Hey Herman thanks for the heads up on this blog.

I used to live in Mn and I worked for Republic on the ramp in Minni until the Red Tailed bully bought us out.

The Duck was a very good airline that was loved by many and still missed to this day.

I'm still waiting for NW to paint a 757 in North Central colors complete with Herman on the tail.
Am I holding my breath too long?

Wouldn't that be wonderful !
I have great memories of flying Herman with my younger brother when we were kids, travelling from Minneapolis to Columbus to visit grandparents in the summertime.

Better than a 757 would be a DC-9 (for obvious reasons) or an Airbus 319/320 in the liveries of North Central, Southern Airways, Hughes Airwest, Air West, West Coast, Bonanza, Republic Airlines (with Herman and without Herman), and Northwest Orient...much like what USAirways has done with their retro-jets. A real nod to the past!

there are still alot of NC DC-9's in the NW fleet to this day. here are a couple:

also....for those interested, Planemasters has one of their C208's painted up with Herman on the tail. see here:

from my hometown airport CLE, you could only fly NC to DTW, but they had seemingly dozens of flights a day so there always seemed to be a NC plane or 2 at the gates.

Not a 757, but here's what an A320 would look like- I think a 75' would look even better.

I would love to see a 757 with winglets, and have Herman painted on the winglets. Alright I'm going to hold my breath now too. C'mon NWA help a brother out!! Stephen Wolf is gone so its O.K. to let Herman fly again.

Yeah I agree but NWA doesn't have any class so don't count on it.

I'm too young to remember NC (or even Republic, for that matter). I guess these days SY sort of fills the role of the much more likable local airline with a greater appreciation of where it's from, except that NC was all about short-haul while SY is smaller and focuses on the leisure flights. But I do suppose it's my generation's equivalent of NC at least as far as being NW's better alternative goes.

Those 580s were so comfortable - roomy seats and big windows. I truly miss 'em.

I attribute my love of aviation to a North Central CV-580 captain...

Back in the 1970's, I found myself at CLE to either pick up or drop off a family member. Back then you could go right to the gate for this. While I was waiting, a NC CV-580 came in from Detroit and unloaded its pax. I stood at the window and watched in amazement as those huge engines came to a stop and everyone got off. After the pax were off, the captain came off and noticed me watching in the window. He invited me onto his plane for an incredible tour! I got to sit in the cockpit, kick the tires, sit in the pax cabin, etc.. Then, as i sat in the cabin pretending to be an airline pax, he offered me a pancake breakfast and sat down across the aisle from me with one of his own!! We sat there, munching on what probably was a bad airline pancake, but it meant the world to me.

To this day, i will never forget that. I never did get his name, or maybe i did and just forgot it over time, but i do credit him with giving me my aviation bug.

Thank you sir!

Given the current management at Northwest, ANYTHING would be nice. Northwest RetroJets - Classy, yes. Nostalgic, yes. Wanted...YES!

Unfortunately, I think so. Remember a little while back the scuttlebutt about that DC3 going on display in a museum (can't remember all the details) that was actually a Wisconsin Central aircraft, and NW demanded that it be painted in NW colors. I honestly think that if NW took some 319s and did some retrojets like US did, they could actually do some good towards smoothing over hard feelings that are still there from the acquisition (don't call it a merger, it wasn't one).

Regardless, thanks for posting this blogspot - my Dad will be thrilled!!
