IFE CO's 735s?

Do any of CO's 735s have IFE? I know that some of the 733s do, but I can't remember if I have ever flown on a 735 that had it. My last flight on a CO 735 was IAH-JFK, and while boarding I overheard the FA say that there had been an aircraft change, and as a result, there would be no movie. All CO IAH-JFK flights appear to be 735s, so I know she wasn't implying that we should have been on a 733,73G, 728 or 739.

Nope none, only some 733-300's and all 700,800 and 900's do.

To add to this question, I KNOW that in the mid-90s they had PLANNED on adding monitors in the cieling on a handful of 735s like they do on the 733 for longer routes out of IAH to like S. America and East coast. I'm curious to know, did this happen? Obviously there are none now. I always wondered if they did install on just a few then because that a/c type for most part stayed on short haul routes they were then removed.

Correct, CO is selling 10 of their -500s to Transaero of Russia. Three will leave this year, another 12 in 2008. The remaining 37 airframes are being retrofitted with winglets.

And, for futher information, they have deactivated the IFE on the handful of long-range 733's as well. Sony stopped supporting it.

Makes for a long flight! Movies and audio have been a standard on the mid-cons since AA and CO started it with 707s.

According to CO's Press release, they are negotiating with another airline for the 5 additional 735s. It must not be final yet or did the negotiations fall apart?

The negotiations are a pretty done deal and is possibly with another Russian carrier. We at Co here were told all 15 were to go to Russia somewhere.

There seems to be a total of 25 500's leaving the fleet then because I know we had 62 of them at one time.

10-Transaero, another 15 to other Russian carriers = 25. 25 + the remaining 37 staying in the fleet = 62.

Any CO guys or anybody else know if this correct or have any other info on this?

JFK-IAH-JFK frequently gets a/c sub to a 737-700

That may have bean the case for them being able to see a movie.

the -500 does not have IFE as stated above.

Just out of curiousity, how did you learn that the aircraft was in fact a 735?? Did you ask a pilot or F/A or just look at the cockpit door?? If it was the latter, you HAD to have seen a number in the 600's like 627 or 617. The 300's have the numbers in the 300's.

looked at our tickets online, read the saftey card and the fas said it was a 737-500.

I second that, no IFE on any CO B735's.....how many F/C seats did it have and how long ago was this movie watched? If it had more than 8 F/C seats within the last 18 months or so then again it wasn't a CO -500.

Unless things have changed recently, the CO safety cards are 737-300/500 (shared for both aircraft). You were probably on a -300.

nope, thats how it is- the only CO 737 that has a safety card all to itself is the -700. 737-300/500, 737-700, and then 737-800/900 are the 3 variations of safety cards. Of course whenever the -900ER is introduced, that will be an entirely new safety card because of the extra exit door aft the wing.

Another reason I can tell you, is our 735s are all (key word there: all) manual demos (we read the demo). It does not come in video form.

What about the 11 or so CO 737-300s that have IFE, do they continue to stay in fleet? ARe there dedicated routes that they are used on? Or do they just go on any 733 rotation.

AFAIK, they remain in the fleet, as they are the ones that recently got winglets. wouldn't make sense to put winglets on them, and then get rid of them. no dedicated routes to my knowledge.

I flew one a couple of years back on the IAH-SJC route, and it had IFE. On the return (SJC-IAH), there was no IFE.

Does anyone know how these birds are doing from an economic standpoint. As I understand it, CO is tring to shed the -500s because they are the toughest to make money on. That was one reason CO added the extra row of business class correct? I hope to see these aicraft stick around, I love the short little hot rods! Blasting out of MDW on one of those babies is a blast! I was happy to see CO adding winglets, seems like a good omen.

Not all 737-300 w/IFE have winglets (yet?).

Ok, let me clarify one thing about the 500 and 300....they're basically the same plane...just one is longer than the other...I know, I did base maintenance on both in Houston for 2.5 years. They use the same maint manual,etc. The safety card used on both is the same....at least it used to be. Now as for the F/A that said it was a 500, there are many very intelligent F/A's out there BUT there are many...well... This one may have "thought" they were on a 500 but in fact were on a 300..

The cabin doors and window exits are the same type (733/735). Saves on printing more cards. Redundancy can be a good thing.

IF you want to get real depp into this...The CO 735's did indeed have a form of inflight entertainment back in the 90's. THere was a company that had installed game devices in the back of the headrests and they had controllers that came out of the arm rest like on the 777's. You could play card games shop skymall and stuff like that. But I believe the company went belly up and then they removed them from the seats. Now I know someone can back me up on this and I can't beleive no one mentioned this system yet cause, i know 100 percent that they were installed on the 735, games only no tv programming. You were also able to check terminal layouts.

We had phones, at best on them. No handset in the armrest. The phone was in the middle seat back (one per row) on a retractable cord. You could shop SkyMall, maybe play a game, but it's primary use was a phone.

I can back NJdevilsin03 up....here is what he is refferring to:

It was called Flightlink. It was indeed a full out PTV in the every seat. It offered video games, skymall shopping, flight status and weather. It was operated by a remote control in your arm rest. At the time I do recall it was on the 735s and get this, even on SOME DC-9s CO had flying around. Back then PTVs were unheard of, so to see this, it was pretty impressive. Furthermore, AMerica West adopted them and put them on all their 737-300s. Like Njdevilsin03 suggested, Flightlink went belly up. Leaving all these planes behind with blank PTVs! Even as a few years ago HP still had them, in the fleet, leading to the occasional A.net question, "DOes HP offer PTV for ife now? I just had flight and had screen but it was blank the whole time!" LOL

Now this takes me back a few months so the numbers could be off, but, the 500's had 10 F/C seats, while the conversions were being done to the galley/closet up front (IIRC) they were down to 6 F/C seats, now have 8.

I knew they had something I wasn't making it up thank you deltaflyertoo for helping me prove my case. I would fly the 735 in the 90s from fll-ewr. everytime I would board the plane i'd always do a 180 after that first row of coach to see if the plane had the monitors.
