TG One-way Fares Expensive! Any Ways Around It?

Tue Sep 25, 2007 6:35 pm

I'm looking for a one-way flight between HKG and BKK and been searching for fares. Apparantly Emirates is the only airline who provides an acceptable one-way fare for this route ~ 162 USD ~ 1260 HKD.

However, TG departs at a more convenient time for me, but their fares are just way out of proportion (3133 HKD). Is there any way to get a low one-way fare with TG apart from the last-minute super deal promos on thaiairways.com?
Future flights: CPH-BOS; CPH-SVG; CPH-PVG-HKG-MNL-DVO; CPH-CDG; CPH-NRT; CPH-MIA; CPH-PVG

It seems to me TG offer much better fares via a local travel agent rather than their website or only consolidators such as Expedia.

Try China Airlines

www.china-airlines.com

Dep 1150 Arr 1335

Airbus 330-300

I put in a random date for next week and the fare is 1450HKD one way.

Emirates depart earlier (=more convenient) and is cheaper also.

Would prefer TG (8.45 pm departure)

No good fares on the TG at 20h45 from what I can see - EK are cheapest at 22h15 -from HKD1180.00 + taxes (ca DKK835.00 + taxes)

EK 385 92 WE 26DEC
APT ARR DY DEP DY CLASS/MEAL EQP GRND EFT TTL
HKG 2215 WE JCYWMBKQHLT/- 773 2:44
V/-
BKK 2359 WE 2:44

(I take it EK have traffic rights on this route ?)

Everything is quoted in GBP; and its not that cheap for one-ways.

Thai has A300s which you can't get on Air Asia.

Simply buy an inexpensive/restrictive round-trip fare, and turf the unused return portion. Almost guaranteed to be less expensive than a regular one way Y fare.

No Thai though.

You can very often beat that with ET, KQ, UL, etc. Indeed, the cheapest I've so far found for HKG-BKK one-way including taxes is with KQ - for £62/USD$124.

Unfortunately, none of these are flying the route on Dec 26.

I think I'm gonna try Emirates. Never flown them before.

Very much recommend EK Business for HKD 1910.

Shame the cheaper fares aren't available then. Ah well.

EK is pretty good. HKG-BKK with EK will be operated by a 773. Not my favourite aircraft with EK/EY, but in my view beats the 330.

Have you been to BKK before? If you need any advice or suggestions or whatever just ask. It's very easy and cheap to get a taxi from BKK to central Bangkok.

And it is only £43 more expensive than EK economy (£125 than £82). That's one to remember.

Incidentally, you can get SIN-PEN with SQ in business for £70-odd one-way including tax. And I believe you could if you wished spend most of the day in SQ's lounges in SIN.
