Typhoon Krosa Hitting Taipei

Sat Oct 06, 2007 7:55 am

I know this is getting common lately, almost to the point of not being postworthy, but another giant typhoon (Krosa) is hitting Taiwan. This time, however, the eyewall should pass quite close to TPE. Anybody have details re: the degree of cancellations at TPE? Its already getting nasty here in Taipei, with sustained winds of over 60mph.

I was on KA489 this morning and I got out. When I got to HK and looked at the departure board, I noticed that all flights from about 11 onwards to Taiwan had been cancelled.

Flying through all the rain and wind was smooth, though. Pilot warned us before take off that we might encounter some bumps, but we didn't.

There are quite a few aircraft here in Hong Kong from the CI and BR fleet as well as CX planes which would normally be on their way to/from TPE sitting on the ground here in Hong Kong. There are even some parked on a taxiway and a China Airlines A330 and a SQ 773 parked at the compass swing bay at HAECO.

Flying over the typhoon was pretty smooth but the eye was pretty huge! They said 100km on the news!!

Wait a second, will this typhoon miss Hong Kong then? I was watching the news here in Japan and saw the winds of the typhoon with maximum winds of 70 meters/second and they were reporting it as being the deadliest typhoon in ages. But will BR and CI be ok parking in Hong Kong? Will this typhoon have any effect on Hong Kong?

Other than maybe some rainfall, the typhoon shouldnt affect Hong Kong. According to the forecasts, after hitting Taiwan it will weaken and turn toward Japan.

Taipei is actually not that close to HKG. The typhoon hit Taipei and is supposed to turn to the northeast straight towards Japan.

I flew through SFO yesterday. United must have canceled a Taiwan flight. People were muttering something about a typhoon.

Any word on it hitting PVG?

I'm not flying there, but the Formula One Grand Prix of China is being held just outside PVG in about 12 hours...

Atleast I got out on BR on Monday, nice sunny day though. No Typhoons in site, just some storm clouds off the eastern part of the island.

Better not have more typhoons in November.

If you need to put more memory in your PC or were planning on buying a laptop; go get it now. If this typhoon really nails Taiwan prices will spike.

Yes of course, my computer is practically handmade by me with Taiwan parts, but I think my 2GB memory is enough for now. Big grin Its one thing I love about Taiwan, the prices are better, the parts work just fine, never broke on me.

As far as I know, PVG flights are not really affected. China Eastern from LAX departed on time today with no words of typhoon affecting the flights. CX and BR and CI flights however are affected and I heard BR already cancelled 3 flights to TPE and CX delaying flights to HKG.
