US Airways On Parade!

Tue Sep 11, 2007 1:59 am

Well folks, I thought it was time to show off the US Airways fleet now that all the Special color, Retro and Fleet types are represented. Some will notice the lack of the A321 but I didn't want to wait till 2009 to write this post.

I still wish they'd keep some of the old colors planes at the same time as the new colors planes. They fit well together.

One thing is for sure: US keeps it interesting! Even though their standard scheme is very attractive. (Actually, I have to say: all the majors have attractive schemes now.)

The US, "NFL Collection" beautiful done.Fantastic to look at.I hope they might expand out to all NFL cities.I wonder if the special editions are increasing passenger revenue and interest to pay for themselves.Being a PSA partial,I might hope that US will introduce a pink retro PSA,but with a open smile. But bravo to the artist(s)! Nice treat.

Anyone have any ideas why when they did their retro liveries series they didn't do one in the old silver, blue and red colors? Only reason I could think of was that when they changed names their major reason was to try to get away from that image. They have every airline that made USAir covered, but nothing representing USAir before they turned into US Airways. Just something to think about. It'd be nice to see something reminiscent of the old days when you'd be blinded by the glare off of all the silver metal when you were flying in and out of PIT  Cool

I agree about the silver USAir scheme.......it would look good on an A319.

Also, will US be keeping one A319 in the current Blue scheme once the whole fleet is painted in the new livery?

What would be even better would be a USAir retrojet in USAir's first scheme, the three tone red scheme that was first used by Allegheney.

I don't think you can have bare-metal A319s because the way Airbus puts the planes together is different from how Boeing does. Can anyone confirm?

DLX is correct, you can't do bare metal on Airbus aircraft due to the bonded primer they use. The AA A300s are the only exception to this. This is also why the Piedmont Special and the Allegheny Special have their underbellies painted grey instead of bare metal like the original liveries.

I don't think the old USAir schemes would look very good on a grey background, or even silver paint.

Great work putting this together. US has the nicest livery in the US by far. Havnet seen the SF3 before in the NC. Looks great.

US still has at least one Beech1900 with that old scheme. I saw it a couple months ago when my girlfriend and I flew into PIT on WN. It was gate A25 as we rounded the concourse to gate A5. It would be neat to see an A319 in that scheme though!

They should do a retro US Air scheme. The one with the orange and red logo before the chrome livery. Those both would look nice blended in with the new ones.

Are the 757's now in the new US or Star Alliance colors? I thought I saw Nevada flying the other week?

Great thread! The title reminds me somewhat of a longtime TV show that aired in PHX during the 70s and 80s called "Pet's On Parade". It immediately followed the famed Arizona pastime show "Wallace and Ladmo".

It hasn't been repainted just yet, US had too many broken 757's this summer season to send any to the paint shop.

It's not too bad, IMO. The F-28s were grey when they got the silver, red & blue US scheme.

Rather than spending $$$ on painting planes in every scheme under the sun, perhaps US Airways should focus on its operational issues. It ranks at the bottom of the industry in on time performance. US Airways has improved remarkably since the merger (I was pleasantly surprised on recent JFK-LAS, LAS-EWR segments I flew with them) but they have a very long way to go.

As has been pointed out about 100 times on Anet, aircraft painting is part of normal maintenance and does not create any incrementally material costs or disruption.

Also, by using these aircraft as marketing tools, they are able to hopefully differientiate themselves in a crowded marketplace which in turn allows them to attract more customers, make more income, and use that to improve customer service (like the 10% increase in agents that US committed too last spring).

It's all related.

I was disappointed not to see this color scheme:

It'd look solid on a 733, and historically appropriate. That's the US livery that I think of first.

I think though, to comment on the OP, the blue, red and gray scheme is not so much a retro livery, but just not repainted yet.

Yup Nevada has been painted and the Arizona plane is the only one left flying. I heard it is supposed to be painted sometime this month or the next. I havent seen it the last week or so. It could possibly be getting painted right now.

I want to see a Diamondbacks special scheme plane. Now that they have new colors it would be a good time. They are big sponsors and had one in the past so I am surprised they havent. (Maybe after they win the world series this year, I hope)

I was wondering when the A321s were going to get repainted. Thanks for the 'heads-up'.

IIRC, with the exception of N109UW (the first plane to bear the new US scheme); all the n/c A320s are HP birds (which presently have a small The Flight is Operated by America West Airlines decal mounted near main entry door). I have yet to see any more US-East A320s that have been repainted.

Quoting Adam T. (Reply 7):

Many of us over at PHL started speculating that while there was one 767 (N648US/N248AY) that still bore the o/c long after the other 767s were repainted. Needless to say, that specualtion was tossed when that bird was repainted a few months ago.

I have only seen Arizona lately so I wouldn't be surprised that Nevada was painted.
