Driving Records And Airline Employment

Sun Sep 09, 2007 10:29 am

Hi everyone!

I was wondering how much of a role driving records play in being hired as an airline pilot in the United States. How are things like speeding tickets considered? What happens if someone has more than one ticket? Do the polices differ between regional and major airlines?

They are weighed pretty heavily at regionals. The mentality is that if you cannot control yourself enough to obey they speed limit on the road, then how can you be trusted to obey the F.A.R.'s while in the air?

Well, I'm not concerned with anything like DUI's, just speeding.

Well, hey should really try and look a little harder into that.
All I know is when your marshalling in a CRJ for I don't know let's say MESA, or AIR WISCONSIN or even PSA.

I almost want to jump out of the way they come in fast and then slam the brakes, they act like kids with a new toy.

I have known of an instance where the airline suspended a pilot for getting a second speeding ticket. Corporates generally will not hire these days with any infraction due to being watched more closely by the FAA. Regionals are not even willing to follow up your app. unless you have given what they deem a valid reason for your actions, and this must be volunteered by you not found by them. It all depends on who and where you are though so don't just go on my findings.

Thats OK, thanks for you help. biggrin  Another question: I think that state driving records only go back a certain amount of years. If you are infraction free for long enough, would that still count?

This isn't limited to pilots. It also applies to mechanics and rampers as well. Basically any position on the airport property is subject to driving records, believe it or not. AS strictly does the checks as well as WN.
