I've heard mention of SK having gone for some odd options on the Q400s and that these differences in the aircraft has led in some way to the low dispatch reliability of the SK Q400s.
Now I read in another topic on the crash either at Aalborg or Vilnius that one of the differences in the SAS aircraft is the fact that SK went for two seperate electrical systems, one for DC and one for AC, which is partly to blame for the mx issues.
What other differences did SK go for over other Q400 operators, and are some of these differences the primary cause to the problems SK have, in other words, did they bring this upon themself? Are any of the other aircraft SK operates fitted out with non-standard equipement you wouldn't find at other operators?

I think everyone has the problems with the Dash 8. Horizon has grounded about 3/4s of their fleet. I think every airline on the planet with Dash 8s is taking a good long look at the aircraft and transport Canada has issued a MD for the fleet of Dash 8-400Qs.

Flybe had an incident with one of their Q400 this week too

SAS has a DC electrical system on their Q400, while everyone else has AC (or the opposite)

Its not like they delivered them to SK, and then turned around and said, oh by the way expect crashes and warning lights blinking all the time from now on.

The inspections are mandatory. That does not mean "everyone has the problems".

How can the Q400 landing gear problems be considered "widespread" when, as far as I know, the two recent SK incidents are the only cases of landing gear problems? I believe certain Q400 operators have had other maintenance issues but unrelated to the landing gear.

Very wrong.
There has been a retracted landinggear landing in Japan too.
Besides from that, a lot of the emrgency/safety landings with the SK Q400's has been realted to nosewheel steering, which in my opinion atleast, is landing gear issues.

You should clarify that. The problem you quote in Japan was with landing gear doors, and not the gear itself.
