NW B742 At OAK?

I am looking at Flightaware right now (3:00 PM Pacific Time) and saw a NW flight with a Boeing 747-200 from CLE enroute to OAK. Is this flight a charter of some kind?

hmm I'm suprised it didnt head over to SFO as it did when the Rams played the Raiders. Sidenote that was a 753 not a 742, so a little surprised about oak over sfo.

A 742 is a little over-kill for an NFL charter, so that thing should have no problems getting in and out of OAK since it will be so light.

However it only makes sense to transport the kings of the gridiron, THE BROWNS, with the queen of the skies, the 747!

Sorry, wrong on both counts. OAK longest runway in 10K ft and SFO is 11,870K ft
UA closed their maintenance facility at OAK quite a few years ago.

Actually a lot of times the family of the players is on board the aircraft on these upgrades.

Not really... When the Titans flew Northwest they used a 747 as well.... now they use Delta and its common to see them use two 757's

Yep...we got shots in Cleveland! It was N624US. Man...with the two Atlas 747's last week, the FedEx MD10 diversion, USAF KC10, Volga Dnepr AN-124, the previous NW 747 all within the last couple months, CLE has seen more wide-bodies/heavies than usual this summer! I'm glad we were able to catch them all. I pretty sure Ernest Angley's 747SP P4-FSH was here again this summer too, and undoubtedly there were some that were missed.

I was glad to see it wasn't N623US which was here on August 24th. Shots of it on the ramp being serviced were also taken, but have yet to be uploaded. Here's links to the shots that are up:

No NW doesn't serve Oakland but when you're dealing with a charther situation, you don't have to use an airport that your company already serves.
More then likely they taxied from runway 29 (south field) over to Kaiser Air (north field) and were serviced by them. No crowds, personal and priority service.

Yes, but I worked at OAK back in the mid 80's when World was HQ there. They had some 747's. Also, BA and AF brought Concorde in from time to time as part of a round-the-world tour. Routing on that, I believe, was it came in from JFK then went to HNL.

I was not saying 747s could or are have landed at Oakland. I was answering his question about UNITED. UA closed their maintence base there and UA does not send their 747s there for service.

Not quite... OAK's rwy 29 is 10,000 feet while SFO's rwy 28R is 11,870 and rwy 28L is 10,602 feet. Additionally, UA closed their OAK maintenance facility in the post-9/11 era. They also closed Indy around that time.

No, they may have sent a few SFO employees to oak.

Correct just like the Colts flew into Ellington field instead of HOU or IAH.

It will probably be 2-3 hrs after the game by the time all the equipment and so fourth get to the airport and loaded up.

The Colts are scheduled to fly a 330 to OAK when they play there later this year.

Also to San Diego, but it shows it going into NZY instead of SAN.

The Browns like using the 742 on the long flights as it is more comfortable for the players, plus I believe it is much easier (and perhaps cheaper) than using a 330. For the shorter flights they will most likely use a 753 as they did when they flying to ORD during the preseason.

With 12 minutes to go, Oakland is up 23-17.

At this point, Cleveland has 163 total yards - 88 in the air, 75 on the ground. Oakland, OTOH, has 345 total yards, 179 in the air and 166 on the ground.

Just saw it landing over C Concourse on Saturday, and saw it over by the ExpressJet hangar when I left the airport. It was right in front of quite a few COEX RJ's and CommutAir DH2's. Looked like a momma bird looking over the babies. rotfl
