little different when ATL was plagued with delays one night and I was sitting at the big leather couches at the end of C (3 years ago). When a passenger heard his flight to Augusta was delayed even further he said something along the lines of, "I don't expect much more from ASA, America's Shittiest Airline."
The proper term is "on final" not "on finals" bud...

An old one from China:

China

Always

or

China

I heard both variations in China during the 1980s when CAAC ruled the Chinese skies.
