9V-SFA With New Livery

Fri Sep 07, 2007 4:25 am

SQ has finally painted it's first 744F in the new livery to match the Pax fleet livery.

http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=668407

I think it looks good, a lot better than the old livery.

They basically made the titles and the golden bird on the tail bigger.

Have to say I'm not a fan of the larger logotype, but I do like the larger stylized bird.

As part of the revised livery, SQ has also started removing the logos from the engines of all its aircraft.

Does anybody know why they have removed the Wow Cargo Alliance titles?

The oversized titles on that cargo 747 look cheap. Like on the A380, the oversized SQ titles are cheap looking. Bad branding move of SQ, totally unnecessary!

I for one actually like the new larger titling. I saw 9V-SFA take off from Runway 20R this morning and boy, did she look lovely.

As for removing the airline logo from the engine nacelles, well, thought they looked pretty nice on the 744, 772, 772ER and 773 cos they were small and looked complementary. But they look hideous on the 773ER, A345 and the A380, far too big and screaming for attention. So I'm kinda indifferent on removing the engine logos.

Okay we made our point but still THOSE NEW BIG STYLED TITLES ARE SCREAMING TOO! SQ isn't an LCC, right?

Haha, I understand what you're getting at. But personal opinion here: If I looked at 2 SQ 777's, one with the original smaller font and the other with the new larger font, I'd have to say that I prefer the look of the larger font. 9V-SYC (B773) and 9V-SQH (772) have already been repainted. Have you seen them yet?

Then why don't you email your complaint to SIA, and see what feed back you get,

there is nothing wrong with it.

I tried that, got reply stating that titles are in proportion, I even put up an argument that SQ does not need this cheap attention seeking look but it didnt seem important to them, looks like the cheapster incharge is satisfied with this, after all most asians do not have great aesthetic sense, otherwise they wouldnt need to hire western agencies to rebrand them.

I'm Asian by the way, so I know what I'm talking about.

Absolutely, it would be better if they just had large Singapore titles minus the airline bit, for cargo it would simply be Singapore Cargo.

Large flag also totally unecessary, big logo is revival of 1970's livery, glad engines logo's and Mega Ark titles going.

I can't beleive people get in such a flap about a livery, which frankly isn't much different to the last one!
The average passenger isn't going to notice bigger titles and a bigger bird!
I can't see anything wrong with it, if an airline feels the need to refresh things a bit, why not? Not really a bad "branding move" in my opinion.

I guess some people lack atesthetic sense and dont care much about things like balance, harmony, proportion etc. which are very important to artistic people, thats why they become designers and people go to them for advice and ideas.

Regarding SQ large titles increasing their size slightly would be good, but not this big, large logo is ok, but with things shrinking it looks a bit outdated and SQ had this style in the 70s, logos on engines look good on some liveries not all, a flag carrier promoting itself with pioneering concepts of luxury does not need unecesary additions to its livery to scream for attention.

Would you say that same about Emirates after they enlarged the font on their aircraft a few years back?

Ok not all flag carriers in EK case its working because of the plain fuselage, also working well for Qatar and Etihad, but not for SQ because of belly paint work, had SQ livery been eurowhite it would have looked much better with large titles.
